This original Elverys on Suffolk street feels like it's been around forever, open since 1847. Its…read morepretty much the best stocked sports shop i've ever been too. Although they've expanded in a big way across our little Island, this Dublin city centre store still is sill the best of the lot. From Leitrim GAA Jerseys to Connaught sweatshirts and the latest football strips from the UK and beyond. They do more then the above though, with Elverys stocking everything from Archery equipment to darts as well equipment for lesser played sports, in Ireland anyway, such as cricket and squash. Worth a look if your looking for that hard to find county jersey or if you take up baseball.

Actually I recently became utterly disillusioned with the idea that Champion Sports actually sold sporting goods when I went looking for golf balls and none of their store had any. Champion sports seems to mainly stock sport inspired fashion like football jerseys and those tracksuits that no one ever wears while engaged in any sporting activity.... but you'd think with all those trainers they'd have something I liked... unfortunately they didn't!

I nip into Champion Sports to see if I can pick up the official jersey. They only have a few left, S/M/L no XL or above. There was a roving assistant on the floor who was informative and guided me to a changing room. I tried on the L, and although snug, I decided to take it, and a S for G_ as advised by my daughter. Meeting the rest of the family a short while later, I asked G_ to try on the jersey and it was a little small so I decided to change it for a M. On the way back, i chanced into another shop and found an XL which I purchased for myself. On returning to Champion Sports, I encountered a different floor assistant, who advised me that they handle exchanges & refunds at the regular till (no special back of the shop customer service till) . I went to the till, and with no quibble exchanged the S for a M and returned the L for a refund. The assistant was apologetic that they did not have the XL in stock, and went so far as to advise me to try alternative stores (not Champion I might add) in the area. I don't shop in sports stores as a rule (hence the XL) and so will probably have little cause to revisit any time soon, but I have to admit that I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of service and the customer focused attitude of all of the staff that I encountered. I am one of those people who lost my taste in soccer at a young age, not because I had anything in particular against the sport. I don't know what it is really the rest of the world is obsessed with it and in the states it's losing money. That said a friend of mine is an absolute football fanatic and I was stuck for a birthday present idea. I popped into this shop and was amazed at the selection they had of jerseys and other gear for all kinds of teams. I won't pretend that I support a certain team or player, but if you're a football fan in general this place has it all.

Now, this location is an outlet, meaning they sell merchandise from past seasons at a reduced price. The prices are indeed reduced heavily, but the fact that the starting price is so high means the reduced price is still high. I took a look around the store and was dismayed that I couldn't even buy a single item. Even a bra was only reduced to 27 euros. Sad face. If you are a camping nut or just enjoy being outside, this place is worthy of a stop in. Their stuff is really excellent and fun to just look at a wish for, as I do. The main drawback is that, because it is an outlet, you don't have as many options. You're definitely not seeing their full range, which is even more impressive.

Then I was brought my size for a try in the booties I opted for and they seemed right. I tried the next size down just to be sure. And I was. Bish bash bosh, booties got. (I love the fact they are called booties, makes me smile every time) To be honest my visit here today was rushed (as I was tight on time and knew what I wanted), but it appears to have a lot going on in the store. The Great Outdoors brand is a bit pricey though, this and their other main store around the corner are the only shops of their types on this side of town and they know it. But the staff know their stuff and they do stock a good range of gear.
