This place is a joke. It took them two months to address a repair issue. The worst part is they tried to blame their incompetence on us. Once the issue was "fixed" it still was not fixed. I'm cutting my losses and living with the problem until a different repairman can be found or the appliance needs to be replaced. I would pay a few hundred dollars more on an appliance to support a local business, but not when they perform like St Helena appliance. I had a thermostat problem with an old Wolf range. I ordered the parts directly from Wolf and had St. Helena Appliance come install them. The fix didn't work, so they returned a few days later. The technician said that they hadn't noticed another problem, which caused the new thermostat to short out. They're now fixing it properly. I don't care so much about a mistake. But I really appreciate a company culture where they have the honesty to admit it, when it would have been easy to shift the blame onto the part I'd purchased. Five stars read more

We live in Napa and have a Miele dishwasher. We had several problems in the past (the dishwasher is about 20 years old) and it was repaired, but never completely. A few weeks ago I called St. Helena Appliance and scheduled an appointment. They were extremely thorough and courteous on the phone. Mike came out to do the repairs. He could have patched things up, the way the previous technician had. Instead, he literally took the entire dishwasher apart and he not only fixed the problem, but he also pulled the built-in unit out from the wall and stabilized it in it's housing. It had previously been sliding around under the counter and he shored it up. He definitely went above and beyond what we had expected of him. He was here about 2 1/2 hours and the cost of the call, while not inexpensive, was certainly very reasonable and less than we had expected. The dishwasher now works like new. We were fully prepare to replaced it, which would have been far more expensive. Hats off to Mike and to St. Helena Appliance - they have our unqualified recommendation if you have high end appliances (we also had them work on our Sub-Zero refrigerator) that need attention. read more

John was five minutes early for our appointment. I've worked many years in hospitality and know great service. That's John. I think he knew more about our washing machine than the manufacturer. Really! He made an assessment, wrote up a recommendation showing parts needed and said he would have the office email the total parts and labor estimate; which I received the next morning. Here's the best part. John was very clear he was not trying to sell us anything. Just telling us the problem and his recommendation. He said, "Take your time to think about it." No pressure. I hate leaving negative reviews, as this sort of thing should be handled between the parties involved. However, St. Helena Appliance has not taken reasonable steps toward good work or good service in this instance and refuses to offer a refund for an incorrect part and/or shoddy work. It is unfortunate that I was not at home when a technician from St. Helena appliance came for a range repair. There's no way the company would be paid for such a job had I been there to see the result before the technician left. The 'repaired' dial on the stove now stands a full inch higher than the others, and while it makes the burner turn on, it now fails to turn on the indicator light as it should. These may seem unimportant to some, but this is my home and the appearance, functionality, and safety are all important to me. When I went in person to try to resolve this, Brian at the front desk gave me the rudest reception I've ever had from a service industry, or anywhere for that matter. He refused to speak to me about the issue claiming that he would not speak to the tenant, but only to the owner. When I asked him to call the owner to get permission to deal directly with me he called and completely misrepresented my complaint on the phone, despite my ongoing objections and when he finished he still refused to deal with me, despite the stove and poor repair being in my home. He continued to claim that the job had been done correctly. Someone named Eric called from the company today, the next business day after my visit. I appreciate the call and he was polite and professional all the way through, a nice contrast to the in-person reception. However, he made no effort to actually find a solution to the issue so I'm not certain why he called. He claimed the correct part was not available (the range is admittedly an older model, but I found the correct part or suitable replacement online with a 5 minute search) and so they used the recommended replacement, what looks like a one-size-fits-all part made to 'fit' a dozen different stoves. He claimed the repair was safe, which is false since a stove that has an indicator light for burners is not 100% safe if that light does not work. He claimed the repair was functional, which is false since only part of what the dial does (the burner) is working while the other part (the indicator light) is not. This is not fully functional. St Helena Appliance suggests that since many stoves do not have indicator lights, this stove doesn't need one either (despite the fact that the manufacturer put one in). Eric's final answer to me was to take it up with the homeowner. He was polite to the end despite my obvious anger an the phone. I several times offered the company an opportunity to come do the job correctly, or to undo the job and offer the owner a refund. They continue to refuse. If that changes, I will happily edit my review. This job cost the homeowner about $148.00. And while I did not pay this, I am still the end user for the 'repaired' item and care about the work the owner has paid for as well about the quality and safety of the end result. I wish that St. Helena Appliance would do what is right and either come do the job correctly or undo it and offer a refund. At the very least they could have worked toward a solution or a compromise. Poor response to a bad repair job. Update: The correct part (that St. Helena Appliance said was not available) arrived Thursday after I ordered it online Monday. I installed it correctly in less than 10 minutes. It works perfectly, the indicator light works, and the knob is at the correct height. St. Helena Appliance gets zero credit for this and I'd give zero star on this review if I could. read more

