This place is kinda a bad joke. They treat coffee like it's some epic adventure, but they don't roast their own coffee, and what they do sell is other local brands, watered down. Customer service is not helpful or communicative. The owner, who fancies himself an artist with his Jerry Garcia and Chicago flag skateboard "paintings", doesn't know much about coffee either. Best to avoid and go a bit further West for authentic Dark Matter coffee. It's sleepy, and there is hardly ever anyone in there. read more

Just tried Standing Passengers and it's amazing. I ordered a specialty drink, red raspberry mocha, and it was one of the most delicious coffee drinks I've ever had. I need to come back for it ASAP. Cool vibe inside and kind staff! read more

Standing passengers is the best coffee shop in Chicago! Not only because we live right by it; but because 1) they have great coffee; 2) sweet art and art shows, 3) awesome back patio space where the doggos can hang; 4) the best workers and owner - sup Mark! I'd recommend the Matcha latte iced. And don't forgot a donut - they come in cute French fry bags. read more

Everyone is very nice and responsive. Coffee is an A+. Lots of games and art around the shop. They serve Dark Matter Coffee, Do-Rite Donuts, breakfast tacos, and sandwiches. They offer both vegan and gluten free (GF) donuts kept in separate containers and separate tongs for the GF (amazing!). We have a celiac in the family. Alternative mils are oat, almond, and soy... little pricey for the switch, but also what coffee shop isn't charging more for this. Almond & Soy are $1; Oat is $1.50. Unfortunately pets aren't allowed inside, but they do have some treats outside for furry friends. Will be back! read more

Good lord, this is becoming my favorite cafe. Great drinks, and the specialty lattes aren't too sweet. Cool art all around, excellent ambiance for studying (the music isn't too loud, wifi is excellent, and the clientele are relaxed), with a great selection of Do-Rite Donuts! They get right to the point with their drink selection, and they have a stamp card you can get to starting. Headed there as I type this. +I didn't want to share this because I don't want to lose my parking spots, but there's free parking down the alley if you really need it. But use this sparingly, yeah? I still need a spot. read more

For $9, I got a cappu-chai-no, which is essentially a dirty chai, and an old-fashioned doughnut. The chai is a solid choice, and they have milk alternatives, which is always a plus. It's a very cozy cafe where a lot of people come to do work or read a book, with very chill music. There are plenty of outlets and they even have a TV with a Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 plugged in by a couch, if that's more your speed. All in all, great place to grab a quick cup of coffee and get some work done! read more

So happy that this neighborhood spot made it through a very tough 2020-2021. Great coffee, inventive specialities and the sandwiches are delicious. read more

Excellent coffee and vibes, especially for a neighborhood spot. Reliably short line plus little treats if you're hungry

Standing Passengers is a funky, no-frills coffee shop, but the baristas and coffee make up for it. By no-frills I mean it's not exactly a warm and cozy type of cafe with a big fancy menu, but there are plenty in the area if that's what you're looking for. You won't find cushy seating and a fire place to sip your latte by, but you will find excellent coffee and a hip atmosphere. I usually stop in before work and occasionally on the weekend for a latte to go. The baristas are friendly and always in a good mood. I stopped going out of my way to another coffee shop because their baristas are always in a bleh mood and seem uninterested in engaging regulars. Food wise, they only offer some pastries. The croissants are awesome, and huge! They showcase some cool local art that changes often. I follow them on Facebook and see they have evening showings sometime. I need to stop by for one! read more

Nice, low-key coffee shop. The barista was friendly, and the music was great during my entire 2-hour stay. It's much more open and more sparsely furnished than that average coffee shop, so it doesn't feel crowded. The art on the walls was good, too. I only had black coffee, so I can't speak to the specialty drinks... yet. The menu doesn't show anything other than coffee, chocolate, mocha, chai, latte, cappuccino, and tea, with an asterisk that they have many more drinks, but it's a bit of an odd place for the clearly minimalist feel of the place. I'd prefer less guessing about the offerings. read more

This place is sick. Drinks are a bit expensive, drip coffee is $3.50, a latte is $5, and a specialty drink will be more than that. It's well worth it though since the guys are super laid back and they have retro arcade games, shuffleboard, and N64 games all available for free play. Great spot to work or socialize, they also have outdoor seating in the back read more

Fantastically crafted coffee beverages, tasty pastries, friendly service, FREE wifi, and open space with nice seating! They opened up about 3 months ago and were already fairly packed the Sunday morning I went. The store front can be easily missed so definitely look out T for the Standing Passengers logo on the front windows! The interior is clean and crisp feeling and their bathroom is also very nice. The woman at the counter was very sweet as we ordered our Toffee Coffee, Cold Brew, and the Monkey Danish! The prices were very good for the quality of the items! The Toffee Coffee (12oz) was very delicious and reminded me very much of Fall! It was very sweet, which is totally up my alley, and I saw that the barista pumped the toffee syrup twice in the cup, so if you want just a touch of toffee flavor, just ask for one pump instead! The Toffee Coffee was more of a Toffee Latte with the steamed milk and foam on top. I love every sip until the last! The Cold Brew was very strong and definitely packed a much needed punch to the morning. After sipping it halfway, we were ready to just move and get things done! The Monkey Danish is a pull apart Danish in a shape similar to a muffin. It's like Monkey bread but with some cheese on the inside and more flaky! It was very delicious with the hints of cinnamon. I really enjoyed my experience here and can see myself getting a lot of work done especially with the free wifi and cool music! read more

This gem is a total vibe. Always killing it with the music. Super cool owners. Cozy couches, and the new meatball subs are straight fire

Atmosphere: urban chic Service: pretty chill. It gives your friendly neighborhood cafe vibes. Not the super upbeat/overjoyed Starbucks mood. Drinks: I ordered a regular latte it was tasty and the foam art was great. Would definitely come back if I want to read a book or do some work. read more

