I love this place. It's been unlike most grocery stores in Boston as I feel that I have access to a whole lot more variety that what I'd see otherwise. It's clean, colorful, has that small market feel yet packed full with lots of items. You enter and there's a good selection of fruit, produce, cheeses from Europe, meats, caviar, fish, and lots more. Plus, they have a legit baked goods section with tasty treats and fantastic bread. The prices are pretty reasonable and I like supporting local business. Their beer selection is also great which I'm surprised they have beers most don't even carry. read more

I have been a loyal customer of Bazaar/Baza supermarkets for over 20 years. Much of my shopping, and that of my neighbors and guests whom I usually invite to join me, happens there because their selection complements what I get from major US chains. For years, any rare issues were resolved quickly and politely. Recently, I bought seven 1-quart containers of freshly cooked soups as part of my purchase. One container of kharcho had almost no meat. This had happened before in another store of that chain (in Newton), and I received a replacement after showing the receipt. This time, the manager was not friendly. When I asked for a replacement or refund, she looked at me and said, "Male, why do you think I will honor your request?" When I mentioned the store's reputation, she laughed in my face. She then claimed I should have come sooner and that she would need to review hours of video footage to verify the cook's mistake -- all for a $5.94 item (after discount). Her attitude was exactly like that of the old Soviet stores: "The customer is always wrong." This is unacceptable. I feel no desire to shop at this location anymore. I have been coming here for the last 18 years. Grew up in this store. They have a lot of good Russian food. Staff are great, all Russian. It seems small from the outside but is huge inside. I usually come here for Eastern-European dairy and deli products (Dadu ice cream + cirok, Kefir, Kielbasa, etc...) and russian candy/snacks. Love their Mors juice, this one is a hit here. Can't go wrong with sushki. The only thing is sometimes the produce, deli meats, and dairy products are not the freshest- just make sure to double check them before eating. They also have a lot of Russian premade dishes available for purchase. Some are okay like the olivee salad & vinaigrette salad, but I have had better meat blini, they are soggy & tasteless. My friend needed to pickup some groceries so we all tagged along. This place looks small, but once you walk in it's bigger than expected. There's a section for fresh vegetables, a few shelves of snacks and a bakery section. I picked up a piece of what I thought was pistachio cake and a toffee candy box. The pistachio cake was not cake like, but more of a macaron texture type. I'm not sure how old it was, but it also tasted like it was dried out and had been sitting there for a while. The toffee candy also has an unexpected texture, but the flavor was sweet and sugary. We also received a 15% discount at checkout, which was a nice way to end our trip. Most of the customers and cashiers were speaking Russian or other Eastern European languages, and my friend who brought me told me how many brands she found here she'd only seen in Romania; I'm pretty confident it's authentic! read more

Such a nice grocery store! I hadn't even heard of Bazaar on Cambridge until I received a Nift for this place. I finally got a chance to visit when we ran out of milk and didn't want to wait until we got groceries from our regular store. Stopped by Bazaar to get "only milk" and left with much more, haha. The produce section was so good. The quality was great - picked up some lovely potatoes first, followed by juicy red tomatoes. Also saw some excellent eggplant, scallions, avocados, etc. and all at great prices too. Finally got in the checkout line to wrap up my grocery visit. Then I noticed they also had fresh figs and added that to my haul too! Great collection of fruits that may not be easily available elsewhere. Overall the experience was great and I was glad to discover a small local grocery store. Looking forward to visiting again. read more

First of all, that bizarre criticism of the Bazaar/Baza family of stores from the position of accusing them of violations of the Russian embargo is unfair. There is no indication they import it from Russia. Most likely, third countries are involved. Our MA stores take their stuff from a NYC warehouse. Don't forget, in the Russian cruise missiles killing the Ukrainian civilians, there are dozens of US-made parts. Second, to my observation, these stores are very brazenly pro-Ukrainian, which manifests itself in many ways. Just look at their posters, video clips, etc. read more

