I was in the…read morearea after church on Easter, and many restaurants were closed, so I'm glad I came across it. From the outside and inside, the restaurant looks like a house. They have a seating area and a restroom available. They also sell Filipino snacks and other items, kind of like a bodega or corner store, which reminded me of places in New York. The food was great and the service was friendly and patient, especially since it was my first time. I ordered what I thought was a 1 item-entree, but it turned out to be a 3-entree meal. I swapped rice for pancit (a small upcharge), and also got beef, 3 chicken kebabs, and freshly made lumpia. Everything came out to about $30, and I still had leftovers, which was a great value. I'll definitely be coming back.

There are many options to choose from and all of your dishes come with rice. The restaurant has a very laid-back vibe and homey feel. There is indoor seating available for dining Inn as well as outdoor seating and what looks like a former home off of Livingston Road The food is very flavorful and most importantly, seasoned The pancit canton (filipino stir-fry noodles), barbecue on a stick, fried fish, dinuguan, menudo, and my favorite.....fresh lumpia transports me back to a trip I was able to experience in Manila years ago. They also have a market with packaged foods, refrigerated meals and grocery goods like chips, Asian/Filipino snacks, candy and baked goods like....steamed buns and ube cake to go. I grabbed an order of the frozen 7 Lumpia rolls to go to cook at home later this week during one of pretend to be Food Network "Next Top Chef" nights after work...lol. They offered them in a set of 7, 18 , and even larger. Both the chicken and pork lumpia options, are delicious! In all, this place is an outstanding family owned small business with a great selection of both prepared and grocery type . The dishes are authentic and very well prepared. The price point is great too and the servings are generous. I highly recommend you give this place a try when in the area.

Cydney was our waitress. She was superb. We had a party of twelve. She was there for us while also waiting on other tables. She anticipated our needs. There was a woman (maybe a manager or owner) who walked around to every table asking if things were okay. My husband ordered the pasta with marinara (not realizing it came with cheese- he had to send it back, he does not do dairy or meat). They should note that cheese is on it on the menu. I ordered three chicken wings (they were oversized - not my preference), potato salad, black eyed peas and one piece of cornbread. The chicken lacked flavor. It was just big and kind of greasy. The sides were fine. Ordered a piece of sweet potato pie to go and that was fine. The jazz contained a lot of talking. It was nice when they started playing line dancing music and there was a small area to dance. The dancing wasn't offensive or in the way...it was just right. Then came more talking. And advertising of a cruise, etc. It was okay, but I wish they played more music than talking. The same night, the restaurant attempted to charge me for a missed reservation fee ($5 per person). Luckily, I keep my AMEX locked. Weird, I gave my name to the hostess upon check-in. Wonder if that's happened to others. All-in-all, it was an okay experience. Not opposed to trying the restaurant again, but not necessarily rushing to get there.

We were seated inside, which had a decent amount of seating. I thought the restaurant was cute, and it had a nice ambience. We ordered several dishes, starting with the cajun crawfish Mac & cheese, crab stuffed oysters, and charred spring vegetables. All 3 starters were delicious, with my favorite being the crab stuffed oysters. The Mac & cheese was a close second - it was nicely seasoned and perfectly au dente. The vegetables were also very good, and the pita it came with was great. On the breakfast menu, we ordered the chicken and waffles and shrimp and grits. Both were very good. I haven't had many chicken and waffles, but the chicken was tasty with the hot honey. The shrimp and grits was very flavorful. If I had to pick one though, I would probably pick the shrimp and grits. The service was solid, she was very friendly and came back a decent number of times. I would 100% come back again!

We walked in and were blessed to immediately get a table despite being told it may be an hour wait on the phone. We received a menu and ordered the breakfast burrito and the biscuits and gravy. Our food came extremely fast which surprised me and makes me wonder how much is prepped ahead. My friend received the burrito and it was very greasy so she requested to order something else. My biscuits and gravy were yummy. The eggs were cooked well and the fried chicken was the star of the show. Easily this was some of the best chicken I have had in a while. I overall enjoyed my meal but I wish there was way more gravy as there was only a little bit layered on top of the 2 biscuits. My friend was given a menu to order something else and this menu was different and had dinner options. It was 4:30 when we came and not more than 15 minutes of difference before receiving a menu the second time so we were surprised but eager to look. My friend ordered the half chicken which came with collard greens and grits. Since there was a different menu I wasn't aware of I wanted to order something additional and opted for saving the brunch meal I ordered for breakfast tomorrow. I loveeee scallops so when I seen them on the menu especially over grits I had to order it. The scallops were cooked wonderfully and I loved the composition of the dish with the creamy grits and the acid from the tomatoes and the smokiness of the sauce and grits. My friend loved the half chicken and after trying it myself we both agreed Matt and Tony's knows how to cook chicken well. The greens had nice flavor but were a little dry and needed some broth/juice from cooking. Again the grits were delicious and creamy with a bit of smoky flavor. I also had the Peso Cocktail which was sweet with a nice kick. Overall I enjoyed this restaurant and would come again and absolute what I ordered again as well. Coming here next time will be hard cause I'm definitely going to be battling between wanting what I already had and trying something new.

