This place is the worst. I'm currently sitting in the ER and have been for hours. I'm vomiting blood. Pooing blood. Feel dizzy as all get out and I'm just sitting here. The nurse in the admission area is bad as well. Tom. Mr know it all. Careless and he decides weather or not your serious. The guy doesn't even know how to use a computer. I found him ignorant and in helpful. All he said is that I'm a triage nurse and I have seen this that and the other thing and basically wrote me off. I came here a week ago to get treated and left because I i sat for hours. As I sit here now a guy left because he was in the airing room for 3 hours. Seriously? I left last time because they put me in bed and did nothing. Never saw a doc and the nurses were useless. They just are useless. I feel like I'm dying and there talking about funny things and how there life is this and that. While they were planning for there weekend patients were just miserable. I hate this operation and management needs to get off there ass and do something about it. read more

I recently had an experience with a Hospital that clearly shows they are playing the system. In Short, I asked for estimates prior to the surgery. Here is a Summary..... There were 3 service providers. Each provides an estimate a day or 2 before the surgery: Bend Memorial Clinic (The Surgeon) Estimate $2,100.00 Billed $1,352.67 (Good) Bend Anest Group Estimate $1,200.00 Billed $1,023.00 (Good) St. Charles Medical Center Estimate $3,000.00 Billed $15,702.76 (Not Good) Regardless of who pays for it (Insurance or me) I felt the cost of this 90 minute or less outpatient procedure was justified at the estimate of $6,300.00. All the estimates were asked for and received 1 to 2 days prior to the surgery. The problem here is just St Charles Medical Center, The other 2 were on their estimate. The question I asked St. Charles when I made the call (Using a number given to me by the surgeon's staff) was "How much would I have to pay you if I had no insurance?" I wanted to know the full cost of the procedure. At that point had they said $15,700.00 I would have killed the entire procedure there and gone with one of the cheaper alternatives I found on the internet. But I was not given that opportunity. One of either 2 scenarios happened. Either St Charles lied to me to get my business OR they intentionally overcharge the insurance companies, i.e. patient has no insurance it is $3,000 (the actual estimate was "Somewhere between $2,000 and $3,000) if the patient does have insurance milk the insurance company for as much as you can, in this case $15,700). read more

Filthy. That is what I have to say about the Bend St. Charles e.d. The floors in the exam room were sticky and dirty. Trash can piled to the rim with gloves and garbage. A "clean" pillow and sheet sitting on the dirty floor. Yellow stains on the sheet on the bed I was examined on. Most public restrooms are cleaner. Hard to believe anyone can get out of there without being sicker or getting an infection. The doctors and nurses were kind and seems to care about their patients, but I don't understand how they can work in such a dirty place. For one of the most expensive hospitals in Oregon it is completely unacceptable. read more

We have been to this ER many times in the past 22 years . Today's visit was outstanding! The staff was all very attentive and fast to get pain under control . The ER was full but they where fast and well staffed very impressive we where seen in less then 10minutes . Dr.Vraniak was informative of the steps that would be taken for treatment and answered questions we had. The nurses where compassionate to the pain my husband was in and kept checking to get pain under control . All the staff was friendly from the the blood work to the CT technician to the staff that transports . Well done St Charles ! This ER visit was a good experience under the circumstances I'm hoping the staff keep up with this quality of care . read more

2 stars because Room service rocked my RN Travis rocks. and my sergeant dr pang all did great. The recovery area was worse place ever rude staff they dont care and it showed. Had leg pressure cuffs on for over 10 hours after not even connected to anything. I'm grateful for my Sergey but that is not enough alone ro give this place any more stars. I was 9n 3rd floor had a back Sergey done. Oo and the hospital after Sergey didn't give me anything to help with pain other then what I was prescribed before Sergey. Same dose and that was part my issue for first 12 hours after my RN Travis was very good with communication and letting me know what was going to happen next even with time frames. read more

We went because my husband was having breathing problems, while I understand they get busy, I was absolutely disgusted tonight two hours later and a packed emergency room and not one person gets called back, we were the 4th people to just walk out I had to beg him to go in the first place and we get this experience. A mom not able to wake her baby girl up even left to seek other care. Next time I'll gladly go anywhere but here. It's sad people have to suffer because they can't better staff themselves or whatever the issue was here I don't know but never AGAIN! Now I wish we had another hospital. read more