My boyfriend and I went here to just check it out to see what they had and BOY were we surprised. The space looks small from the street but extends far back into the store so it's much bigger than it appears at first. There is a ton of variety and it makes for a fun adventure to get a few new things to try every time. We got fresh chicken liver here which was extremely clean and higher quality in our opinion than the one that we got from formaggio that was almost triple the price and wasn't even fresh ! Also the prices are extremely reasonable and seem to be cheaper than market basket for certain items. We'll def be coming back here often. read more

Bazaar on Cambridge is an awesome grocery store for Eastern European goods. They have a solid bakery, deli, and alcohol sections. There's also plenty of fruit and vegetables. Parking is available at the location, I was able to nab street parking immediately. Next time, I definitely want to sample some of their candy as it's all at a reasonable price! read more

Great store. Everything was extremely fresh, which isn't always the case in stores I've been to. The private parking lot also really helps. All the service was very polite and patient (I was a little nervous given the reviews and past experience). But it was some of the most polite service I've encountered in a Russian store. They were happy to talk to me in Russian but were also nice to my significant other who only spoke English. We tried smoked meats/kielbasa, fresh eggplant salad, pickled herring with onions, pickled herring with veggies, sauerkraut, half sour pickles, pickled tomatoes, seafood salad, , , etc. Everything has been fresh and delicious so far. My first time in the store and was excited to go. I approached the deli counter and asked a recommendation for meat to go into a specific soup I was making. The worker behind the counter was infuriated I wasn't ready to order. She was rude and didn't even know the meat about any of the meat she was selling at the counter. When I was finished with her attitude and told her I will not be purchasing anything she replied "good". I spoke with the manager and was told he will look into it but I assume this isn't the first time she has treated a customer like this. A hidden gem in a suspect location of Allston, but wow, does it deliver on value. Clearly quality, variety and creativity are of the utmost importance here. With hand made dumplings sold by the scoop, isle of cured meats and wrapped cheeses, imported beers, or the mind-blowing bread selection I'm in heaven when I shop here. They actually sell triangle shaped whole grain bread. Triangle! Also, the pastries, cakes and candy that you can buy by the weight are simply delightful to look at, let alone eat. Happiness! It has been what like 8 years and easily several thousand (happily) spent dollars in this place. Truly incapable of leaving this place without $100 worth of groceries in the cart (and they are no Whole Foods, so you have to work to spend that). Pretty much only place I can get good Lithuanian products. My only only only complaint - Yuri does not procure Suktinis Midaus Nektaras (Mead Spirit). Well OK, if store had Vytautas mineral water, I would go nuts too. Also, if you hit the right day (I think it is Wednesday), they get these fresh buns with mushrooms, beef, cabbage. My daughter and my wife go nuts over those, so I end up buying a bunch and freezing some for later consumption. Hope BoC opens other locations in the Western burbs with the same or larger selection. On second thought, that would be very very bad for my wallet. I have zero willpower in that place and my wife knows it. read more

There are some good food items here, but staff are rude.I have in the past enjoyed shopping at Bazaar on Cambridge, but today I got such disrespectful treatment at the deli counter that I will not return. I ordered small quantities of several items I wanted to try. The team member indicated surprise at the small quantities but served me initially. Then I asked her to meet me on the other side of the deli to select smoked fish and salmon eggs. I know her English is limited so I also pointed and showed with my hand that I would go around. She seemed to agree but then ignored me, talked with a second team member and busied herself with other tasks. The second team member served another customer who was waiting at the fish counter before me - fair enough. But when she was done, that second team member ignored me, chatted with a third team member, went to look in a refrigerator and busied herself with various seemingly needless tasks like straightening things out on the display that were already straight. She never acknowledged my presence in any way. The third team member ignored me also. Then new customers arrived at the deli counter and they were served while my young son got cranky and upset and pulled and pushed on me. When all the other customers were gone the three team members got together behind the counter and chatted with each other at length, never acknowledging me as a customer in any way. Finally, I left in anger and I never got what I came to purchase. Regardless of the quantity purchased, I expect good service. The team used to be so nice. Now they are just rude. read more

