(I ended up buying an accessory I needed - but that was off my own bat as I was so impressed with the way he went about helping me out.) He also told me that for bike services, he will sometimes offer a lend of a replacement bike. Oh, and they currently accept credit and debit cards. Sorted!

The Bike Institute's location is very convenient for me as I live in Ashtown and it's fairly easy to get there. If you search for the shop on google maps, it won't take you to the right place, which was one of the things I first struggled with. But I gave them a ring and they kindly directed me to the actual location. For starters, the staff there is very friendly and were incredibly helpful. It was my first time there and I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me anything I didn't need or were pushy in any way. As I only own a bike and literally ride it everywhere, I dropped it off first thing in the morning and asked if I could pick it up by the end of the day and the staff member confidently told me it'd be done before that. I was pleasantly surprised, as most bike shops don't have such a fast turnover! And that was a huuuuuge PLUS for me! However, just because it's a fast turnover, don't be fooled: the quality of the service was superb. My bike is smooth as butter now. So it's safe to say I am very happy with the service they provided! It should get me through the winter and once the winter is over, you can be sure I will drop by again to get the premium service for the summer days Thank you again to all the staff for a great experience! A brief explanation: I left my bike locked outside for 4 nights in early December and someone messed it up, so I brought it in for repair to another bike shop (OK, I won't say where) on 11th Dec 2024. I was told they ordered the parts for me (a hanger). Not getting any phone call updates which I was supposed to get I rang them twice, once in early Jan and then on Tue 21st Jan. The order was on the way, to arrive at the end of the month/beginning of February. I've already been waiting close to 6 weeks!!!! and couldn't wait any longer. Pretty poor service. So I decided to bring the bike somewhere else. My friend recommended Bolton Cycles - and here's the beautiful story: I rang the owner at 12 noon Wed 22nd Jan and explained the situation. He said 'Bring it in, I'll have the part and fix it.' The guys had the bike ready for me the very next day!!! Not only did they replace the broken part but also repaired the brakes and tightened the rather loose chain which gave me trouble numerous times. BOLTON CYCLES, You have a life customer in me now!!! Well, I've been a regular customer of Bolton Cycles for the last 5 years now, and would solidly recommend these blokes. I just recently got a second hand "GIANT" racer off of them, which was originally worth about 850 brand new and they gave it to me for 320, one year old but post-overhaul....and they let me trade in my previous bike which i had bought off of them and they knocked off 110 (a bit less than half of what i paid originally, but it was 4 years old)....so i was laughing! Also, I went back to them twice to tune up a few things on it, things that they probably should have charged for, and they didn't. If you're friendly to them and show customer loyalty, they will throw things in when they are making a sale and their prices for flat repairs, buckle repairs, brakes and gear jobs are all fairly decent. They also will sort you out with a 6 month guarantee, even on second hand bikes, so it's not a case of "buyer beware" like it would be if you tried to get a bike in that bike yard on Ryder's Row. Sure, it's not the nicest place to hang out, you can barely move around once you get inside because it is literally wall-to-wall bikes all over the gaff, but they make up for it with a decent service. (NOTE - they don't accept cards....get the cash from the Centra just 5 doors down).

I spent 260 euro for repair that lasted 12 days…read more I picked my ebike from repair on 10th November. I had spokes installed in front wheel, rear wheel rebuild and ensure brake discs are screwed properly. It's now 22nd November and my rear brake disc just became completely loose. On 22 Aug, after shop replaced my brake pads, I came back to the shop right away to tell that the brakes do not feel right and the young lad completely brushed me off. I believe that initial improper repair of the breaks is what's caused the issues, not the quality of the parts. Subsequently I had to leave the bike for another repair. There are other issue with most recent repair: they failed to fasten cable harness back and failed to mention that they chose wider rim for rear wheel than original, effectively forcing me into replacing tires as well. I'm still going to replace tyres, as I believe that I had to rebuild my rear wheel due to too wide tyre installed on the rear wheel. I asked the shop to "Check if bigger tyre would work" according to wording on my receipt. Shop has chosen the tires that started rubbing the rear fork and destroyed my rear rim. I didn't ask for specific tire model. I did ask for wider tires. I didn't think I'll need to add "wider tires that wont destroy my bike". Why would I trust you guys to do anything in my bike, if you install parts that are definitely not fit for purpose. You called me back after rebuilding the rim to tell me that the tyre is too wide. Why you didn't tell me that when you originally installed the tyre and I asked that question? Very unsatisfied with shoddy workmanship in the shop.

Fortunately, I did not provide them with the access code to claim the funds when they asked me to do it (a word of advice to fellow bike-to-work scheme users: NEVER share the code with this guys unless you confirm the bike's availability in the store). I was told that the bike would be ready in a week and paid a €50 deposit, which was supposed to be refunded once I shared the access code. Advice to other customers: I would never trust again their word about "having the bike in the warehouse", but if you still do and pay the deposit, ask for a receipt the moment you pay it. I did it, and they said they'd send it by email. That email never got to my inbox, so now I can't claim anything) Fast forward two months, and I found myself making countless calls and receiving nothing but false promises. Each time I inquired about the bike, they assured me that they had contacted the warehouse and guaranteed the bike's availability within the next two weeks. However, when those two weeks passed, I called again, only to be presented with yet another excuse, prolonging my wait by an additional two weeks. Frustrated by their lack of transparency and poor service, I decided to cancel my order and requested a refund of my deposit. They instructed me to "contact their orders department via email." Despite my numerous attempts to reach out and request the return of my deposit, they have remained unresponsive. It's disappointing to feel that my €50 deposit has been completely disregarded. I'd avise others to be cautious when dealing with this store.
