The food was good but the Hostess attitude was not. We arrived on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of tables inside and outside. We had a party of 5 and 3 was already there. They wouldn't seat us until everyone was there..which I understood if the place was a crowded time and they don't want us holding onto a table. However, it was empty and they were seating parties of 2 at tables for 5? What different would it have been to seat our party of 3 at a table of 5. Today I decided to try out Stacks Restaurant in Burlingame. I've read some nice reviews on them so I wanted to try a good breakfast place. I did check out their menu online and decided that I wanted to try the daily breakfast special. They were VERY busy when I arrived around 11:30am, which I overheard the manager tell another table was a little unusual for this time frame. But, the staff held it together and gave me a great time. The first thing I noticed was the decor, not sure how to describe it, perhaps a little on the "french cafe" side, but was cute. I ordered the special, Greek Omelet, which came with their potatoes and a bagel. I also ordered a cup a coffee and one (1) banana, coconut, and macadamia nut pancake w/ real maple syrup ($1.69 extra). The omelet itself was very flavorful coming with olives, onions, feta cheese, and scallions. The potatoes were wider cut hash browns which were good, and the bagel was just plain and OK. The pancake was DELISH! One of the best pancakes I have ever had. The combination of the flavors, which are my favorites, were great. The pancake was $4.65 for one, but was huge. I cannot imagine eating two or three of them. And, I really enjoyed their coffee. Fresh and full of robust flavor. Overall I really did enjoy my time here. Saturday brunch of course busy our wait was about 10 we sat outside and was greeted by our server he was very nice and welcoming just like the hostess( maybe the owner) super nice as well. Ordered our drinks they came quick coffee was nice strong and the Bloody Mary was on point spicey and strong. Food was brought at a reasonable time: good presentation on plates, food was warm, portion is filling, I liked the buttery bagel with cream cheese and raspberry jelly. Came to stacks on this rainy Saturday morning around 11:30ish. Luckily the bf found parking at the lot across the way that does not have coin-operated meters. Wait time was about 15 minutes. I ordered a mimosa and the applewood bacon/avocado omelette which came topped with cheese and sour cream, a side of potatoes and a bagel. Definitely recommend this for bacon lovers it was full of yummy crispy pieces. The signature potatoes were well seasoned and flavored with onions. Tons of food! I ordered my eggs sunny-side and was greeted with still clear whites. They only offer fruity iced tea, but I didn't find this out until I went in for a drink of my iced tea. I love Stacks. This is my go to brunch place when I'm back at home. I tried their omelettes, crepes, and frittatas here, but I think Stacks executes their pancakes the best. Now I just get their banana wheat germ pancakes every time I come here. The pancakes are so fluffy and extremely filling. I can't finish the short stack and always take the rest home. Try going during their off hours if possible. Their service is usually good until they get super busy. You'll still get your food, but don't expect the waiter to give you his/her undivided attention. I usually park in Burlingame's public parking areas and do a little shopping afterwards. It's a great place to make plans with friends or family. They are also kid friendly. read more

I have a dilemma whenever I go out for breakfast. Should I order eggs, or pancakes. I could order both, but I know I'll get too full. Besides, I like to get a full size of whatever I've ordered, and also with kids, I need to leave extra room in my stomach in case I need to finished their food! The crowds outside of Stack's usually discouraged us from coming here on a frequent basis, so we end up going somewhere else along Burlingame Ave. We haven't been here in a while, and we weren't on any schedule, so we put out names down on the waiting list. After 30 minutes, our names were called and were seated. After studying the menu, the waiter came by, took our orders, and waited for our dishes. After about 10 minutes our orders arrived: -2 eggs, 3 chicken apple sausage, hash browns, and a toasted bagel. This is pretty sizeable order. My wife shared this with my youngest, who only wanted the eggs. Good sausages, and the hash browns were browned and slightly crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. -Fruit Crepe. My oldest daughter ordered this. Two crepes