I am an out-of-state buyer and bought a car at St Cloud Subaru intending to register it in Alaska, they said it couldn't be done. After proving there is a MN State process in place they finally admitted it could be done but they have CHOSEN not to do it as the paperwork was too difficult and the "cons" outweighed the pros for them. This cost me an additional $1500 in Minnesota state taxes and registration costs and I'm not even a resident. I had to register it a week later in my state! I spoke to the finance guy in the cities from another "Luther Subaru" and they had choice 4-letter words for the St Cloud location-said it made them all look bad. It's hard to believe they'd turn away a customer because "the paperwork" is too much of a hassle. Totally unimpressed. They also had to wait for the bank transfer to "clear" from USAA before we could take the car as they "have had problems with them". They estimated 7-10days. True to form from USAA, we were able to pick up the car the next day. Both my husband and I are retired Air Force with credit scores 800+ and have bought our last 3 cars in 1 day going through USAA. Bottom Line: St Cloud Subaru is LAME and I'm not sure the state of Minnesota would be happy the way they do business. read more

***UPDATED*** Buyer beware!!! Extended warranties you buy there on used vehicles start on the day the car was first sold to ORIGINAL owner not you..... no matter what they tell you at the dealership. They will try to sell it as 7 years from when YOU buy it. Now 5 years later I am needing to use the extended warranty I purchased for SEVEN years only to find out it was truly just for 5 years (and just recently expired). The sales person and finance manager sold it as a 7 year warranty from when I bought the car not when it was originally sold to first owner. $2,000 completely wasted. I never would have bought it if I knew that it's 7 years from when the car was sold to first owner not me. I will now go out of my way to tell everyone I know to not purchase a car there but ESPECIALLY the extended warranty. read more

I called and talked to Hector about a car that I was interested in, we set up an appointment for may 16th, told him I got approved for the loan for that car specifically and that I would be purchasing it when I came in on the 16th. Hector texted me the morning of the 16th asking if I was still coming in and that they sold the car I was coming in for. I proceeded to tell him I already bought insurance for it that they knew I was coming in for that car SPECIFICALLY. They didn't care and proceeded to blame me. Lack of transparency and communication. We had an amazing experience with the sales team. The prices beat every dealer in the Twin Cities area and the trade in experience was smooth. We were very happy with the whole process. We decided to purchase the GAP insurance. A few days later we found a much better price on the GAP and decided to cancel. I sent the dealer notification of our intent to cancel. Fast forward to three months later and no refund yet. During this time they have continually lied to us that the refund is "processed and should show up in a few weeks." I finally wrote the president of the dealership about the issue. He could not even reply to my email or give me a call. This proves the tone of the dealership from the top down. Sold me a car that had a recall from 2016. They knew it had a problem with the transmission but they did not tell me. I bought a 2016 Chevrolet Cameroon in 2018, it had a recall for the transmission since 2016. Latest date to change the transmission was in June 2018, they didn't tell me. The Sales staff is always friendly and helpful and ready to go the mile. Buying cars is always painful, the paperwork is a killer, But they know us and know I hate paperwork, they do everything they can to get us in and out. They dont hound you looking at cars, they ask to help and if you say just looking, they respect that your looking and let you, but are close engough to assist you if needed. Asad was friendly, open and honest from when we walked in. He gave us the keys to the car and let us test it out, without coming with us, or copying our licenses or telling us to be back in a few minutes. While other salespeople we had dealt with were pushy, fake, or dishonest, Asad was fantastic to work with and I felt happy and confident buying the car with him. I had financing arranged with my credit union but Asad gave us a better deal than I had been offered and he explained it in an easy to understand way. I am on day 6 with my 2014 Crosstrek and it is amazing on snow, not an suv but not a wagon. Needed a 30,000 mile service. Couldn't get in for nearly 6 weeks, no loaner car and I live 10 miles from dealership. Was told it would take about 2 and a half hours or so to complete and that they would shuttle me to my place. It is now 5 hours and no car. Called and they had no one handy to bring m car at the moment. About 20 minutes later they were in my driveway and I had to stop what I was doing and drive her back to the dealership. The very least they could have done was wash the car. Instead they thanked me for my patience and gave me an extra free car wash to be redeemed at Kwik Trip across the street. Can't help but wonder how many customers who waited for their cars to be serviced had to wait. Am thinking I will be taking my business elsewhere and my next car won't be a Subaru. read more

Love my car, really dislike the dealer. Their service/maintenance center stinks. They are polite but if they don't want to do something they won't. Or they will change their quote by padding service hours to make the price soooo high that you give up and leave. That happened to me today. A 30minute job was changed to a 2+ hour job once they decided they didn't want to do it. The job? Installing an accessory jack in their stock radio. A $60 part and 30 minutes changed to well over $200 labor, that's nuts. I drove away. Stopped going there for normal service because of this crap. Lesson learned once again. read more