This place has awesome prices - yes, they also have a unique selection of various things - yes. Up until right now, I was a regular at Bazaar, I went to this store weekly to buy my produce. This store is so close to me, I can even see it from my kitchen, and sad to say, I will never go back. In my attempt at exiting the store, the two back doors were blocked my two elderly Russian woman and their empty carriages. They were blocking the door for several minutes until I said excuse me and tried to make my way out, when I was screamed at by these Russian woman. They said "Yes, please, go home! get out of here! Do you even speak Russian!?! GO HOME LEAVE!!! GET OUT!!" This is absolutely absurd. Yes, this is a Russian market, and I fully respect and understand that, but I am also in America, where I was born, and I do not need to speak Russian to shop here, or SUPPORT this Russian business. I am completely appalled. I was raised, like many other Americans I know, not to judge anyone by their race, language, or appearance, and I've never been bullied in my own country for not being American. This is not ok, I'm personally hurt by this. I also understand this was a customer and not a staff member, but customers represent the store they are shopping at. I hope no one else runs into this nonsense on their Saturday morning shopping in their homeland, but to ensure I don't have a rotten, ignorant woman yelling at me, I will not be back. If you crave eastern European delicacies, this is your go-to spot. Pates, aspics, smoked meats and fish, fish salads, vegetable salads, cheeses, dumplings, soups, all kinds of exotic prepared food... it's all here and all made fresh. Also, fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, baked goods. Most of it is Russian but other nearby cuisines are represented. My 2 favs... cold smoked mackerel and the liver pate. Whenever I bring these as an offering when invited to friends, they demand I bring them again the next time, too. If you happen to be in the area, the $7 lunch is usually quite good... your choice of fresh hot entree and 2 sides. Home cooked meal... you will not be hungry. Takeout only... no tables. This is a delicatessen and you wouldn't want to eat off the floors, but it is clean enough and they do sell a lot of food so I have never had a problem with freshness. The people are nice. Not everyone speaks English but if you are patient and kind, they will be, too. It is not uncommon to be the only English speaker in the store. There is another location on Beacon St, Brookline... much smaller and difficult to park...this location is large with a parking lot. read more

A nice place to get some exotic food, they have tons of selection and ok deli. However I try to avoid that place unless its something I cant find anywhere else in Boston. The customer service is terrible, why on the Earth people would ever hire a cashier who ignores you when you say hi, never says thank you or anything at all?! There is one middle age lady who is incredibly rude and ignorant. I am not the only one who had to face it I guess because many of my friends boycott the store just because of the customer service. Beware when buying perishables here. I bought two packages of cottage cheese here two days ago, one of which was a big blob of mold, and another one was NINE days past the expiration date. I realize that it was my fault for not checking the expiration date and trusting the management to do that for me, but come on, not noticing that your diary products are way past the expiration date is just unacceptable. I tried calling the manager many times to let them know that other packages may contain mold as well, but the manager didn't pick up the phone. I also left a message, but again, nobody returned my call. I live too far away to go back to the store and bring the products back, so it would be nice if they were responsive to customer complaints instead of ignoring them. Also, several months ago I bought some herring here that I also had to throw away because it was already rotten. This place is definitely not good for perishables. read more

