The first winery we visited at Vino Piazza turned out to be our favorite. Want to establish a winery/tasting room that I (and most other people) will love? Try blending the following elements: -Tasting room staffed by the 60+ year old winemaker himself, complete with Old World accent and hundreds of fascinating stories; -More than a dozen wines to try; -All wines priced lower than $30, most priced lower than $20; -Tasting counter build of old wine barrels topped with beautiful stone; -Tasting includes wines not yet released, and special wines that require a separate trip to the storage area because they aren't supposed to be opened. Stama had all of this. Which is why I walked away with almost a case of wine, and a bottle of olive oil grown in the winemaker's ancestral town. A fantastic experience, and about as far from the typical Highway 26 Napa experience as you can get. I'll be back, and no matter how soon I get back, it won't be soon enough. read more

There were some tasty wines here. Quite a flight to taste with about 10 wines for 5$. Not all were great but some where good and worth an inexpensive buy if it waives your tasting fee! There was also a pleasant Italian lady giving out meatballs for free, I'm sure isn't regular but she was awesome!! We visited toward the end of the day and boy did we save the best for last this day of wine tasting in LoCA! A small intimate tasting room that was converted from an old boiler room. We liked almost every wine, and LOVED the Almond Champagne so much we bought a bottle. Also had to buy a bottle of the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa which was EXCELLENT! While talking about the great selection Lodi has in wineries, we found out that Stama will be moving to a new location. It is by two other wineries we have club memberships to. We might have to make it 3 soon. read more

Great Wines - Great Pricing - Great Room The Greek wine maker has wine in his veins! It's a family affair going all the way back to Greece. Delicious Cabs and Zins to be sure. We never know when we'll like Merlot, but Stama has GOOD Merlot! Really, these wines rival the other great wines from around CA! The Stama owner and wine maker played host to our party. While it's terribly hard to sell good wine, he had his wines and pitched prices based upon which ones and how many. A less common approach, but fun to get our group to maximize our bottle-per-dollar adventure! Felt good to get great wine from a great guy at a great price. The location is on an interior corner of Vino Piazza, and is one of the larger spaces we visited. Though I really wasn't sure whatit was that occupied the bulk of the inside, it looked like some kind of boiler and gave a rustic, old world feel. Within the brick walls was a low-lit and elegant room fill with wines and other items. Outside the room was an L-shaped area the consisted of the main tasting counter and walls lined with pictures and other displays. Stama was a pleasant experience beginning to end. We had visited Stama during renovation. Now that it is completed, we enjoyed the Mediterranean feel inside and out. This is the only winery, we believe, pours 11 wines to taste for a nominal fee. Rebecca was friendly and very informative. It was the end of the day -- and, as they were setting up for an event, she did not mind accommodating us at closing. Most of their wine selection was good. We ended up purchasing a great bottle of zin and their case of Zany Zin (tasty for the price and hosting gatherings). We also bought an '05 Late Harvest Sauvignon Blanc which we later enjoyed pairing with our sea salt caramel ice cream. read more

Don't miss this place! I drive all the way from Napa Valley to visit Stama Winery and it's worth the drive. The wines are excellent. I haven't tasted any one that I didn't like. Victoria who is quite knowleageble always has lots of stories to share. When I visit, I drag along my daughter and her 3 kids from Stockton. There are plenty of interesting things to do at the Piazza and the grand kids never seem bored waiting for Grandpa enjoying the Stama wines. The wines are very approachable and ready to share with friends and family. Always a terrific buy. read more

My favorite winery in the valley-bar none. Set in the fun and festive Vino Piazza in Lockeford with 12 wineries to explore-what's not to like? The family, well, they make you feel like family. Bob and I were there to enjoy some tasting 2 weeks ago during the Lodi Wine and Chocolate event....we did not have a bracelet, but, we were not turned away! Many of the wineries do not charge a tasting fee! Bob & I purchased a bottle of 05 Napa Cab from Stama-I wish we would've bought a case-it was that good. So, Bob said to our pourer-a member of the family-we want to buy two wine glasses-well, when they found out it was our anniversary-they gave us a third for free! Nice touch-after 2 visits to Vino Piazza-still our favorite winery-you need to go just to visit the tasting room-the construction is one of a kind-go and see for yourself-you will not be disappointed! read more