Seems like at cloud Subaru doesn't value customer service. I made an appointment for warranty work and told the person I would need a car while mine was in the shop. Dropped off my car and they didn't have a car for me, so they had to scramble to find one. About 30 minutes after I left I got a call from one of their sales guys telling me that they are starting to see more older cars come in and I should buy a new 2020 model. Firstly just because my car isn't new doesn't make it old it still works fine and secondly you can keep your predatory sales practices to yourself. They told me the work would take 3-4 hours it took 5 hours. They didn't bother to put my dash back together, left wires hanging out and marked up my dash panels. All together not what I would call good customer service. read more

He had to go to St Cloud for another errand so I told him to stop by these guys to see if they could help at all. now I'm no expert in what different dealerships charge however he was told they would need the other remote & the total cost would be around 1000.00 . He laughed it off & left called me back gave me the info so I went on a hunt. I called several dealerships near me both Subaru and others just to get an idea of pricing. NONE of them said anything about needing the other remote. and ALL of them came in under 300.00 for BOTH the remote and reprogramming. Chayton was my salesman and he was exactly what I wanted. He asked good questions, listened to what I had to say, and was very knowledgeable. This place gets one star because you can't give them zero. It took 27 days for them to have my car fixed by another dealership because they did not know what they were doing. Worst customer service I have ever received. The cashier raised his voice and dropped the word "f*cking" while on the phone with me. The service dept lied to me about making repairs on my car and just cleared the code instead of fixing the problem. Our first experience was disappointing and unfortunately they failed us a second time.About a 1.5 ago we bought our Suv from Subaru and instantly we had problems. The service department was rude and unprofessional on the phone and wouldn't even empathize with us as a customer. When we called on a quote on a part they were charging $200 more than two other shops we called. Then after repairing a few bad parts an even bigger issue was noted that the engine was bad. Of course this was not covered by the additional warranty we added. They tried to work with us by taking the vehicle back on trade for an even more expensive SUV. I understand we both lost money but in the end we are losing more. Less than 4 months later the second vehicle had a sound in the engine we had noted before even buying turns out to be a significant issue that will cost a couple grand to repair. The fact that their mechanic told us it's nothing and he'd sell this car to his mother will forever ring in my ears. We contacted them but this time we were reminded that this sometimes happens when you buy used. No typically this is not the case but only when you buy used from St. Cloud Subaru. While it'd be nice to have it fixed we are only trusting it with qualified mechanics from here on out. Never written a car dealership review but let's start with my goal. GOAL: Buy Subaru Outback with heated seats at the cheapest price. I figured we'd have to do some work for it but I thought the work would be negotiating with a pushy sales person. I was waaaaay off. The easiest part for me was working with Jake, Bobby, and Logan at St. Cloud Subaru. The hardest part was figuring out that St. Cloud Subaru (1.5 hours away from home!) would be the place to find my new car. We shopped around quite a bit at a few Subaru dealers within 2 hours of the cities and mostly worked on-line and electronically until we trimmed our list down to two. Things we were surprised by: 1. The amazing job that St. Cloud did. They came in with a competitive price and then worked with us to lower the price even more. I wasn't thrilled at driving an hour and a half each way to pick up the car but the negotiations were very friendly and went well. (They ended up a couple hundred over the Walser price but they were quite sure on what they were selling us....in included additional amenities over the Walser vehicle...how many additional amenities, I'll never know because I doubt Walser knows.) Logan and Jake very efficiently and thoroughly went through the paperwork and never came off pushy. Jake went above and beyond and showed us how to use some of the toys. (Like the bluetooth....twice.) We didn't get the cheapest price, we were close but the $200 gave us peace of mind that we knew exactly what we were driving to get. (And it did have more of the toys than what Walser was offering.) Goal accomplished! 2. Half of the dealers didn't get back to us...really, couldn't even shoot at email to say they were interested in selling us a car or otherwise send us someone to contact. 3. The second most expensive quote came from White Bear Subaru ("WBS") in our backyard. The surprise is that in the email response to our offer, WBS implied they were insulted by our initial offer which was actually a few hundred dollars less than the unnegotiated cheapest on-line price (Walser). White Bear Subaru went ballistic and stated the on-line price was not legitimate and that they wouldn't sell us a car for $1000 dollars more than our offer. They also very surprisingly told us to not come in again (we test drove here). For the record, our final price from St. Cloud, with additional amenities, still came in below the quote plus $1000. Not sure how WSB comes up with prices but they are far from competitive. 4. Walser, who had the cheapest price actually has no idea what they have on their lot. After working with two different people, we were told by both they didn't have our vehicle. We actually had to help them locate the vehicles on their own website...twice! We were then told once that the vehicle had everything we were looking for and once that the vehicle had only 1/2 of the all weather package. (Is it possible to buy 1/2 a package???!) Despite having the cheapest price, the lack on knowledge created a sense of shadiness which worried us that Walser wasn't actually going to get us what we were looking for. read more