I am really confused about this service. The technician was friendly, on time, and seemed to be ready to work. Then he told me the problem was not with my dryer but rather with the clogged dryer vent that goes to the exterior of the house which was something that they do not do. He told me to find a service that specializes in this type of vent cleaning and handed me a bill for $89 for the service call. He did open the door to the dryer and tested the 'draw" at the lint screen. When I mentioned that I had a previous dryer many years ago that had a thermostat that overheated, he removed a couple of screws from the control panel and said there was no problem there. (although he did try to sell me a knob, saying it had a small crack in it, totally unrelated to my issue) What he did NOT do was move the dryer away from the wall, where he would have discovered that the wall collar was missing entirely and he did NOT remove the top and front of the dryer to determine if there was any lint build up in the dryer itself. When the vent cleaning service came the next day, he discovered that there was indeed lint in my dryer, laid up against the blower motor (happy I did not have a fire) and more lint easily visible inside the drum in the back vent disc. He was the one who moved the dryer out from the wall, and found that the collar was missing. (this actually led to another problem with my furnace, another potentially dangerous situation that the first guy would have been able to alert me to if he had done his job.) My lesson came from the office person when I called to tell them I was unhappy with their service. She said they were entitled to keep the money for the service call because that was a diagnosis fee. Apparently, in their minds, the diagnosis does not need to be correct to warrant this $89 fee. read more

I made an appointment to have my refrigerator serviced (by St. Helena Appliance on McCormick St.). Although David, the service man, was running late on his appointments, he STILL came, to see what the problem with the refrigerator was, at 6:00 PM. And, he was as pleasant as could be. We wanted to get new kitchen appliances, and looking at the specs on the Viking web site, the measurements were very close. I wanted to make sure before we ordered anything. So we paid $35 for someone to come measure/inspect to ensure that everything would fit. It definitely was money well spent. We ordered a cook top, wall oven and a vent hood. When it came time to install, the wall oven was very problematic. There was a space on the right hand back corner that was intended for the flexible wiring to fit. However, the outlet was on the left side. About a couple of hours into the effort, Tom (owner) mentioned that "we may need to bring in a 3rd party". I told him that I had paid for them to come and make sure before I ordered. At that point, Tom said, "then we'll do everything we can to make it work". They ended up cutting out a portion of the 2x4 and routing the wiring there and using some cabinet space that I did not need. They ended up spending the whole day there and did a beautiful job. Tom was there pretty much the whole day, and he really had the right customer service attitude. read more

Prices were very competitive (both microwave and trim kit were less than Home Depot, and difference more than covered the installation cost). He knows what he's doing and has all the parts with him so things get fixed promptly. Just had our dryer repaired by St. Helena Appliance. The technician was just great, and took time to look at the washer and found a problem that needed a fix. Ordered the part, will arrange to come back. He even vacuumed-up the work area of the lint and dust that came out of the dryer. The repair bill was fair for the amount of work completed. Our elderly wash machine died earlier this week so we decided to replace the washer/dryer set. I looked at Costco online for a price comparison & then went to the St Helena Appliance show room to see what they had in stock. We wanted a very basic set & they had just what we needed. As I was talking with Brian Pope about a delivery date his boss said that they would be able to deliver it that same afternoon & they did. Jesse did a great job removing the old set & installing the new. He even removed the lint from the outside vent with a specialized tool. In addition, he repaired a refrigerator drawer panel & showed me how to adjust the temperature in a 2nd refrigerator. Thanks very much to all of you! read more