It's unfortunate I am giving such a poor review to this place because I used to love coming here. Their wine is great and the staff has always been extremely nice, but I won't come back because of the owner (the older gentleman). I brought my dog with us to wine taste and he is extremely well behaved. Just sitting, not making any noise or walking around (better behaved than most children you'd see at wineries). I accidentally spilled some wine on the floor so i asked for a little towel to clean it up. The owner came over and decided to wipe it up himself, but also saying "this is why we don't like big dogs here." I told him it wasn't my dog that did that, it was me because I was talking with my hands, he didn't believe me and said "no, this is the dogs fault." First, the table inside is too tall for my dog to even reach so it would be impossible for him to spill. Second, he wasn't even sitting where it was spilled, my friend was walking around with him when it happened. This infuriated me and I'm not coming back to this winery again. read more

Positives: The staff is great. Gus, the owner/grape farmer, was there pouring and is very friendly. The little pouring room has great ambiance. Negatives: The wine is not impressive. I used to really like their Syrah, but the 2007 was lousy. Some of the wines could pass as average, but overall, I'll wait another year or two to try again. read more

This place was great! There was a fairly large tour group there when we arrived but one of the pourers still took the time to make sure that we got good service. I only liked one Chard they offered, but I found the lady offering tastings to be a little strange. Some wine club members were in picking up bottles so, the winetender was super nice to them, but when it came to serving us, she had nothing to say. She would pour, announce the wine and start humming to the overhead Spanish guitar music, as if she didn't want to talk or converse about the wine. Um, OK...awkward. I finally just gave up, as we had just had a semi-strange experience at another winery in this so-called "Piazza"...and I went outside while my peeps finished their tasting. We left with 1 bottle of Chardonnay and I'll probably never go back again. read more

Our wine godess Victoria was terrific, being that it was about 4:45 on a Sunday afternoon when we entered the tasting room. She took her time taking us through their wine flight, pouring w/out letting us know what the varietal was so that we could form our own unbiased opinions. Really like the Zany Zin; $17.95 at the winery. I found the SAME wine at my local Grocery Outlet for $4.99! Of course, I hoarded and bought a case. Visited several weeks ago. While the wines may not be quite as sophisticated as some wines in the area they are satisfying and the prices are excellent. The facility is attractive. I was hoping for a better experience. The tasting room and grounds are gorgeous. However, the girl pouring the wine the day we went in, was as cold as the tasting room (and it was VERY cold). She gave us the tasting menu and let us know that the more we checked off to taste, the smaller our pours would be. Okay...? We've been wine tasting all over, and I've definitely had tasting pours as well as generous pours. But, that was the first time I've heard of rationing tastings. Our stay was probably 15 minutes. There was no conversation, and even the one other couple in there wasn't receiving any rapport building convo. The wine was good, but the ambiance left a bad taste. read more

From the wine selection to the ambiance to the instant feeling of family, you can't help but to fall in love with Stama Winery! Their Old Vine/Zany Zinfandel are my absolute favorites but their late harvest is a special gift of a surprise (i'm not a sweet wine person) and so is the Nymph cab...btw, the only cab I give as a gift. You will see the Kapiniaris family or their wonderful employee Victoria any day you swing by their store. You're lucky if you see them out and about at Fleet Week in SF or at Lodi wine festivals because their wines and personalities are not the standard fare. I initially enjoyed this winery and joined their club. When it came time for club pick up I was charged on my card but not notified by email ( standard with wineries when you join their club to inform you of the charge and pickup party or pick up dates.) I contacted them, they had entered my email in wrong said they would correct it. Next club pick up comes around same thing happens, no notification so I go into the winery which is over an hour away to correct the matter and the tasting room manager is snippy with me so I quit the club in person right then and there. This has continued to happen not once again but twice and the last time, 2 weeks ago, caused my account to be overdrawn. I have gotten no apologies from the owners only excuses from the the tasting room girls. No response to my emails or calls to the wine maker and NO reimbursement for my charges. I will never support this winery again and will encourage all my friends and fellow wine lovers in Lodi to not support them either. There are so many more in the area that deserve and appreciate the business. read more

