So I stand at a crossroads on what to think of this take out food. It wasn't bad. Yet it wasn't outstanding. I liked the egg drop soup, but the wonton soup was very salty. I asked for steamed wontons and they were really good! The chicken chow mein was good but I would have liked to have some cooked celery in it. Absolutely unacceptable customer service. I had a terrible experience at this restaurant today. My order was completely wrong, and instead of showing basic professionalism and fixing it, the woman at the front (owner or manager, I believe) accused me of lying and then yelled at me in front of other customers. She didn't try to understand or resolve the situation, she went off on me like I had done something wrong for simply expecting the food I requested. She actually called me a liar. It was embarrassing, disrespectful, and flat-out unprofessional. I've never been treated with such hostility over something so simple. I will not be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values respectful service and being treated like a human being. It's a ghost town usually... and now I see why. read more

The food is always good and our order is always correct. They have a good website to order from and the service is friendly, with a beautiful smile. Located in the Kroger shopping center on Floyd Road sits Star East, a run-of-the-mill take-out/delivery/dine-in (6 tables) Chinese restaurant...and don't get me wrong, "run of the mill" is not an insult! Star East is a consistent, CHEAP, conveniently located spot that serves decent quality food in hefty portions at a fantastic price! We ended up at Star East after calling to place a take out order. If you don't want to call in, you can also place your order online or arrive, order and wait. When we placed our order, they told us about 20 minutes until it would be ready, we gave it an extra 5 minutes and when we arrived we only had to wait a very short time before they handed us our order. Service - They were slammed! But, they did not let that affect their level of service. From the phone to the counter, they were pleasant, helpful and friendly. No complaints at all from a service level! Decor/Interior - This was the only "meh" part of the experience. The place was run down and in need of a deep cleaning and a tad bit of updating. From the bleached out menu photos to the outdated artwork, worn seating/tables to the dirty floors...while I don't expect P.F Changs level decor, I do expect the place to be somewhat kept up with. Food - Solid...and did I mention CHEAP?! I was feeding a family of four, so we ordered a few different things, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed! Three of us wanted Won Ton soup, so we ended up getting (2) quarts, which are only $2.95 each! We all ended up eating (1), the other hit the fridge for later. For our meals three of us went with the dinner combinations, which range between $7.50 - $8.65 and all come with protein of choice, white or fried rice and an egg roll. Respectively, we had the Sesame chicken, General Tsao's chicken and Broccoli and Beef. The fourth had Shrimp fried rice, which for a small was only $4.95. We all ate for around $35.00, and it was hot, portioned on the heavy side and of great quality! Outside of the worn interior, my only other gripe is the take out containers they use. If this isnt a first world problem, I dont know what is...but they have foil based containers, so they are not microwaveable. I know, I know...get over myself. But, I would be remiss if I didn't say it! Overall, we all really enjoyed our meal from Star East! While we live in Smyrna, this place isnt too far and will certainly be on our "go-to's in the future! read more

My Lovely Wife and I wanted ethnic food and were just wandering around to find something. We ended up dining at Star East and were very impressed. The waitress/host could not have been more pleasant. The food was very good with generous portions and reasonable prices. We had Mongolian Beef and spicy shrimp and chicken. The only negative was that the food is served in a styrofoam container with a little overmatched plastic fork. They had other customers picking up food while we were there, but no others dining in. Next time we'll get it to go. It's too bad their Yelp rating is pulled down by reviews posted three years ago. More recent ones agree that it's good and a bargain. read more

I always refer to most sub-par-yet-adequate chinese food as "bad chinese food", but in a good way. As in, even 'okay' chinese food usually hits the spot and satisfies the craving, but this ....this was just bad, in a bad way. The crab rangoons came with no sauce, and the overly-sauced teriyaki chicken skewers spilled all over everything else in the bag covering everything in a bright red, sticky syrup. The soy sauce packets tasted ancient; the fried dumplings tasted like mushy, rubber-like pasta with chunks of pork rattling loosely inside and even the fortune cookies were soft and stale. The only caveat that I will call attention to is that I ordered this as delivery, weeks into the Covid19 quarantine, so I suppose it's possible that the barely interested guy I spoke with on the phone, or maybe even the bad food could have had a little something to do with trying to maintain business through that time, but I won't be banking on that assumption. I'll be avoiding this place at all costs going forward. Really disappointed that I even spent money here. read more

