Dr. Irish takes his time to explain things to you. Recently my wife had an irritated cornea issue and Dr. Irish stayed late to help her. Absolute life saver. When I recently went in for my appointment, the whole staff was wearing California State University, Stanislaus, lightweight jackets. I asked why and a staff member told me that they wanted to support our local university. Class act on their part. They obviously care about being a good neighbor. I can't say enough about the good people at Monte Vista Optometry.

I originally had a great deal of confidence in this practice because of Dr. Irish. He was the only…read moredoctor who was able to properly diagnose an eye issue I was having after I had seen about three other doctors elsewhere who could not figure it out. When my insurance changed, I had to seek care at other offices, and none of them were able to give me the correct diagnosis. Dr. Irish eventually did, which is why I was very disappointed to learn that he is no longer with the practice. A year or two ago, while Dr. Irish was still the doctor here, I had an appointment and went through the entire process of having my glasses ordered. The technician collected my payment and told me the glasses would be ordered. I knew glasses could take some time, so I waited. After about a month without hearing anything, I finally called and found out that my prescription request had simply been forgotten. I ended up requesting a refund. More recently, I have been trying to get another exam scheduled. My original appointment was in February, but because of a family emergency, I had to reschedule. I eventually got an appointment with Dr. Irish several months later. Then, shortly before that appointment, I was contacted and told it needed to be rescheduled again, this time until the end of August. During that conversation, I was also informed that Dr. Irish was no longer with the practice and that there was a new doctor. I was surprised because I had not previously been told that Dr. Irish had left. I decided to keep the appointment because the practice already had my records and history, and after waiting so long, I did not want to start over somewhere else. Unfortunately, today I was contacted again and told that the new doctor has jury duty, so my appointment needs to be rescheduled once again. I completely understand that things happen, and I do not blame the new doctor for having jury duty. I also want to be very clear that I have no opinion about the new doctor because I have not even had the opportunity to meet them yet. My frustration is with the repeated rescheduling and the communication surrounding these changes. I sincerely hope the new doctor is wonderful. My disappointment is really with the overall experience. A prescription request was forgotten while Dr. Irish was still practicing there, I had to request a refund, my exam has now been rescheduled twice, and I have been trying to get this exam since February. I also only found out that the doctor I trusted was no longer there when I was already being contacted about rescheduling my appointment. Dr. Irish gave me a reason to have confidence in this practice. I just wish the communication and follow-through had given me the same confidence.

I had such an incredible experience at this optometry office that I had to share. From the moment I…read morewalked in, the customer service was on another level. Saul greeted me right away and made me feel completely taken care of. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything ran smoothly. But the true highlight was my exam with Dr. Avak. It's rare to meet a doctor who makes you feel like they genuinely care, but that's exactly how he made me feel. He took his time, explained everything clearly, and never made the appointment feel rushed. You can tell he's passionate about what he does and truly wants the best for his patients. Everyone I interacted with seemed committed to providing the best service possible, and it really showed. It's not often you leave an appointment feeling grateful, but that's exactly how I felt walking out. Also another thing was their brand name selection of frames and pricing was amazing.

I visited Dr. Avak for the first time to get an eye exam and new glasses after mine broke. His…read morestaff was courteous, professional, and very helpful. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Avak himself was the opposite. After completing all required forms, including disclosing that I have glaucoma and that I was declining treatment, Dr. Avak came out to the waiting area and abruptly told me he would not provide service. He stated that he "did not want to take the risk" of being blamed in the future, even though I offered to sign a written waiver acknowledging my refusal of glaucoma treatment. He refused to consider it and told me to leave. His assistant apologized and explained that it was his private practice and he could refuse service. While that may be true, the manner in which he handled the situation was unprofessional, dismissive, and unnecessarily rude. Patients deserve respect, clear communication, and reasonable accommodation -- especially when they are simply seeking a basic eye exam for glasses. My experience with Dr. Avak was deeply disappointing, and I would not recommend him based on his conduct.
