I love this place. It's been unlike most grocery stores in Boston as I feel that I have access to a…read morewhole lot more variety that what I'd see otherwise. It's clean, colorful, has that small market feel yet packed full with lots of items. You enter and there's a good selection of fruit, produce, cheeses from Europe, meats, caviar, fish, and lots more. Plus, they have a legit baked goods section with tasty treats and fantastic bread. The prices are pretty reasonable and I like supporting local business. Their beer selection is also great which I'm surprised they have beers most don't even carry.

For years, any rare issues were resolved quickly and politely. Recently, I bought seven 1-quart containers of freshly cooked soups as part of my purchase. One container of kharcho had almost no meat. This had happened before in another store of that chain (in Newton), and I received a replacement after showing the receipt. This time, the manager was not friendly. When I asked for a replacement or refund, she looked at me and said, "Male, why do you think I will honor your request?" When I mentioned the store's reputation, she laughed in my face. She then claimed I should have come sooner and that she would need to review hours of video footage to verify the cook's mistake -- all for a $5.94 item (after discount). Her attitude was exactly like that of the old Soviet stores: "The customer is always wrong." This is unacceptable. I feel no desire to shop at this location anymore. I prefer places that care about their reputation.

There's so many options when it comes to food, hot food or quick food! My favorite are the hand-rolls, ranges from $4-$8, and the strawberry matcha latte, perfect flavor and sweetness. The onigiris in the fridge are fantastic, as low as $2 and is amazing to eat later, but there are fresh made ones for about $4 each. They also have the infamous egg sandos, for quick grabs! I need to try the curry katsu next time because I see so many people ordering those. Sometimes they have food demonstrations from Japan and they are always so nice! It's fun in here, but finding a seat could be difficult during lunch hour, but people tend to come and go, so it's worth the wait.

I also got the iced plum tea and it was refreshing with a kick of cinnamon and tart fruit flavors, but not too sweet. One of the better iced teas I've had. The line to order was long but moved quickly, and there is one seating area with typical tables and chairs as well as one where you remove your shoes and sit on the floor. The drinks took a while to come out, simply because there were so many orders, but overall was a great and delicious experience!