filled with fresh strawberries, bananas, pineapple (did I say fresh?), and blueberries, all topped with berry yogurt. This also came with hash browns and a bagel. She managed to eat one, but filled up with the hash browns with lots of ketchup. I ate the other one, and it was good. The fruit was indeed fresh and sweet. -Lumberjack Pancakes. I ordered a full stack. These pancakes have raisins, fresh blueberries, bananas, and walnuts mixed in, and topped with wheat germ, and comes with a side of blueberry compote. Very hearty pancakes. Wheat germ adds a nice little crunch with each bite. Shared half a pancake with my wife, and I still had some leftovers to take home. With so many breakfast options around Burlingame, Stack's is right in the middle. Very generous portions, and a wide variety in their menu. The food is pretty good, and the service is pretty attentive, in spite of a very busy weekend dining room. The long wait for a table, however, really deters me from being a frequent diner at this Stack's. Rather than spend most of my morning waiting for a table, then eating, I would go some of the other restaurants in Burlingame, where I will be seated quickly, pay the bill, and still have most of the morning to do what I want to do. read more

We ordered two pancakes, one blueberry and the second one banana to share. I just thought that they would just have the blueberries and bananas on the side. I never knew that the fruits were actually in the pancakes. Both were very good. I ordered the eggs benedict. Love the thinly sliced ham and the eggs were poached perfectly. I've heard about Stacks before and I know there is one in the city BUT I didn't want to deal with the pain in the ass one quarter gets you 4-6 minutes parking, so the Burlingame location it was! EFFICIENCY Came on a weekday and to my surprise this place was a little packed for a weekday, which is a good sign! The staff were friendly and we were seated promptly. We didn't have to wait long for our orders to be taken, thumbs up for fast service. Our food didn't take long to come out, that always puts a smile on my face because God knows how grumpy I get when my stomach is eating itself. DESSERT FOR BREAKFAST ANYONE? BANANA-PECAN WAFFLE filled w/ roasted pecans, topped w/ sliced bananas & fresh whipped cream- The first bite was heavenly and soon I found myself shoveling the waffle into my mouth and before I knew it, it was half way gone. It was like eating dessert for breakfast, it was that good! The waffle was cooked perfectly, it wasn't undercooked and doughy and it wasn't overcooked and crunchy. It was nicely crisped on the outside and nice and soft in the inside and the pecans were nicely roasted, YUM! With a stern face, I uttered "eggs Benedict, this time with no hair." On a foggy Sunday afternoon, right after quenching my spiritual thirst at Cornerstone church in the Mission, I raced over to Burlingame chasing after the already rising sun. Upon landing, it is no surprise. Lawn cheers decked out on the pavement, anxious heartbeats waiting for their names to be called. Similar to most popular Chinese restaurants, I strolled back and forth waiting for my identity to be called. Well, there were differences. Absent were rude and loud Chinese people bickering about Taiwanese politics or boasting about how China has created such a memorable ceremony. Absent were moms in over curled hair do's bragging about their kids making the honor roll and their stellar piano recital. "Sh*!" Get me my food so I can bring on my comfort food groove. Growing up in the industry, dining can be a medicinal experience. With a slouching back lagging from the foggy mist from the San Francisco that has entered my veins, the aroma that permeated from the kitchen made things even worse. On foggy days, I yearn for comfort food so once seated, I uttered rapidly my promising picks that comprised of a ying and yang balance of SAVORY and SWEET. Without hesitation, I ordered the blueberry pancake (2 stack). This dish is all about the marriage of aroma and flavor. With nutty notes from soft pancakes, the maple syrup rounded out the dish. Upon the first full bite, with the sweet syrup oozing like lava on my tongue, I immediately heard a voice. "Everything is going to be okay." Not seeing Aunt Jamima around, I came to accept that comfort food was parallel to a comfortable warm hug. Ahhh. I had reached another food orgasm. (With my plump lip drenched in syrup, the world stopped for just a second.) With my hopes up high, I dash to compliment my over sweetened palate. With my fork and knife, I made a v-cut into my eggs Benedict. With savory ham contrasting the bland muffin, the Hollandaise sauce rescued the dish. Unfortunately, two