We ordered food from here because our friends highly recommended the Mongolian Beef. So we ordered the Mongolian Beef (L), and the Moo Goo Gai Pan Chicken. When we got home and ready to devour our dinner we were very disappointed with what we got. The Mongolian Beef was sorta fried beef pieces and somewhat chewy, with lots of onions and barely any green onions. Bare in mind, I have made Mongolian Beef before at home many times and I have also ordered Mongolian Beef from other Chinese restaurants and this dish was completely different and very salty. The Moo Goo Gai Pan was also a bit off. It seemed very "soupy" in the container and much to do about nothing. Lots of veggies to fill up the carton and little bits of chicken. I was very disappointed with Star East. Will I come back? Most likely not. I have two other Chinese restaurants that I'd choose to order from before I come back here... oh well... read more

A tiny jewel of a restaurant hidden in the Publix mall area with the best food! I've been trying different Chinese restaurants in the area since I moved here last year and this is now my favorite. They use fresh ingredients, light seasoning and good sized portions. I can tell the chef is skillful, because I taste the flavor of each ingredient in every mouthful. The inside is very clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I wish I had taken pictures of my meals, but I didn't think of it at the time. I'll add some in a future review. At this time there is only takeout through an outside walk-up window because of Covid19, so order ahead if you can. You won't be disappointed! read more

I ordered for delivery today because I couldn't drive there. There was a $3.00 delivery charge with a $15 minimum amount for my order for delivery where I live. I ordered at 1:45 and they said it would take 40 minutes to arrive. My food got here in about 25 minutes which was fantastic! After I had placed my order I called back to see if they could include an extra dumpling sauce. My phone service was cutting in and out and apparently didnt want me to have the sauce. The person at the restaurant hung up on me, but before I could call them back he already returned my call. I thought that was awesome. Most places would have hung up and not returned your call at all. I was able to communicate and ask for the extra sauce then. I ordered teriyaki chicken and fried rice from the lunch special and it included my choice of an eggroll or egg drop soup. I chose the egg roll. I also ordered fried pork dumplings with extra sauce. All of my order was correct and they arrived in a timely manner. The food was hot and pretty tasty I might add. It's good to know that someone will deliver me food without having to go through a delivery service like uber eats or door dash. I would order again. Cool spot for carry-out. Not sure why someone would want to sit inside of a Chinese Restaurant carry-out spot, ijs...I don't know how to feel about the owners son working the front counter. He was like 6 at the time I visited lol. It was cute at first because he really wanted to help but when I saw him taking down orders, I was like "oh, I guess they just dgaf about child labor laws here" lol It was a little loud in there. The kids went to the back [dammit, now that I think about it, it was probably to help cook lol] but his mom was yelling at him so he was probably just in the way wanting to help. The food was decent. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS! I placed an order online and chose the option to have it ready for a certain time. I did this because I didn't have the time to sit waiting but wanted my food fresh. Well, I called to see about having it changed to delivery but decided I would just stick to the plan of picking it up but needed it a little earlier. So, at around 12:00, I asked for it to be ready at 12:30 vs my original requested time of 1:15. The guy I spoke to told me that it was already ready... which means my food was already sitting there and would have been sitting there over an hour if I had stuck to the 1:15 time. Even by 12:30, that means my food would have been sitting a while. When I asked why it was already ready when the online order says that it was wanted ready at 1:15, the man says "I don't know". I politely told him I didn't want it cause clearly they were planning to let it sit for over an hour. Well the lady calls my work number back and is yelling about delivery fees and what not. I explained, when I finally could get a few words in, that it had nothing to do with the delivery fees. That I didn't want food that was just sitting there for an hour. She tells me that he doesn't speak english and didn't know what I was saying. I tell her that when I asked to have it made a little earlier, he very clearly told me it was already ready. She starts to speak to the guy in their language and they're both yelling. She comes back yelling in the phone, calling me a liar, saying how a teacher could be such a liar blah blah blah. That the man never said it was there an hour. I'm a liar this. I'm a liar that. But if she would have closed her loud mouth for one second and let me talk, she would have heard my point. I NEVER said the man told me that. I told her twice that he said my food was already ready... My issue was clearly that I requested it for 1:15 and at 12:00 it was already ready, according to the guy. This lady goes on and on calling me all kinds of liars and never once tried to listen. Then hangs up. Oh well. Next time they shouldn't give the option to have it ready at a set time if they're gonna make it right away and just let it sit anyway. Had she respected the time I requested, even if I did cancel at 12, there wouldn't have been any food to waste. But I only canceled because I'm not going to pay for food that's been just sitting when I clearly requested a certain time. Horrible business with no manners. I never raised my voice once but this lady actually called the front office of my job looking for me. Then bitched a fit and called me out my name so many times. Sad.
