Unfortunately I had another problem with a serious defect in the replacement boots while walking the Camino. Again there was no problem when I returned. They gathered the facts and agreed to replace the boots with a new pair. The customer service was friendly and helpful and common sensed! Ian in particular was great to deal with. Then I was brought my size for a try in the booties I opted for and they seemed right. I tried the next size down just to be sure. And I was. Bish bash bosh, booties got. (I love the fact they are called booties, makes me smile every time) To be honest my visit here today was rushed (as I was tight on time and knew what I wanted), but it appears to have a lot going on in the store. The Great Outdoors brand is a bit pricey though, this and their other main store around the corner are the only shops of their types on this side of town and they know it. But the staff know their stuff and they do stock a good range of gear.

The staff can talk the talk and I imagine that most of them are kayaking, kiting or climbing themselves silly when they're not selling outdoorsy equipment. I bought a backpack here about seven years ago and it has served me well through horrible airports, dodgy buses and wild and wonderful camping experiences. Doesn't look a day over three! Some equipment may seem expensive but it is good quality stuff so if you think you will get good use out of it then make the investment.

The store stocks most of the gear you will need for camping, hiking and all kinds of other outdoorsy pursuits. I've even brought friends here who just wanted to buy a good quality bag or backpack. Yes, it's not the cheapest brand and the staff can be a wee bit pushy trying to get you to buy things you don't really need but if you want decent outdoor gear, it's this or the Great Outdoors.

And tourists, not just couples with matching jackets, which is weird but I get, no, whole groups of tourists wearing matching raincoats, usually luminous red or orange ones as well. Whether they're male, female, European, Asian, American, wet or dry it makes no difference, they're just as likely to go out looking like their nations official hill walking squad. Just check it out, I've seen old biddies on history tours doing it, lads on drinking holidays doing it, fans over for the game doing it, teenagers on language exchange doing it ... everyone's doing it! ... XD This shop could be a little more comprehensively stocked, they don't seem to have the full range of North Face clobber and I've found the size range to be limited at times. The staff have obviously been Stateside for sales bootcamp, the result being you'll need bear mace to get them off your back.

I didn't come to Ireland to fish, but I did enjoy the merchandise and the store clerk talking shop with a customer who actually knew fishing. The store extends into the back and over into another room, and is packed with all sorts of fishing gear and accessories. In other words, everything a fisherperson could want. As for me, I focused on the later, particularly with the knives.

This original Elverys on Suffolk street feels like it's been around forever, open since 1847. Its…read morepretty much the best stocked sports shop i've ever been too. Although they've expanded in a big way across our little Island, this Dublin city centre store still is sill the best of the lot. From Leitrim GAA Jerseys to Connaught sweatshirts and the latest football strips from the UK and beyond. They do more then the above though, with Elverys stocking everything from Archery equipment to darts as well equipment for lesser played sports, in Ireland anyway, such as cricket and squash. Worth a look if your looking for that hard to find county jersey or if you take up baseball.
