This is such a cute store. I am a year round Christmas ornament buyer and loved the selection here. Their decor was very unique with multiple upside down Christmas trees beautifully decorated inside from colorfully to dangling silvers and gold, like chandeliers. I found a cute denim apron with pockets that I've been looking for for years where the color didn't bleed. My daughter also found a funny toy gadget that makes interesting sounds, lettered napkins spelling out her name. Most shops located on Main Street in downtown St. Helena are crowded with 'stuff' that is overpriced even for a tourist town. It was a nice surprise to find this store chuck-a-block with interesting things (a 'go slow so you don't miss something' store as my friend calls places like this) with Napa Valley-ish prices but still not over the top given the quality. Splendidly well merchandised with things for home, many of which have a 'bring the outside inside' garden theme. Things for table top (dishware and things to tablescape), bath (luxurious soaps), book shelf (the book "Holy Shit" on the use of manure in gardening made me chuckle at the title), and kitchen (cookbooks and serving pieces) and more like fragrant candles and quality silk florals and even a weathervane. All this merchandise yet with enough room provided in the aisles ways that it is easy and fun to look at everything tucked here and there. Our visit was during the Chanukah and Christmas shopping season and I found some gift items for both. The hostess behind the counter was pleasant if cooly reserved. If you enter expecting "I'm glad you're shopping here" reception you may be disappointed. A number of things called out 'take me home' but my car was too full of wine to fit them in. Maybe next time. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: This is one of the few St. Helena stores that would be worth the hassle of parking downtown to make a repeat visit. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in and just enough room in the aisleways to be ADA compliant for wheelchair access. We went on our yearly trip to Napa and came across this store. What a great surprise when I walked inside to browse all the treasures inside the store. I was checking out with my purchases and saw this beautiful print of wings that were absolutely amazing. After asking about the artist and if the print was available for purchase, the cashier directed to me to where they were and I just had to have the larger print for my new home that I recently purchased. It was my lucky day as they were able to procure the large print 44"x 58", they packaged it in a cylinder for transportation ( as we were flying). Once we moved into our home I took the print to be framed and when I went to pick it up I had quite a few people wanting to know where I purchased it. I had originally posted this review on the wrong business! I am reposting here after coming back last weekend and buying more amazing gifts. This is like a store Nancy Meyers would create for one of her films. In fact, I think I'm going to write a screenplay, about a darling woman, who runs an absolutely perfect little shop, packed to the rafters with all manner of gifts, home decor, candles, lotions, garden and kitchen goodness, and so much more. I loved everything in here, and I love that if you were careful, you can find lots of great little gifts and not spend a million bucks. We got some cute little cocktail recipe books to take home to husbands. For our hosts, we bought something that seemed like a fun thing to leave at a house where you've been lucky to get to stay: dog bingo, where you can win by drawing the right dog breed cards. For my husband, the budding birdwatcher, we got bird bingo, which he absolutely loved. My mom got some candles and a few other little things. I was happy with the prices which seemed really reasonable to me as long as I didn't get carried away. Pam was absolutely darling, just like the store. She rang my mom and me up, and told us a little bit about her own mother, and her daughter. It was just such a nice little moment, the kind that puts the cherry on top of an already wonderful day of shopping on picturesque main street in the storybook village of St Helena. read more

The items in the store were nice, but the staff wasn't very friendly and we didn't feel welcome while we were there. My young daughter sat on one of the chairs and the lady from the store asked right away if her jacket was wet and said that they plan to sell those chairs. I get that it was raining outside, but her jacket was visibly dry. The lady continued to hover around my daughter as she sat there, so I just told my wife and daughter we should leave already. read more

Agree, love this store and everything in it, especially the high-quality and realistic dried flowers. Each time I find something that will add to the decor of our home. Experienced in flower arranging, the ladies have helped me on several occasions find just the right flower, vase or pot that ends up enhancing the decor in our home. Acres also creates and sells beautiful orchid arrangements. Tired of paying for live orchids that die...you'll love their potted orchids. They also carry a line of beautiful necklaces and ear rings and so much more. Acres prices are very reasonable. I always walk out of Acres with a bag of goodies. read more

having bought several expensive pottery pieces from this store over the past several years, i brought a friend in visiting from out of town. i waited in line at the counter for about 5 minutes to pay. i could see the person behind the counter was busy and waited patiently as i know many stores are short of hands these days. another worker (older, thinner, blonde) came out from the backroom and offered to help the the kind woman behind me. i spoke up and said that i was actually next in line. i find that as a person of color i am often passed-over in stores/restaurants because store personnel (perhaps unconsciously or uncomfortably) don't see me waiting in line or when i enter a store and instead ask the person behind me if they need help or offer them a hello when they walk in, but not me. having spent much of my life enduring this, i am used to speaking up. the person who didn't "see" me, instead of saying "i'm sorry, i didn't realize you weren't being helped," shrugged and said, "oh, well, whatever. i can help whoever." WOW. your mistake as the SALES person offering to be helpful in a store and this is how you respond? ok. i will never come back. you clearly don't care for my patronage. and there are plenty of other kind sales people at the other similar stores in this town that i happily give my money to. read more

Acres isn't your usual nurseries&gardening store. They have onsite embroidery, along with plenty of fake plants, jams, jellies, vinegars&olive oils. It's sort of like Williams Sonoma. They have friendly service, and they can even get embroidery done in an hour. They are attentive with their customers. As for a genuine nursery, there's Central Valley literally down the street. This is a cute boutique shop with all kinds of trinkets. They have handmade soaps, lotions, oils and candles. It's a very unique place to find cute gifts or just to look around. The shop is darling and the ladies are sweet. But the young man needs a lesson in retail 101, kindness and understanding. I took a picture of a cookbook with my phone because I thought it was cool, and wanted to remind myself later to buy it. He saw me (not that I was trying to hide it), gave me a look, and said "No pictures of cookbooks, due to the copyright." I apologized not once but twice. He then added, condescendingly, "You should always ASK a store employee before you take pictures, as a courtesy." Got it. Have a nice day. read more

I was so upset to call the owner Pat about a pitcher I bought the day before that leaked and she refused to give me a refund saying all she could do was store credit. When I got home, I had filled it with water and put in a bouquet of flowers. Ten minutes later, I went back in the room to find my table and floor covered in water. She said it was pottery and unglazed inside and would not hold water and I should have known that! It was glazed on the outside and I didn't realize I had to check a PITCHER to make sure it was glazed on the inside! I told her there was no information stating that on the pitcher and no one offered that info to me when I purchased it. If I see a pitcher, then I expect it to hold water unless other info is provided saying it is for decorative purposes only. I asked her for her help and to give an exception for a refund as I feel I was not given the right info when I bought it and it did not work as expected and she refused. I wanted my money back to buy a pitcher that actually holds water! They absolutely do not provide customer satisfaction or good info on their products. I am very upset as it was our anniversary and I wanted something pretty to put the big bunch of flowers my husband gave me as a memento of our celebration. Now, I only have negative feelings about this store and pitcher. I won't be returning. I told her I was going to write a review because I was upset and felt I was given a defective product and the owner said, with arrogance, that I had to do what my conscience was OK with. Well, my conscience is more than OK with writing this review. Is she OK with hers? read more