I purchased a brand new Subaru WRX on 12/30/13 at St Cloud Subaru. I traded in another Subaru and the salesman I worked with was actually quite good (Asad). No pressure, prices were upfront and honest. The rest of the experience, however was very frustrating. I waited almost five hours at the dealer while they put winter tires on my new car (swapped from the old car). Which was considerably longer than they told me I would wait (1.5 hours). I ended up missing an important work meeting, and to make matters worse, they claimed a TPMS tire sensor on my trade-in was bad (this was after all the paperwork was completed for the new car and trade-in) and the service manager was adamant that I pay for the part? At this point I just wanted to get to my meeting so I paid the money (and it still took another 2 hours after this). I should have done my homework. The part they charged me for was actually much cheaper on their own eparts store on their website and I did not realize this until after the fact. Considering I just spent close to $30K on a brand new car at their dealership, this seems like a lowball tactic. I will never take my Subaru to this dealership for any service work, and this is most likely my last Subaru purchased at St Cloud Subaru. Lucky for me there are numerous other Subaru dealers near me where I have had better experiences and will ensure they get my money in the future. read more

I wouldn't recommend servicing your vehicle at this place unless it's free. After having them check my headlight ballast to confirm it was bad, they tried to charge me $159 rather than the $50 we agreed with on the phone. Then they told me they would want an additional $695 in parts and labor to replace the ballast and additionally my windshield washer fluid pump. There wasn't a chance in hell I was going to pay that so I brought it to a local shop who told me it was just a bad fuse. And everything said and done charged me $113. We just bought our 4th new Subaru. They are great cars! No doubt there are more in our future. The first two were purchased from two different dealerships in the Twin Cities. The most recent two came from St. Cloud Subaru. Bobby, Jacob, and Trevor are three of the most responsive sales people I've ever dealt with. Of course they were friendly and professional; this describes nearly all auto sales people. The sales manager, Bobby Konnight, and his team are exceptional in so many other ways too. They are why I drove from a south suburb of Minneapolis to St. Cloud for my last two Subaru purchases. I thought I would give a local Minneapolis dealer another chance. Just like the last time I tried to buy from a different local dealer it was too frustrating to close the deal. The only thing I detest more than old school, Neanderthal sales tactics is having my time wasted which is a Neanderthal sales tactic (take control and be in charge of the sales process). I called the sales manager of a Twin Cities dealer, told him I wanted to buy a new Subaru and preferred to make an appointment for 7 pm so I wouldn't need to wait. He said I didn't need an appointment, just come in and ask for him. When I arrived he passed me off to another very nice sales person that said she would be with me in just a few minutes. At least 20 minutes later she got my wife and I into a new Outback for a test drive on our own because she had something else to finish up. We agreed that I would leave our trade-in with her so someone could evaluate it while we were taking a test drive specifically stating that I didn't want to wait on someone do this later. We returned from our test drive and waited the better part of another hour before anyone took a look at our trade-in. The sales person was so nice as she asked us about our favorite color and other things I had no desire to waste time discussing (she was doing her best to kill time while we waited to have our trade-in evaluated). I tried to buy a new car from them and they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. For the 2nd time it was a totally different and infinitely better experience with Bobby and the crew at St. Cloud Subaru. I called him and made an appointment for the next day. Bobby also had other demands on his time but he had two other people, Jacob and Trevor, ready to help him and us through the entire process. We were never alone or wasted a minute of our time as they seamlessly passed off to one another. It was like having the whole crew dedicated to us. We were dealing with the right person at the right time and in little more than an hour were on our way back home in our new Outback. This is less time than we spent waiting on people to help us at the local dealer. The price was very competitive but the difference was not enough to warrant driving by local dealerships to do business with them. I went to Subaru to get an inspection on my car and I'm not have with the service and parts deoartment. It was a waste of my time and a waste of gas. First off: I had to schedule an appointment which I did a week before and the guy told me to come in a little bit before eight and they could get me in, when I asked how much it would be for the inspection he bypassed the question and didn't give me an answer so I thought okay, it's either free or it won't cost too much. Well when i went in they told me that my name wasn't in the system and that they couldn't get me in for just an INSPECTION which would take them ten minuets to do until and another hour and a half. I said okay well let me call someone to come pick me up. Second: before I signed the papers I asked if it was free and if not how much will it cost, The manager I'm assuming said it would be about 50$ thats a really high price for an inspection and when I told him I wasn't going to do it then he didn't even try and stop from walking out the door or knocking the price down at all, I could go to any other place and get an inspection for under 20$. I Understand that they have to pay their workers, but come on....50$ for just an inspection. Are you guys nuts? I will never spend my money or time there again. My boyfriend also said that in order for him to go there again that they had to give him the 04' silver sti sitting out front which will never happen either lol but all in all that was the worst experiance I have ever had to get my car fixed. Buyer Beware!! Negotiated a cash deal on a certified pre-owned Subaru Outback and provided $1000 deposit for delivery on following Tuesday. Received a phone call from dealership on Monday morning stating that they 'decided that they could not sell the vehicle for the negotiated price". We had a deal, you accepted the deposit, now you want to back out and ask more money. Perhaps you should have thought about that BEFORE you accepted the deal.
