I love bicycles, but I have a bit of a mixed history with them. Within a month of buying my first (used) bicycle here in Dublin, it was stolen. A very generous fellow student gave hers to me, since she is busy with study, her family, and career, and doesn't find time to ride often. It needed just a bit of TLC, though. I haven't had much luck with the bicycle shop in the center of Ranelagh, and so I tried Think Bike. The service was excellent, and so was the pricing. I asked for a new font basket, a new seat, u-lock, air in the tires, and a general check overall. For all of this, plus installation of things that I bought, I was only charged 80 euros, which seems like a fantastic deal to me. The repair shop folks are very professional and quick, and they will even send a text message to let customers know when bicycles are ready to pick up. The retail shop offers new bicycles (and the occasional used bike - you need to call and ask daily to see what they might have, if anything), accessories, and even a limited range of clothing. Since it was my first time bringing in a bike, I didn't understand the process. I told the person in the retail shop what I wanted to have done for the bicycle, and he sent me up to the repair shop, which is a block up. Once there, I was told that, actually, I needed to go back down to select the basket and lock, and then come back again. Not a big problem, of course, but it was all a little confusing. When the deadline for when I was told my bicycle would be ready was approaching (and I needed to take care of other errands), I used the number that I found on the web to call Think Bike. Again, it was a bit confusing. I knew, from reading about them on the web, that Think Bike offers training workshops, and so when I spoke with someone on the phone and he asked whether I was calling about the "work shop," I thought he meant a "workshop." I went to the repair shop, but it was 2pm and closed for lunch. Bad luck on my part, I guess. A person in the retail shop helped by providing the direct line to the repair shop. All confusion aside, I can't fault the bicycle service nor the pricing. The men in the repair shop were also friendly and helpful. Best of all, the bicycle is in perfect order now, and I wouldn't hesitate a moment to go back to Think Bike. Especially since I now know the lingo and procedure! read more

Think bike is a great shop! I've just walked by and seen that they're now running a deal where you get to test out a bike for two days for free. They're also great with service even after you've taken the bike out of the shop. I ever so smartly punctured my tire only a few weeks after I purchased it. I brought it right back to the shop and they replaced my tire for free. They've got a great selection of bikes for every level of rider, whether you've just gotten off your training wheels or you've worn a yellow shirt during the Tour de France. There's a whole bunch of kitted out bikes, but also cheaper options for those who don't need all the thrills. They also have lots of other gear in the shop to help you get outfitted for your new biking adventure and a diverse range of locks to keep away the thieves (they run anywhere from €5 -€200). And like I said before if for some reason your bike veers off course the shops offer a great repair service. read more

I've an old bike ~40 years on this earth and it needed some work. How much exactly I'm not sure as I never asked for a second opinion; mistake on my part, granted. I was given an approximate price and the problems that needed fixing I left my number and was told I would have it in a week. A week passed and I heard nothing so I enquired, apparently attempts had been made to contact me, more work was needed so the bike had sat in limbo while I sat in the dark on the matter. I gave the go ahead, they ploughed on and ~4 days later I got the bike back. Now what with respect to what they repaired/replaced the work was good. The bike is in tip top condition. The problem arises when one takes into account what they did in addition and without my consent. The bike now has an nonfunctional 6th gear where before it had 5. This is no big deal either. My biggest problem with their service is the treatment of my dynamo: It was wired through the frame, the front bulb was blown the back worked perfectly. Without asking me, or apparently checking functionality they cut the wires making it near impossible to rewire it through the frame without dismantling it telling me it was broken. I raised this issue and they said bring it back to be rewired FOC. On returning with one gent shouted to his colleagues to see who could rewire a dynamo, only him it would seem. He was busy and only available Wednesdays and Saturdays. Thinkbike be damned; dynamo rewiring is easy. I did it myself. I'll not be back there. Some things they do well but there is a culture of replace not repair, planned obsolescence rules and hot damn they know how to charge. They're careless and uncaring. Dublin is full of bike shops hungry for work and eager to please. It's one of these I'll visit next time. read more

Yesterday I went out on my Bike for the first time properly in Dublin. I cycled along the coast and back. Pretty much at the last junction before my house a white van decided to just pull out onto the road driving through me at the same time. Fortunately I wasn't injured, a bit shook up but ok. However my bike wasn't so lucky. One of the wheels had been buckled by the van on impact. I immediately decided to take the wheel to Think Bike as my girlfriend had had excellent service from them on a couple of occasions. Once I found the workshop which is up the side road and to the left I handed my wheel in and the guy had it back to me within 24 hours all fixed. This cost 15 euro. Not bad considering a new wheel would have cost me 300 euro. The shops themselves are not massive but seem to pack in the bikes for sale and the workshop looks very organised. This is a proper bike shop all the guys in the shop obviously cycle a lot as they are thin! So all in all a good experience. I cant really give five stars as I didn't really have much done but the service seemed very good. TIPS! The workshop is off the mainroad up the street, take the first left. I wouldn't park in front of the shop, the Garda were giving people tickets when I was there. Don't expect a bike shop to be suprised if you tell them you have been knocked off your bike by a van. Recently moved to the area and wanted to buy a bike to cycle to work in the city center. So I went into Think Bike and I have to say they were less than helpful and borderline ignorant. I decided to dig out my old bike and when I do buy a new bike it will be elsewhere. Think Bike is a waste of time. read more

