The bike was sold to someone else by Friday pick up. Hollingsworth said they'd call me back within half an hour as they tried to source the bike elsewhere. I rang back four hours later and was told sales staff were on the floor. Do not shop here.

Given that Dublin is full of grimy little bike shops that mainly do repairs and have a small…read moreselection of bikes that you can hardly see because they're so tightly packed, whereas the bigger shops in the suburbs like Eurocycles or Cycle Superstore look like they're printed off a CAD-CAM app screen with no personal touch... this place ends up being one of the best bicycle shops in Dublin. The bikes are well displayed and easy to see and try out, there's a reasonably good selection, and the owner is very knowledgeable - which counts for a lot. Nor does she try to take over your life while giving you advice - unlike other bike shop owners I have encountered in this town!

To be fair to them, once you get inside, tis a different story altogether. It's a fairly big warehouse space full of all types of wheels, and a separate section dedicated to cycle accessories and clothes. To be honest though, it's not that good. I don't know much about bikes, but the selection seemed to be heavily based on men's racers and mountain bikes. Not much in the way of women's or alternatives like fixies or hybrids. My main gripe though was that I must have been there for 15 mins, wandering round, wanting to part with my hard earned cash, but not knowing where to begin. In all that time, ain't no one came over and chatted with me or asked if they could help. In the end, I gave up and left. Customer service is key folks! You can have all the annoying jingle ads in the world to get people to your shop, but if you can't help em when they're there, well what's the point!!!

But one person stole it because when I came back to use the bike it wasn't there and the race kept running in the app. The support service is terrible, they were always busy, I sent emails that were not answered, and even if someone stole it from me and I had the key, they wanted to charge me a fee of 150 euros. I opened a case with the police, so that they can help me, since the service itself has been very negligent with the customer who always uses it. My dissatisfaction remains here, and I hope it will be resolved because so far it has not been found and I have not been told any satisfaction.

Dublin was always the exception, I think we were all of the opinion that the bikes would be nicked or damaged and that would be worse than not having them at all. Happily the vandalism issue seems to have been addressed in the form of lots of clever security tricks and we now have dublinbikes - a service spanning most of the city with drop points/bike racks scattered all over the place (there are 40 of them). The bikes themselves have built-in lights and locks and are really a great addition to the city. You have to pre register to use them and part with precious credit card details etc... so it is not something you can use on a whim (well, the first time anyway). However, once you are registered (on the website above) you are free to roam the city as quickly as you like. Cycle helmets are not provided but I would strongly advise you buy one and just have it with you on the days you think it likely you are going to use the bikes!

Two days the same person rang me back and said they couldn't fix my bike because he was told they don't have the room or the facilities to fix my bike, strange because it has bike repairs and bike service on the sign and it's not as if I was handing in a Boeing 747. I went up and asked him what they couldn't do it and he said because it was a different bike to what they sold they won't do it...it's a standard bike, nothing special, it just needed a nut and bolt. So I walked out and brought it somewhere else, told them the story, they laughed, fixed my bike on the spot and gave it back to me that day. I probably won't go back there, thanks for nothing

This shop is not just open to UCD students, it can be used by any member of the public. They sell bikes in here but they also do repairs, i'd say this is probably their main function. They are kind of slow with their repairs however, it seems they work to their own time and expect everyone else to use their time too. I don't want to put this shop down too much because it is a great facility in a great location. Of course it promotes cycling and facilitates people in their attempts at doing their bit for the environment. one nice thing about this shop is the fact that they will let you borrow their tools to do your own repair if its something small, maybe this is not something they do regularly but i reckon if you ask nicely they will help you!

The Bike Institute's location is very convenient for me as I live in Ashtown and it's fairly easy to get there. If you search for the shop on google maps, it won't take you to the right place, which was one of the things I first struggled with. But I gave them a ring and they kindly directed me to the actual location. For starters, the staff there is very friendly and were incredibly helpful. It was my first time there and I didn't feel like they were trying to sell me anything I didn't need or were pushy in any way. As I only own a bike and literally ride it everywhere, I dropped it off first thing in the morning and asked if I could pick it up by the end of the day and the staff member confidently told me it'd be done before that. I was pleasantly surprised, as most bike shops don't have such a fast turnover! And that was a huuuuuge PLUS for me! However, just because it's a fast turnover, don't be fooled: the quality of the service was superb. My bike is smooth as butter now. So it's safe to say I am very happy with the service they provided! It should get me through the winter and once the winter is over, you can be sure I will drop by again to get the premium service for the summer days Thank you again to all the staff for a great experience! I walked in off the street with a puncture on my old crock of a bike last month, and after a few more visits & consultations, yesterday I walked out with a smart new Giant hybrid, Kryptonite lock & helmet. I don't know if the dog hypnotised me or what, but my new bike is awesome & my commute to work is quicker & more enjoyable. Highly recommended whether you need a puncture repair, second-hand bike or (in my case) a hassle-free bike-to-work scheme package.

My bike (Decathlon racer) is working well despite the original model I inquired for and agreed to meet up for was at the end of the day not available. The second bike was hit and miss, paid 200€ for a bike that on first real drive made noises, saddle bar was short and didn't allow for raising enough. Yes I know it's a used bike and can't expect to function like new, but it's more the attitude asking about replacing/fixing the bike was dealt with that is wrong here. Especially as the website says this: "if there is a problem with the bike shortly after you purchase it, and it is something that I have overlooked, I will rectify it free of charge. If if is something that has occurred as a result of regular wear and tear, or after a few weeks/months of use, I can repair it or upgrade it at a low price, or sometimes at no charge." In summary, if considering dublinbikeman take the bike for a proper run before purchasing and don't expect any fixing afterwards.