strands of hair resting on the dish immediately eliminated my appetite. Like any great manager would do, Richard saved the meal by serving us a new plate of Benedict, without the hair. We were not charged for the Benedict. Further comfort additions include the side potatoes, that lacked crispiness. A special order of corn beef hash on top of the potato was the right choice, adding flavor to the otherwise bland potatoes. Looking out the front mid level window, it was a great site. Eating pancakes while seeing hill-high trees made the visit worthwhile. Reminding me of a summer lodge, Stacks continue to have hints of neighborhood rustic. Pancakes and syrup had cured my formerly slouched posture. With a straight back, I was ready to enjoy a day in the sun. *note: my favorite is still Howards Cafe on 9th. If you are not the waiting type, this is not your place. Read the reviews, take heed, and just don't bother. But for those of you with just an ounce of patience, the wait is really not so bad. Stacks provides you with coffee, chairs to sit on while waiting, and even some tables for you to wait at. On one particular day that we were there, there was even a guy making balloon animals for the kids, and Girl Scout cookies for sale around the corner [Thin Mints and Samoas - WOO!]. We like to wander around the neighboring streets during the wait to check out all the boutiques. You're in sunny Burlingame. As for the food when you finally get inside? YUM. I have tried the Eggs Louis, which is a version of the Eggs Benedict with crab and spinach. DELISH. I've also heard good things about the Crab Frittata. The potatoes are awesome - sorta onion-flavored. The service is decent, and once you order, the food comes out relatively quickly. I would return again. It's quite the drive from SF, but parking's not so bad once you get there, and the shops are perfect for killing the wait time. My only other complaint, aside from the wait, would be the cleanliness of the place. Since many of the patrons are children, the carpet is not exactly spotless. Pancake smushed on carpet = not yummy. Make sure to wipe your seat off before sitting down, or you may wander the rest of your day with crusted pancake stuck to your rear. I'm a self proclaimed Brunch fanatic and I must say Stacks can serve a HEARTY breakfast, lunch- brunch. Their menu offers typical breakfast and lunch items, but is pretty darn extensive. I've never actually had any of the lunch items here so I'll just shoot for the nitty gritty. As most yelpers have already stated, their Banana Macadamia Nut & Coconut Pancakes here are pretty much to die for. Slices of real banana (I'm a sucker for the real deal, no artificial or compotes for me) and chunks of macadamia nut are actually integrated into the light fluffy pancakes, not to mention the shredded coconut thrown into that mix. Not a pancake or nut fan? No biggie, this weekend I ordered the Strawberry Waffle and was equally pleased/ satisfied. Strawberries (fresh, no compote here either) & whip cream on a rather large brown toasty waffle? Gluttony at its finest. My companion ordered the Mexican Omelette- whole lotta meat, avocado, cheese, sour cream with green onions with half a plate of hash browns, topped with a big ole bagel, and a side of salsa. Lets just say it was tasty and the utmost filling. Normally I'm not fan of chain restaurants, but I would have to make Burlingame Stacks an exception. Aside from never disappointing me with a colossal brunch of epic proportions- they also have a self serve coffee dispenser in the front of the restaurant, so you can get FREE (yes, FREE) coffee while you're waiting. If you order coffee, they just give you a large thermos of black coffee, but hey, no one's stopping you from refilling the FREE joe from the outside. I can't believe that I haven't yelped Stacks before! My bff has taken me here many times and has already made great memories here! I love it. We came here with our kids when they were a lot younger and it has been around for a long time but this last visit, w went here for breakfast after a whirlwind visit. I had the basic breakfast with eggs bacon etc... we split a pancake. I have to say that everything is always so good! The pancakes melt in your mouth... and I am learning to just taste... and not stuff myself!!! But this is a hard place not to do it! (But I was good - i left a lot on my plate cuzz they give you a lot! A bagel with every breakfast selection!) I love how they leave a pot of both piping hot decaf and regular coffee on the table. It was such a nice visit and Stacks helped end it with the perfect good bye breakfast . Stacks is the place that you will remember and want to go back