Call Saint Helena Appliance to have them check my Viking dishwasher. I asked and was told by Saint Helena Appliance that they are certified Viking repair shop. Service repair person came to the house and determined that my drain hose was cracked and leaking. After over 2 months and my 3 phone calls finding out the status of the new drain hose, it finally arrived. The repair technician had the attitude that he would rather be doing something else than replace the drain hose. The hose was replaced. First dish cycle we noticed the dishwasher was much louder than what we remember. By that time we have been without a dishwasher for over 3 months. The dishwasher started to make a grinding noise and soon stopped working. I had the dishwasher checked out by different Appliance repair shop who was designated by Viking as a certified repair shop. The repair technician quickly pointed out the build up of a "cement" like substance and that it can break off and cause damage. The technician went on to say that the dishwasher needed to be "soaked" to break down the "cement" before it ran through any dish cycles after the hose replacement. We weren't aware of the build up of this "cement" like substance. The St. Helena Appliance repair technician looked at the filters and said nothing to me about that issue nor recommended to soak the dishwasher before continuing with any dish cycles. At a repair cost of $368 to replace a cracked drain hose, I would have thought that the repair technician would have my best interests in mind. That appears to not be the case. The dishwasher was damaged beyond reasonable repair costs and so I had to replace the dishwasher. read more

Another BUYER BEWARE rating! This place does horrible business and has the worst customer service. We will never buy anything from here again and neither should you! The employees are very helpful and wonderful, especially Marc, however, the owner Tom is by far the rudest and most disrespectful person I have ever encountered. I bought a brand new Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer from St. Helena Appliance. Spent thousands of dollars and had nine repair visits within 10 months. The water dispenser turned on during the night and flooded my hardwood floors; ice machine dispensed ice when no one was in the room; large ice globes formed in my refrigerator, two motherboards blew out; the refrigerator drawer stopped working; the freezer stopped freezing and ruined all the food in it; the coils in the main refrigerator stopped cooling. As if all of this wasn't enough, I was treated as a disruption and inconvenience to St. Helena Appliance, with disrespect and rudeness that was beyond belief. Tom at St. Helena Appliance actually told me not to contact Whirlpool directly, but out of frustration after the fifth or sixth repair appointment, I did anyway. Whirlpool was wonderful and added another year to my warranty and told me I should have contacted them sooner. I was told by Whirlpool that all St. Helena Appliance needed to do was deem the machine "irreparable" and a new one would be issued. St. Helena Appliance did come and take my machine and bring me a loaner, with what I understood to be, a courtesy while waiting for my new refrigerator to come. When I called well over a week later to get the progress, Tom replied, "yea, thats not gonna happen". Nightmare is an understatement. Its one thing to have bought a lemon, its completely another level of horror to receive the poor treatment from a company that does not back their own product....... add complete disrespect and rudeness..... in my opinion its St. Helena Appliance. read more

i would give it a 6 or 10,if possible. try to imagine a local dealer who gives the same price as the local big box stores,but,every day,not just on sale days.i quit searching for " better deals ' online,when i found them very competitive,10 years ago. rather than try to sell me on a new dryer, the expert showed me how all we needed was a new thermostat. a reasonable price and maybe another 10 years of use,because no circuit boards are involved. they may all go up by 30 % soon. so glad we don't have any new need for a new dryer .what an honest and ethical local business. can't say enough about it. not paid to do so,really. just a big fan,so far. thanks much for getting our 10 year old to get a new lease on life. many thanks to john,specifically. we have so much respect for the great locals that help us every day here. i forgot to say ;'i love you ",to john and apologize for not saying it out loud. read more

I needed a new heating element for old GE oven and when I called, the gentlemen asked for the model number. I told him the oven had some mileage on it and the tag was worn and cannot make out the model number. He then told me that he cannot help me out with out it. I then asked if I could just bring in the broken element and go from there. He still insisted that he really needed the model number in order to help me out. I find it really hard that nothing could be done just because of a model number. So I went to APE ( appliance parts and equipment) in Santa Rosa. I called first and explained my situation to them and he told me to bring the broken heating element in and go from there. When I arrived it took less than 5 minutes to get a new heating element!! He didn't need the brand or model number to help me out. He compared the broken one to one of the hundreds he had in stock. Very great experience with APE. I would not consider using St. Helena appliance over APE from here on out. read more