Mr. Kapiniaris, the vintner himself, was staffing the tasting room, and he's quite a hoot. Not afraid to bust our chops ("Why you always last with glass? You no like wine? C'mere!"), he just kept pouring and pouring. And we kept drinking and drinking, because everything he poured was good. (And no tasting fee!) 6 glasses in, I already had 4 that I wanted to to take home, and given the deep mixed-case discounts he was offering, our group took home quite a bit. The two sections of the tasting room were both nice and atmospheric, although they got rather cozy with more than 6 people. read more

Great reds! My wife loved every red she tried here. I limited her to one bottle and she had to do a couple revisits to figure it out. At the end of the day we walked out with a case of Rose and a bottle of the Curvaceous. My parents live nearby and we will definitely be back next time we are in town. read more

I absolutely love their Cabernet (the two I tried). They have such a cute wine tasting room and Sadie and Marissa are great company while tasting all of their wonderful wines. I definitely recommend buying a jug of the Greek olive oil that they have! I tell all my friends to head to that winery when they want to taste great wines. read more

Visited Stama not too long ago. When we walked in the older guy named Gus was talking pretty sternly to the gal working for him. Yellow flag, but I thought it was possible she did something wrong. Tried some wines and not bad. Nothing over the top but not bad. Was going to buy a couple of bottles to offset the tasting fee and Gus started talking about making me a deal on a mixed case. Long story short, basically he quoted a price that was less than 5% off the regular price and he was telling me I was getting wine club pricing. BS. I called him on it, paid the tasting fees and walked out. That dude's a real "winner." If you go bring a calculator. read more

I used to like to come here. The two girls who have helped me are awesome, one of them is the tasting room manager Sayde and she's the only reason I'm giving this place stars at all. I'm not a fan of most of the wine at Stama. They have quantity not quality. The owner was there not too long ago and was adiment I tasted wines I did not want to taste. It made me uncomfortable. I also don't like the way the owner was standing there belittling his staff, it was so unprofessional and I felt awful for the girls pouring for my group. This is not the first time I've witnessed this here at Stama and I just can't bring myself to come back after the last time. I can't support a business who treats its employees like that. Props to the tasting room manager for sticking it out there and keeping a smile on her face no matter how she is being treated. This winery is no where near my first choice anymore. This review is STRICTLY for the young blonde girl Sam, who poured for our group. We walked in and she was beyond rude. We felt so rushed, before we even got our first pour she was trying to pour the second. She was yelling and being disrespectful to the older gentleman when we were trying to pay and just have a conversation with him. I am beyond beyond BEYOND disgusted with how she treated him. He was so kind and so accommodating. She needs to either stay in the back of the double doors or not be involved in customer care at all. I will come back for his company but will turn back around if I see her. read more

Stama Winery never disappoints! Gus (the winegrower & winemaker) was pouring this weekend when we visited. What a great time we had! The atmosphere is great and Gus is fun & passionate about his wines. Stama offers a huge variety of wines to taste (perhaps a few too many) but you are sure to find one you really like. All are reasonably priced and great to share with friends. My favorites are the Syrah/Zin blend (perfect with BBQ!) and the Napa Valley Merlot. read more

Dimly lit, bar-like ambience. We loved the customer service here. We were at three other wineries in Lodi and this place was by-far the most fun and enjoyable. We came out with six bottles of wine with our group of six. We had ~10 samples of wines. Some were better than others. Although Lodi is known for their Zinfandel, i enjoyed the 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon and the sparkling wines (almond and brut). read more

Nice new facility. An old Lodi grower who has been making wine for a while. They just moved to this beautiful new facility on Davis Road. When we walked in they were crowded on all corners of the bar, but the pourer made sure we had a space and got our pours. They actually poured over 10 wines! My favorite was the Rose, the Zany Zin, and the late harvest Sauvignon Blanc. The people pouring couldn't have been more friendly. read more