to. I brought some coworkers here today for a post-Christmas treat and both the food and service were just horrible. I was rather embarrassed for recommending Stacks as a "great" place to do brunch. The majority of those working today appeared to be Latin, but oddly enough, I felt that they were a bit racist. Within my party were several people "of color" and we were the most ethnically diverse group there. We waited 40 minutes to be seated, and they sat several groups that arrived later, ahead of us. Apparently, my coworker did not tell them that our group was all present. Okay, fine. We then waited nearly 20 minutes for our waiter to take our food order. Forty minutes after taking our food order, and 40 minutes of me observing other groups who had ordered their meal at the same time we did (and finish their meal!!!) I spoke with the manager, who said our food was on it's way out. We got our food nearly an hour after being seated. In addition to the ridiculous wait, 1) they forgot two orders, 2) they did not give us water, 3) our servings were much smaller than normal, 4) my omelet had hardly anything in it--it was two slices of avocado from being a plain scrambled egg, 5) my coworkers steak was cold and rubbery, 6) the waiter never checked back with us, 7) the manager tried to argue with me when I told him that I wanted to address a complaint, 8) they auto-added tip to the bill for a party of 5 adults and 1 kid. It's funny that the food and service was so shitty, considering that as I was observing the waitstaff, they were very accommodating to the elderly and Caucasian patrons. I saw our waiter check with all the other tables several times over. Did he think that we were not going to tip? The meal was on me, I am an over-tipper! Idiot!!! I've been here on quite a few occasions, but with "wealthier-looking" associates and have always been treated well. Funny, the one time I take people who appear to be less than wealthy, their food and service is shot to shit. F*ck you Stacks waitstaff. You all looked Latin to me, and you're going to be racist towards people who appear to be Black and Latin? You all deserve to be FIRED. I feel bad about giving this place just 2 stars... why? Well, the restaurant itself was nice, clean, prices reasonable (most dishes under $10) and the service was great. Even the food was really good. I had one of their egg scrambles with their breakfast potatoes and toast. Most of their breakfast dishes come with a bagel but you can sub any kind of toast you want if you don't want carb overload. HOWEVER, halfway through my meal, there was a pebble (or small stone) in my eggs! I bit down hard on it and at first thought I had broken my crown! Luckily, I was ok. I informed our server who promptly brought the manager over. He apologized profusely and comp'd my food. So... other than THAT, it was great I guess. It just spoiled my experience here. My friend and her daughter loved their eggs bendict and Minnie Mouse pancakes, though. I'm sure what happened to me was just a fluke... but I'm still a bit traumatized. Then, after dropping a friend at SFO for an early morning flight, I ventured in this morning and was so thrilled to see lots of tables available. I ordered a ham and cheese omelet - huge, and I thought there was no way I could eat the whole thing, but, yes I did! It was so perfectly made. Came with some great potatoes and a bagel. My friend ordered a huge fruit bowl, packed with an assortment of ripe fruit chunks. Prices were reasonable, coffee was great. Service was nice and friendly. My only quibble was that it was kind of chilly inside and I had to wear my jacket the entire time. Next time I visit I'll try the pancakes. There was plenty of street parking (on a Friday morning), but there is also a pretty big public lot just kitty-corner from the restaurant. read more

They do offer complimentary coffee to people waiting in line outside, but, like the coffee they sell inside for $2.25, it's not good. They open at 7am. We were there at 7am. Why? Cuz we had to wake up really early to drop people off at the airport and at that time, all you want to do is eat something good for breakfast to reward yourself for having to wake up early. We found parking right in front. Usually there is a line out the door and good luck finding parking nearby. That is the benefit when waking up so early to eat breakfast. We shared the blueberry waffles and a veggie egg scramble with egg whites. The waffle was flurry and the blueberry toppings were tasty and still had a fruit texture in it. The egg scramble tasted so healthy! Probably because it was basically veggies and egg whites. Thankfully we had home fries to balance the healthiness out.