A wonderful selection of vege and mushrooms in similar states (as well as fresh and dried. A equally wonderful selection of assorted fruits jams and preserves and jelly. Bread from the eastern block... Lithuanian bread is tasty dense and also doubles as brick should you need to damage the car window of an cheating boyfriend. uhm what else. Candies... European candies of all sorts and the non alcoholic type as well. Perogies, tons of frozen stuff i have no idea what to do with and oh sodas and juices of all sorts. This place is a mini SUPER market. All the interesting stuff is awesome and tasty, you can find uncommon gourmet goodies for stellar prices (porcini mushrooms, poppy seeds for example) I unfortunately don't get here too often, its impossible to shop on the weekend cuz it's packed and turns into a inter dimensional bubble of mother Russia, no one will remember how to speak English on sat and sunday, but on the weekday give it a go if you're a first timer. read more

Excellent source for Eastern European comfort food. Mostly Russian/Ukranian but with a few Polish, Bulgarian, and Georgian items as well. Ridiculously good variety of bread, pastry, and pierogi/vareniki/whatever. Reasonable prices. Fresh fruit and vegetables weren't so great. They stock Polish linden and buckwheat honey, which is the best in the world. I haven't been brave enough to try any of the wine, but there's loads of it. The freezer shelves crammed full of cakes from Kiev Bakery in Brooklyn always make me smile. Please, hipsters, do not ruin that part of Brooklyn. What a wonderful place and time we live in when you can have serious first world problems in a grocery store full of products from ex-soviet states. I love pickled and otherwise preserved herring, but I walked out of Bazaar on Cambridge today without any because the selection was frankly a little overwhelming. Ditto with the rye bread but I was somehow able to force myself to pick one (with coriander seeds--yum!). I was able to buy a few other things, including pickled cherry tomatoes and kefir, but in my compulsion to check everything out I must have looked like a gape-mouthed hick to the regular shoppers there--sorry folks--I tried to stay out of the way! The only thing more ridiculous than the huge smoked fish section at the deli would have to be the prices. Yet another food goldmine in Allston. read more

I recently spent 2 weeks in Russia, so naturally, I wanted some Russian food when I returned. I stopped in this little grocery store today and I was happily surprised! They have smoked fish, sausages, pickled veggies, a great produce section, a cute little bakery, interesting breads, and a great beer/wine section. They even have the Ukrainian Honey Pepper vodka I bought at the airport in Moscow (although it is does cost a bit more)! I was thrilled to find all of the things I was looking for! I left with Blinis, herring, a package of buckwheat, frozen Russian raviolis, a couple of different Russian salads from the deli, a bottle of Kvas, Polish dill pickles, Austrian cheese, homemade Borscht, fresh fruits & veggies, and a couple bottles of Russian beer! :P I was also impressed with the girls who work at the deli. They were more than happy to let me try foods before I bought them, and they didn't mind that I don't speak Russian. And, don't worry about not being able to read the packages. Some customers even helped explain to me what some of the foods are. What a fantastic shopping experience! I will definitely be back! :D read more

Besides Russian and other Eastern European delicacies and obscurities, you can grab the essentials here too(ie, milk , eggs, OJ). You can cross cultures in the pharmacy section as well, check out the Russian greeting cards and various OTC remedies. There's is parking for shoppers as well-but a little hard to find. Bazaar has recently has a little facelift, painting the storefront a cheerful blue background with images of food floating within it. It's a small grocery that specializes in Russian ingredients but also has all the necessities, and more smoked fish than you even knew you ever wanted. Plus they have booze! There is a limited selection of fruits and veggies, but what's there is much cheaper than Shaw's, where it currently costs about $27 to buy three plums and an apple. read more

Excellent alternative to grocery shopping at a big chain - cheaper basics plus a wide assortment of "weird" foods. Take a risk at the deli counter and order something you normally wouldn't - eggplant and tomato salad with sour cream, smoked fish, stuffed mushrooms, borscht ($3.99 for a 2-meal container), Olivier salad (a Russian classic), blini (often filled with apples, cherries, strawberries, blueberries - yum) - and you won't be disappointed. There's a large selection of cheap-ish alcohol, candy, pastries (try creamy Napoleon cake - layers upon layers of flaky puff pastry smothered in buttercream). "Yay! I'm a fan" indeed. read more
