I was a customer of theirs from 1990 until July 2020. They came to repair my central air. They replaced the fan motor in my furnace. Then I found the guy in my dining room dismantling my thermostat. From that point on, it never worked correctly. Almost had a frozen home because of it. I also never received a copy of my charges and receipt. Where do I begin? I needed a new thermostat which these nice guys charged me $230 for a 45 min job and $40 part. I had a furnace issue and they hit me up again for $350 and installed a water pump that was not needed. They installed a new water heater that was leaking after 2 hours...however they did send 2 guys back promptly to fix it when I complained. I am too trusting and do not understand plumbing enough. I would stay away from this company as it seems they are geared to boost the "revenue per call' as opposed to doing the job. read more

First off, the guys they sent out to my place are belligerent and insulting. I know that any skilled tradesperson loves to insult the last guy who worked on something -- "oh, the last guy who worked on your car/plumbing/wiring was an idiot". Usually, though, the guys will assume that you -- as the one paying them -- are their buddy, and they're friendly enough that it's like you're in on the joke. Standard is totally different. They will assume you know everything that's going on, insult you for asking questions, and then blame you for having someone besides them fix it. Major jerks. Secondly, despite all their bravado, they've now been out to "fix" my A/C twice, with the same results -- it works for 6 months and then dies. But of course, this is not their fault: It's the fault of the builder, me, etc. Avoid them. read more

Showed up at my place. Never even replied when I greeted him. Got mad that I didn't know why it was broken. Got even more mad when he found out the other half of the unit was on the roof. Cranked the AC all the way to see if it would work then said he would be right back and just left. He never came back. I called the company they said they would look into the matter. Nightmare start to finish. I scheduled an appointment for a 10-2pm slot. The operator had no idea what I wanted done, which was just an inspection on our a/c unit in our new home. So that was frustrating. I was told I would receive a confirmation call the day before and day of. After no confirmation, I called the morning of my appointment and was told I was on the schedule for 3pm. I managed to move my day around to accommodate this time. I was assured that the technician would call when he was on his way. When the time approached 330pm, I decided to call for a status update as I was only able to be home until about 530pm. The operator said he wasn't far from me (although he was about 30 minutes away) and that I was next. I asked if he was on his way, and he was still finishing up an appointment, so I decided I would rather cancel the appointment and move onto another company. At that point, a service company that can't do follow up just can't do great work in my opinion. And of course, to add insult, the operator did not make one apology given the situation I was presented with today. Definitely worth avoiding. read more

technician we have had come to the house always courteous and efficient. the web site shows 24/6 service - no Sundays. that is wrong! call their phone number and all you get is leave a message. no answering service what so ever. the office staff is extremely poor in service. several weeks ago the office was to mail documents to my home. documents were a write up for what service was performed and a renewal maintenance contract. Have not received to date, three weeks later. Called a few days ago asked they email the docs to me. office person said they would. I retract anything positive I ever said about this company. You might be better off trying to fix the furnace yourself. In January, our furnace went out, accompanied by a weird burning-plastic smell. The tech from Standard came out the next day, could not figure out the problem, finally replaced the furnace computer control panel (over $500). A few hours later, the heat went out again, with the burning plastic smell. Tech #2 said our blower motor was filled with cat hair (had cats all my life, never had cat hair in my furnace, and have been paying Standard to CLEAN this furnace since they installed it). He "cleaned the cat hair out," put the motor back in. 2 hours later, surprise! Burning plastic smell, no heat. Night 2 in January with no heat. They came back the next day with a new power source and blower motor, installed it, left. Burning plastic smell starts again, intensifies, we become so worried that we turn off the furnace. After a deeply weird conversation with the tech, who says sure, he noticed the burning smell, but there must just be something in the ducts, maybe cat hair, but definitely nothing they can do about it, I call another HVAC company. Lucky thing I did. They had installed a power source with too many amps for the blower motor. The burning plastic smell? The blower motor - brand new - had started overheating the minute the furnace went back on. Not only that, but the limiters - the little switches on the furnace that turn it off if it gets too hot - those were dead. So had we believed the tech about the cat hair in the ducts, that blower motor would have burned itself out. Possibly literally, because the furnace wouldn't turn off if it got too hot, thanks to the malfunctioning limiters. Another hefty check later and our furnace had new limiters, a new power source (the correct amps this time) and the blower motor - and I was really angry. Standard? Could not POSSIBLY have cared less. They had to talk to the tech. They had to see the paperwork. They had to talk to the new HVAC company. And oh by the way could they have that power source back, the one that was overheating the motor, because they could return it to the warehouse, and conveniently leave us no evidence that an incorrect part had been installed (no, actually, they did not get that back). They couldn't do anything. It wasn't their fault. The second HVAC company was probably wrong. And anyway, they can't give refunds, they have to get an ok from the owner and they'll get back to us. That was in January, when I finally got through to their "customer service" manager by giving the receptionist a false name. So, would it have set our house on fire? No idea. Maybe. It would have killed the entire furnace, probably. We were without heat for three night in January as it was, and this company never showed one SCRAP of remorse. Cashed our check and that was it. These people are DANGEROUSLY inept. Hopefully the poor Yelp reviews and slews of complaints on their BBB page will warn people away from them. read more

