Stack burger seems like a local mom and pop burger joint. Walked here from the hotel to get a reasonably priced breakfast. Had the omelette. You get four items in it and a side of potatoes for about $6-7. It is half the price and better quality than room service. The neighborhood and building seem shady. All the doors were locked and you had to order at the window and seat outside only if you wanted yo eat there. The glass on the back door was shattered and some fell out when tired to get in cause it was locked. The lady who took my order was friendly and efficient. They do take phone and card payments but do NOT take discover. So paid cash instead. Food was great and better value and quality than room service. I had a craving for Philly cheesesteak earlier this week and since I can no longer get my fix from papa geno's (closed near me) I checked for what is near downtown I could snag for lunch and saw Stack Burger show up as highly rated.. I knew their main menu is based on burgers but the pictures looked good enough so I thought I'd give it a try. I pulled up to the parking lot and saw there was no inside.. just outdoor seating, which normally downtown isn't the most attractive option but the weather was nice, no one around that made me uncomfortable, and the place looked very welcoming, and I'm glad I stayed! The staff were super friendly, menu was simple enough, and I got my food within about 5 minutes of ordering. I tried to download their app per their website and couldn't find it in the App Store! On to the meat of the review.. the sandwich was fantastic! I loved the ratios, the crispy flaky bread, the hot meat and spicy peppers, gooey cheese. At first glance I wasn't sure I'd be able to finish it but honestly it was too good not to. The fries were nice and crispy, but the sandwich was definitely worth coming back for. This review is for delivery and the food only. A burger craving is so different than other cravings. It doesn't really die until you satisfy it-- the grease and gout calls for us all. I ordered the Double Stack with cheese. Now, this is a decent Burger. A no frills Burger, and this is not to spit on gourmet burgers because there's definitely a time and a place. It's not the best or has absolutely mind blowing flavors. But when you just want a simple burger with a soft bun, 2 meat patties, melted American cheese, crisp bright lettuce that doesn't look like it was dragged along the McDonald's kitchen floor before it was slapped onto your burger, crunchy onions, juicy tomato slices, the essential condiments (mayo, mustard, ketchup) and then finally, the healthiest addition of bacon... as you see where I'm going with this, it was everything my cholesterol levels didn't need. Jokes aside, I will say this burger tasted a lot fresher than most burger places. I didn't feel it was anywhere as greasy as a typical burger is, and I really appreciate and applaud Stack Burger for its obvious commitment to better ingredients and simplicity. I didn't feel like a beached whale after all. The burger without bacon is $6.99 on DoorDash, and I imagine the prices are even better at the actual brick and mortar. If you want a combo with fries and. 20oz drink, it's like $12.99. Other places charge $12 for just the burger alone. Feed your family in this economy! Our favorites are the croissants with sausage and cheese, and their breakfast tacos are good sized and delicious as well! A must get is their Vietnamese Iced Coffee! I was looking for late lunch spot in downtown Houston after hotel check-in. Lots of restaurants both on street level and in the "underground" seem to close by 2-2:30pm. Luckily, Yelp led me to Stack Burger. Stack Burger is literally a tiny little shack with some funky art. Kind of odd considering its located next to a school and surrounded by office buildings. Its a pop-up style restaurant where there's only room inside to order and pay. Eating is either takeout or on the wooden benches outside, which is also painted with funky art. The menu offers traditional burger, hot dogs, fries, Philly Cheesesteaks, and Mexican and Asian-inspired baguette sandwiches with items like Korean Bulgogi. You can also get Vietnamese Iced Coffee, though I do not remember seeing banh mi on the menu. The Spicy Chicken Baguette is solid. Soft, fluffy torpedo-shaped roll stuffed with grilled chicken, jalapeños, bell pepper, and onions. Great flavors, not overwhelmingly spicy, and definitely not drowning in sauce. The fries were straight out of the fryer (HOT!), and were thick, well-seasoned, and crispy. A great place for a quick bite at under $10. read more

Found this little gem on Yelp! You Yelpers did not lead me astray! This is a small business tucked away in an old one story building near the Mickey Leland office building and the bus station. See other reviews re: location, but it is a colorful small brick building covered in a fantasia of murals. The menu selection is fairly limited, but you should be going there for the burgers which are wonderful. The lady waiting on you at the window (also, the cook) called her burgers too thin to cook any less done than medium rare, but I did not find the patty too thin. It was thicker than most fast food places and nice and juicy even at medium rare and a bargain, especially for downtown, at $5 and some change with all the fixin's! She fixed it up just as ordered and it was ready within 15 minutes. A great, quick lunch. There is a walk up window at the back to order; some bench seating covered by a canopy for waiting and eating your meal if you are not getting it to go; and about 7 parking spots directly behind the building in the row closest to the Stack. The rest of the lot is a pay lot and they will tow. Try it...you will be amazed! A bunch of firemen came up to order just as we were leaving and we all know firemen love good food! In fact I was at the office one day searching for a good burger spot in the area and this place came up. After looking at the address and photos I just could not invision where I saw all the weird art at on the side of the building I noticed it wasn't so far away so I ordered for pick up. A double stack with cheese and fries. Quick and easy. I head there and once I arrived, remembered that I had seen it before. I've passed it by a number of times never knowing it was a burger spot. The burger was fresh and made to order. For a double it wasn't huge but for the price and especially for lunch, it was the perfect size. One bite was all it took before I was satisfied with my order. I knew at bite one that I was going to want another. So for the taste... I could down two of those doubles and cancel all remaining meetings for the day and do a power nap. I definitely recommend this spot for a quick burger downtown. If you go, make sure to download the app and order before you get there. Setting / location - 3 stars First, there is parking right next to it that is free which is a big bonus in my opinion given the area. Take note the seating is limited both inside and outside. A coworker recommended that I gave this place a try and I wasn't disappointed. First and foremost, I want to say that I am rating Stack Burger for what it is -- a quick grab-and-go place with no-frills. Having said that, Stack Burger offers burger, and variety of fusion-type sandwiches. Heck, it even has breakfast tacos. The price is very reasonable and that is always a plus. My goto sandwich here is a chicken fajita on a baguette. I always get with a little Sri Racha sauce to kick up the spice level a notch. The burger here is not bad but I'd rather get something like a banh mi or my fav, chicken fajita sandwich. With reasonable price, decent selection of sandwiches, and its close proximity to my office, I am giving Stack Burger a 4-star rating. read more
