I cycled from Ranelagh to Lucan to see a bike that was on the the Stagg Cycles website. It wasn't built, so the assistant told me he would build the bike if I came back in an hour.
So I cycled to base2race in Ballymount to try an Orro, stopped at the Giant store on Long Mile and then cycled back to Lucan. The bike still had no pedals on it (even though I had returned after 3 hours instead of one), so I had to wait. Then the owner, Jimmy Stagg, proceeded to talk the ears off me at the top of his voice about random stuff while I sat on the bike, instead of fitting me to the bike. I literally couldn't get a word in edgeways.
The bike was too long for me and he rudely refused to even change the handlebar stem so that I could see what it felt like. That would have taken like 5 minutes, and there was only one other customer in the shop, which his assistant was handling, so there was no time pressure.
He also made an insulting comment about Base2Race bike shop, which is simply unprofessional. (Incidentally, I found Base2Race professional and efficient, and ended up buying a bike from there. Lovely bikes, knowledge owner, free PROPER professional fitting worth 130 euros when you buy a bike there).
Throughout my visit, Jimmy Stagg's attitude was arrogant and condescending, and I couldn't get my questions about the bike answered.
At Stagg Cycles, there is also nowhere to try the bike on the road or even in a yard/car park. Base2Race have a whole street that they let you tear up and down on to your heart's content, and CycleBike in Mary Abbeys (beside Capel Street) let your rip up and down the quays as much as you want to test their bikes.
There are plenty of good bikes shops in Dublin with good customer service and good bikes, for example the Giant/Liv store on Long Mile road (where the customer service is AMAZING - best in Dublin IMHO), Cycle SuperStore in Tallaght, Base2Race in Ballymount, Wheelworx in Fonthill Business Park.
Therefore I would NOT recommend going to Stagg Cycles, as you can't really try their bikes and I found the customer service appalling. read more