Well, after being rescheduled for the 3rd time and not showing up, i called another company for service and they were out within a week. Horrible experience! I'm selling my condo and asked them to clean/maintain my HVAC unit, so I could let the buyer know it was in good condition. The guy comes out, charges the full rate, DOESN'T even replace the filter, and leaves me with an invoice actually stating the filter needs to be replaced. Are you kidding me? If that's not included in a cleaning, what is? "Customer service", if you can call it that, only made the situation worse. I spoke with two different women on the phone, neither of which were remotely helpful. Every promise to get back to me with a resolution was ignored, forcing me to call back for updates. It started out excellent. I needed a humidifier repaired and furnace pvc pipes checked as there appeared to be some condensate/water leaking into the furnace. I was told it would be $125 plus parts and boy the parts kept coming. They replaced parts that weren't even failed. I had to replace all the Duct work and HVAC on all apts in a 4 unit. After a nitmare with another company, and getting multiple estimates I finally hired JC at Standard. He brought in his team of Hiram Araujo, and Pedro Camargo and the job was FINALLY done correctly.d It' a complex job with high ceilings and lots of duct work. The team went the extra mile to re-design the duct system and make changes during the project after testing airflow to make sure it worked 100%.. I you have Standard do the work, and it's a complex job, make sure to request JC use his 'A' team. Makes all the difference, as you can spend tons of $, on equipment, but it it's not installed correctly it's worth 1/2 the efficiency. read more

I have been a customer of Standard Heating & Cooling during the last 20+ years (way back when they used to go under the name of Brighton). Through all those years, they have performed routine maintenance for the furnaces in my two apartments and installed central air conditioning units in both places. Two weeks ago I decided to replace both heating units for 95% energy efficient ones. Standard performed a excellent jobs in just a couple of days with no interruption in heating during a very cold and rainy week. Not only I received a discount for replacing both units at once, but they assisted me at filing out all forms to obtain rebates from Peoples Gas. Very friendly staff and very accommodating schedule. Called this company to have my A/C looked at. As far as timeliness of the visit, I thought they were going to be a no call, no show but the technician did end up coming. I was told my thermostat was bad and a new one would cost me $180, which is grossly overpriced. I went ahead and let him replaced it because I just wanted my air fixed. I had to tell the tech that the screws needed to be removed to get the broken thermostat removed. Then I had to ask him for operating instructions which he said he did not have. And I asked him you mean you don't have instructions for something you're charging me $180 for? He runs down to his truck and brings me installing directions which I felt I needed rubber gloves to handle. So I still don't have operating instructions for the thermostat. I feel they grossly overcharge. They charged me a $91 diagnostic fee which was not applied to the work that they did. Will not be using them again unless something happens to the work they performed before the warranty runs out. read more

My experience with them has been a nightmare. Tech put air con against the fence. Left its door on the ground. Dent on furnace door was covered with their magnet! My window will not open they have copper pipes blocking it. Getting my rebates was another problem. Still waiting on rebates! Air blows from hole the pipes go into. I have used this company for a few years. I wouldn't rave about the company ever, but their service was tolerable despite some shotty communication and them telling me they didn't need to cut a hole in my ceiling to replace the AC unit (live in a condo) for which they needed to cut a giant hole in my ceiling, then they proceeded to drop something on my tub which left a gauge which was considered part of the "hazard" of installation. Anyway, things are usually okay for the annual check, I may have to wait around half a day, but they usually come (sometimes due to my persistent calling). I made an appointment for a "morning" appointment. They are supposed to call the evening before with the approximate time. Last time I didn't get any evening call and this time I just received a message for an "appointment tomorrow". I patiently gave them until 930am and then called to see when to expect them. I was told not until after 1pm. This is absurd, last time I checked 1pm wasn't in the morning. I understand things come up, but at least have the decency to call your customer and tell them there's an issue. I likely wouldn't have known if I hadn't called myself. I told them not to bother to come and I'll be finding a new company. I don't see why I should pay for a service when they don't value their customers. read more

I have had a mix of experiences with Standard Heating and cooling. While in my corporate rental they serviced the furnace and AC and were very professional and courteous. Now, while I am renovating a home, they sent out this great guy, Jose to inspect and clean everything - he also recommended duct cleaning which was excellent. I moved in this week to a non working air conditioner and they sent two guys out today who were NOT customer friendly or focused and said they had to come back when the coil thawed - news flash - it is 90+ degrees in my house and they have not shown up as of 9:45pm. The dispatcher, Dina (also great) called me to ask why I had been calling to get them to come back - they told her they had come back and my builders had turned the AC back on so they couldn't work on it - that was a huge lie as I was here all afternoon. Needless to say, the customer experience is not a focus with this company, their empathy for anyone trying to sleep in a house that is like a sauna does not exist. I now have to hire another contractor to determine what they did and pay twice. To say I am disappointed is an understatement. I like Jose and Dina but they don't have the support of their team and I would not recommend this company as a service provider to anyone after my experience of the last week! read more