Visited the workshop to have a mudguard on my kickbike fixed: the small welded piece of metal used to attach it to the frame has broken off. The guy first suggested to fix it with cable ties, then he agreed to fix it for €10. When I picked up the mudguard the next day, it didn't fit in place because the replacement they used was too long. They made a quick fix and I was able to ride my kickbike home, just to find that the nut they used is getting in the way of the brake cord. In the end I bought a cheap drill and a hand riveter, drilled off the remains of the original part they never bothered to remove, and fixed the mudguard myself. With such a sloppy job on this minor repair, I wouldn't trust them with anything bigger. read more

I always found good service in Think Bike, both in the shop and the workshop. They are always happy to take your questions and give advice. They never push anything on you here. On one occasion before I went to shop to buy a replacement pedal - I only needed the one - they sent me to their workshop where they gave me a used pedal they had lying around. How nice! Saved me buying a pair. On this latest visit I was here to get my partners bike serviced and tyres replaced (as a birthday present, romantic eh?). For a finish, along with the new tyres, it needed new brake pads and a gear cable. Overall this cost 125 EUR, with 40 EUR of that going towards the service itself and the rest on parts. The reports form my partner were good, the bike was now in fine fettle again. The tyres they recommended were the business. A few things annoyed me though on this latest visit to Think Bike. The arrangement was they'd call if anything extra needed replacing on top of what was discussed, but they didn't do this. They also never called to say the bike was ready, I only got called after I emailed them to check when it would be ready. Apparently they sent a text message over the weekend, but I never received it. But the thing that annoyed me most was the bike grime left on the handle bar grips, which I only noticed had transferred to my hands by the time I was almost home. For 125 EUR I would have thought a cursory wipe down after the service would have be part of the package. All that being said, I will go back to Think Bike and I would recommend them. read more

I always wish I had money in the pocked for a shiny new bike when I pass Think Bike in Rathmines. Think Bike has a sizeable stash of bikes, for biking enthusiasts preparing to cycle across the island as well as city-dwellers who need a environment-friendly vehicle to get to and from work. When I borrowed a bike from a friend recently and needed help to lower the seat (which was completely stuck because of rust) I took the bike to their garage. The bike-repair guys deserve a big pat on the back for an awesome service. Not only did they fix the seat, they pumped the tires and looked at the brakes, and didn't charge for it! I left with an old bike in tip-top shape and it didn't cost me a thing, except a promise that I would use their service in the future. Not a problem! I'm still saving up for a lightweight but sturdy bike and I'll surely spend my money here. read more

What with Dublin Bikes, the Bike 2 Work Scheme and Lance Armstrong competing in this years Tour of Ireland it's no wonder that cycling is big in Dublin right now. Think Bike have been on the go for quite some time now, over ten years, and have recently had a revamp. I know because their graphics and interior seem brand new. If you check there website, they offer considerable discounts to cycle couriers and if that's their target market then they probably know their stuff. Think Bike also run a cycling club, which has taken on it's first professional member, Richard Felle, in the elite cross country discipline. They stock a good range of stuff, not quite as much as other places like say Cycleways on Parnell St., but a good range of the quality brands and more accessories and parts than you would expect for a small-ish shop. The staff are very friendly indeed and are more than happy to deal with any queries you might have. The guys in the workshop round the back are also more than helpful. read more

I was offered some good advice on what I could do to improve my ageing yet still rather amazing bike! There are many good bike shops around Dublin (I know I've been to all of them!) but Think Bike shines above the rest! The costumer service goes way beyond excellent- I had a problem with my bike to work scheme that prevented me from working with another shop but at Think Bike they were kind and patient enough to work with my office all the while allowing me to use my new bike while the issue was resolved. No headache, no problem, just good service! Since the initial experience, I've ordered a second bike, replaced tires, adjusted brakes, and replaced accessories and each experience has been just as good as the first. I feel lucky to have found this place (friend's recommendation) and I know they will be my go to bike shop for as long as I am in Dublin! read more

I got my front tyre and tube replaced here, costing 41 quid (I got a kevlar tyre installed so it was a bit pricier, would've normally cost €27) Staff were friendly and I got a text to say when it was ready to pick up, which was a nice touch. Will definitely come here again. read more

Terrible place, i left my bike and they never called me to tell me that it was ready, when i called the next day they were very rude on the phone. It was supposed to take 40 minutes to change the tire and it took more than one day. They also told me a price at the beginning and a different one when picking up the bike read more

Be aware!! The 2 times I went there to fix my bike, I had to come back within the next few days to fix another issue related to the previous one and more expensive. Plus they are really rude to people, in general not the best service. read more

I used to live across the road from ThinkBike so they were the natural choice for parts and services. I took my bike in for a service a few months ago, and it actually came out worse than when it had gone in, after telling me they would call when it was ready and then forgetting to do so. So I took it back and the guy was quite embarrassed and sorted it out for me very quickly. A couple of weeks ago, I happened to be in Rathmines and got a flat. They changed the tube quickly, BUT: A) squashed in a longer tube than the tyre, which is potentially dangerous and B) used one with a Presta valve rather than a Schrader, which is fine but not ideal. Neither was mentioned to me and I only learned about unsafe point 'A' when I went to pump the tyre a week later. I would have preferred that they told me they just didn't have the right tube. This time I am not hauling the bike back to them as I no longer trust that they are conscious of a customer's safety. read more