Standing passengers is a great little independent coffee shop. The employees are very friendly and helpful. I got a hazelnut latte - it was very well made and not too sweet. New coffeehouse that has moved into the old Ugly Mug spot. Totally delicious. Tasteful, minimalist interior with plenty of seating that is bright, inviting, and without the overpowering music many coffeehouses have. Smooth and flavorful espresso with a low key vibe will bring me back time and time again. The owner seems knowledgeable and relaxed. The name of the coffeehouse is inspired by CTA. Much love to this place and hopeful for continued success. read more

I love all the new places in the hood but some just aren't living up. When I'm paying $7 for a latte, I would like it hot and served in a glass. They didn't even ask if it was to go or stay. We also got a scone. The girl behind the counter said, "they are really good warmed up." To which my reply was ok, we'll take it warmed up. She said "oh, I meant to take it home and warm it." No way to heat stuff up?! Alas, we took our $7 lattes, $4 cold scone in the bag that it was handed to us and went home to heat this shit up! The art is kind of cool. I just felt like the prices and the quality just didn't match. I don't think I'll be back. read more

Probably the best espresso shot in Chicago-- I'm a big coffee nerd, and my partner and I try to find the best coffee wherever we visit. This was the big winner! Super cool spot-- they have some games just like another spot in Wicker Park, but the coffee is much better. Very convenient stop on the way to the airport, too. Really nice ambiance. Will definitely come back next time we're in Chicago! read more

Yummy drinks, friendly staff, cool digs, what more can you ask for from a coffee shop!

Standing passengers is the perfect neighborhood coffee spot. Everything they offer is delicious and well made. I usually get an iced americano. Their inside is a great place to get some work done when we're not in the middle of a pandemic. Love this coffee shop! read more

Great atmosphere, matcha latte and chai latte hit the spot. Courtyard seating delightful. Barista chill, friendly in a laid back way.

This place does everything right. We tried an assortment of scones and each one was moist and light with amazing flavor-not like most scones you'll get. Group favorite was chorizo jalapeño cheddar. The coffee was incredible and the atmosphere was trendy and hip with pieces of contemporary art on the walls. We will be back before we leave. read more

Laid-back is definitely the adjective that comes to mind when trying to find one to describe the feel of this cozy neighborhood spot. Open the door and immediately your eyes settle on all the interesting seating scattered throughout with retro games like SNES and pac-man adorning the space - all free to play. The music is relaxed as are the baristas who greet you with an equally calm attitude - they also happen to make a solid cup of joe. I enjoyed a cappuccino which I sipped on sitting on a bright blue couch staring at cars go bye while my cup rested on a treasure-chest i.e the make shift coffee table. The fan, one of those old ones made entirely of steel, created a nice breeze while I took in the various decor on the walls; a bike, Kevin Smith picture, giant space ship. I admit I remained unsure of the "theme" but heck it worked, certainly the sum being greater than its parts. A guy finishing some work on his laptop got up to leave but not before walking up to the counter and letting them know he had moved in not too far from here with his wife and they could expect them to be regulars. On second thought, that's the best way to describe this place - one with regulars - which to me always describes the best kinds of coffee shops. An easy recommendation if you're in the neighborhood or even if you don't mind to travel a bit looking for a place to "post up". read more

Really like this space and the people who run it the couple times I've been able to stop in. The coffee has also been very good, the iced was particularly refreshing! Unfortunately I have to give two stars because they live up to their namesake in that they have no wheelchair accessible or stroller accessible entrance I am certain they are missing out on loads of pre and post park parent business (it has been discussed on the playground). I have had to stroll by a few times as I considered how I could get the pram in. It would be advantageous to make a way, we are a group with much need for caffeine. Note: I have called to ask about this and they responded as if they did not know it was an issue, but were sad at the connection made to their name. It does not seem that's what they were going for. read more

Stopped in to get some work done while having some coffee and a scone (from scone city, so delicious!). Not a huge space but high ceilings and a relaxed environment make for a great place to work. Coffee was good but would have liked to see a couple more food options on menu or a couple more in stock (as they were sold out of most stuff by 10am). Will definitely be back. read more

Nice place for private discussion with coffee. It doesn't have cool menu for coffee, but the ambiance is pretty cool. I went there for a live music show. Spanish music with Indo-Flamenco dance. So its a plus. They organize several other types of live music too. And another plus is pretty much accessible from public transport. I'd say if you love live music with a coffee, this is a must visit. read more

This is my neighborhood coffee shop, and I'm so impressed with all that they do for the community. I love working in the cafe if I'm working from home (during normal times). It's a great vibe, and it's clear that the owner puts his heart and soul into making you feel welcome. I definitely need to check out the backyard I have heard about! Was driving past and the unique standing passengers logo caught my eye. As soon as I realized it was a coffee shop I had to turn around and try it. Inside was very clean modern and simple. They had wifi available for guests. Tha plus the quiet environment made it perfect for studying or doing work. I ordered my usual safe choice (dirty chai) and it was perfect. Though their clever "vanilla ice ice baby sign" made it hard not to want an iced vanilla latte lol. The walls dawned chic art pieces, my favorite being a purple rain prince tribute. The menu had your classic caffeinated beverages as well as an offering of pastries and baked goods. They also had mugs and merch for sale with their super cute logo on them ( I love merch). The baristas we're welcoming and knowledgable. read more

Solid local coffee shop. The decor matches the chill vibe of this coffee shop. They particularly stand out when it comes to the creativity of their espresso drinks. I typically get their matcha latte or cappuccino, both of which are tasty. Free wifi is always a plus when it come to getting work done.