Representing 2022 in alphabet series, S is for Southside 815. It's not only the southside of the DC area, but it's also on the southside of Alexandria, a few blocks south of Alexandria's "Main Street" King Street. I visited Southside 815 twice both in 2022. The one time I ate there was on Saturday, January 8, 2022 on a date. She lived in the Kensington, MD area, and I had won tickets to Dancing with the Stars live at MGM National Harbor. I thought a cute dinner spot just off beltway in Alexandria would be nice beforehand, which it was. This is a nice restaurant with various old school decor. The service was good & friendly. I was hungry getting a fish (I see they have catfish, so maybe it was that) & chips as well as a crab soup as an appetizer if I remember correctly. I enjoyed the food, but slightly on the pricey side but not too bad either. I think the crab soup was the best part, but it all was good. The 2nd time I went was after a holiday concert in Old Town Alexandria in December 2022. I was happy we were going here as I remembered liking it 11 months earlier, and we came for drink(s). I had a whiskey I think, pretty solid job the bartender did on that drink.

They had a cute outdoor seating space, however it was cold and rainy so we couldn't sit there. We had the fried green tomatoes, snd both got the salmon with two sides of your choice. The wait wasn't long, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. They also offer a Monday-Friday happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM, which is worth noting. Now that we've covered the positives... I came with my family, as we usually go out to eat on Sundays after church. I ordered the shrimp and grits, my sister had the dark‑meat chicken with fries, that unfortunately had to be switched when they brought her the wrong white meat, chicken and fries. My granddaughter got sausage and grits. There are no pictures of the food because I don't recommend you come here if you're looking for real southern food. I personally won't be back and won't waste storage space on disappointment. The shrimp and grits....the portion was so small, I thought they accidentally brought me the sample plate. It should honestly be listed under "Kids Menu". The menu says it comes with chorizo pork sausage, but instead of sliced pieces like normal restaurants, it was crumbled so tiny I thought it was seasoning dust. When I asked about it, they told me it's "put in very small so you don't know it's there." Well... congratulations. Mission accomplished. You get six shrimp, and they claim the dish is "spicy". Please, the spice level was somewhere between tap water and air. Then there was the chicken dish. I tasted it, and my sister will give you the full breakdown in her own review. The skin had a nice honey flavor, I'll give them that. But once you get past the skin, the chicken was out here playing hide‑and‑seek with the seasoning. Completely bland. The fries were fine, not great, not terrible, just fries. Now, the bathroom: I was unimpressed. When you walk in, there were paper towels on the floor and toilet paper in places it shouldn't be. The handicap stall does have a baby‑changing table and some extra paper towel and tissue supplies, which is helpful. However, the toilet seat covers in the handicap stall need to be replaced, even though the other stall had some available. Overall, the restroom did not feel well‑maintained. Great service can't make up for food and facilities that simply don't deliver. This was a disappointing visit, and I won't be back.

I was invited here for dinner with a high school friend who had been here before, and I text him appreciating the NEXT DAY, to say how good this place was. When you come in, you pass the bar and I'm sure someone has already greeted you by then. The customer service here was great! Throughout our entire hour.5 stay at EllaRay's, my table of 2 was probably asked at least 5 times if we needed anything - in the best way too, not the inconvenience type. The food is served hot-bar style, with someone there to present to you whatever you want. I ordered the smothered turkey, mac&chz, and cabbage, along with some red velvet cake and a mixed lemonade-tea mix that was sweeeeeet! The food itself was DELICIOUS. The smothered turkey was exactly that - see the picture of the portions too. The mac&chz was also that, cheesy, and the cabbage had a great spice to it, that I enjoyed! My friend ordered the yams, string beans and catfish - and from what he let me try (I was only interested in trying the catfish), I loved it! I think it would be something that I'd order as my side next time. For desert, I had the cake the following day and loved the fact that the icing was homemade - not heavy or thick. Now the only thing that I haven't noted was the service. Was the staff attentive and great with their recommendations, yes - but their line was just so long. Maybe I came during a rush but to get all of the delicious food offered, it did take a little longer than expected. Other that that, I loved this place! Pack your patience, and appetite!