Please understand that this review is directed at the St. Charles Hospital ER in Redmond only. We are the parents of a 51 year old combat veteran who has a 100% VA disability rating for PTSD. In the past year she has had to have both of her hips replaced, and has developed complications with both. It has been necessary for us to take her to the ER for severe pain issues. We live in Redmond, so it is considerably more convenient to go to the Redmond ER. This happened twice with her first surgery, and now twice with her second. The latest visit was today. It is absolutely astounding to us that after so many reviews citing the rudeness of many, but not all, caretakers at the Redmond ER, there has apparently been no effort to instill any kind of appropriate patient respect. This is especially true for the primary doctor. During her initial ER visit after her first hip replacement, this doctor came to the conclusion that our daughter was exhibiting pain seeking behavior, which is patently untrue. She has been staying with us and we monitor her medications. However, because this doctor made it abundantly clear in his chart notes that it was his belief that there was nothing wrong with her except the desire for painkillers, now in the unfortunate circumstances when we have had to take her back to the ER in Redmond, her treatment begins with the presumption that she is merely seeking drugs. So, despite the fact that our daughter has been in severe pain during her ER visits, she has repeatedly been the subject of disparaging and demeaning remarks. Each and every time she has left the ER so emotionally and mentally traumatized, that it becomes very difficult for us to calm her down. Today, was the final straw. After spending from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm in the Redmond ER, where the primary treatment provided was IV's, she was discharged after finally seeing an internist, who told her that her symptoms were caused by withdrawal from either alcohol or drugs. UNBELIEVABLE. Our daughter did have an alcohol problem after leaving the service, but we know from personal contact and experience that she has been sober for 8 years, and the only pain medication she has been seeking is what her primary doctor has advised her to take. So, as mentioned above, we are furious at the staff who have ignored their oath "to do no harm" and instead left our daughter in a worse condition than when she came to them. It is outrageous that a combat veteran with the honors and accomplishments she has been associated with on behalf of her country can be treated so shabbily. Not only is the staff at the Redmond ER questioning her credibility and honesty, but they are also suggesting that we, as her parents. are complicit in her efforts to illicitly obtain pain medications. In fact, the internist was as condescending to her mother as he was to our daughter. Enough. If you can't treat a combat veteran with the deserved respect she is entitled to, one can only imagine how this staff treats other people. We will never take her back to the Redmond ER even though it is much closer. We will now go to the St. Charles Bend ER, and strongly recommend that people avoid the St. Charles Redmond ER at all costs. read more

St. Charles Medical Center - I will revise this rating once you start sending bills stating what you're charging us for. Time after time I get bills from some of your affiliates and have no idea what the charges are for. Labs? Who knows?? It is not easy to call and find out what these charges are about either. I've tried to find out, but get redirected and have to get called back at a later time. Why isn't this information made known to those paying the bills? My latest bill has a charge that states "total charges" and that's it. Please do this simple fix! read more

Go to he ER here if you want to be judged, treated like a child, and unheard. What kind of ER doctor walks in, tells you have H. pylori, says it can go away on its own in 2-3 Days, then tells you to go to your primary care for antibiotics?!? To the doctor who was in school for 10 Years, H. pylori is often cured with 2 antibiotics, it doesn't go away. You should know that. Obviously the ones they employ there don't. This is a one star because I couldn't post 0 stars. On Christmas Eve late afternoon we brought our 20 year old 5 month pregnant daughter whose baby developed hydrops fetalis to St. Charles ER in Bend Oregon. She was told by her OB doctor the baby was dying. She couldn't find a heartbeat so she became manic and suicidal thus causing us to bring her in. She met with the ER physician and when she asked for an ultrasound he told her it didn't matter. He went on to tell her babies die all the time. It was JUST a clump of cells. Meanwhile we were "interviewed" by one of the most callus accusing "social workers" I have ever met. She made it clear when she entered the waiting room that she wasn't the least bit interested in our concerns. We told her how our daughter had written a journal depicting that she would kill herself as soon as the baby died. Our family was devastated not only by the loss of our grandson but also the fear our daughter would die as well. On December 24th our daughter was told by the ER her baby was indeed dead. She was sent over to Sage view for the night on suicide watch. On December 26 we took her to St Charles birthing Center to be induced. EVERY nurse she had during her stay was kind and genuinely concerned. She delivered her dead baby boy on December 27th at 3:24 a.m. On December 27th a psychiatrist barged into her room 170 accompanied by the nasty social worker we met Christmas Eve. He coldly asked her if she was ok as she cradled her dead baby in her arms sobbing. He exited the room shook my hand and said she's fine. Wow. There are three employees you should really check up on. The ER doctor, the social worker, and the psychiatrist all of whom interacted horribly with our family. James, Marty, and Courtney Brown. read more

We took my mother here for a procedure. They prepped her and then did not have the lab results for the last three months they wanted. She waited in a prepared state for about 3 hours while they ran another lab test. They got the results and decided not to do the procedure. Obviously there failed miserably in the preparation. She should have never been admitted if the were not prepared. If you read the State's report from 2017 you can see the hospital was written up for lack of procedures, lack of proof of training and many other violations. I am like a previous review, the only reason they got a 1 is that I could not give them a 0. You can also go online and read the terrible things their employees say about them. read more

I worked in registration in the ED in Redmond where a male volunteer continually touched us, hugged us, it bothered me a lot,. I went to a supervisor 3 times and said it needed to stop, and got the reply of oh he's nice. Nothing was ever done. Another sexual harassment swept under the table. It still bothers me when I think of it. read more

Among several issues regarding an emergency appendectomy, one of the worst situations has been dealing with the BILLING department. The communication between the insurance company and billing has been terrible. To start, records were incorrectly inputted by the hospital (said the surgery was elective), which we are still trying to fix after 1 year. (1 year!). The insurance company has records of everything that has been discussed, paperwork, etc. St Charles Billing Dept doesn't keep any records, and does not remember anything, so we continue to receive bills for items that are incorrect. After 1 year, we are literally still trying to resolve billing issues! There is no other place to go to in Central Oregon. But, it's so bad, I would consider not going to the hospital for a physical issue, to save myself from the mental and potential credit issues cased by St Charles Health System. After reading other reviews, it can be seen that many people have had similar issues. As a business, I would hope they have a consumer feedback loop in place to ensure they evolve their practice. read more

Dr Ryan Peterson has the absolute worse bed side manners out if anyone I have ever met. It surprises me he is able to be a doctor. He was EXTREMELY rude and short. It was disturbing to see they way he speaks to and treats its patient. I will not go back to Bend hospital and risk being treated by him again. He basically kicked me out when I asked if there were any more tests to be done to figure out the issue. I just sat there shocked and then left. This review is for the Emergency Room only at St Charles in Bend, and does not involve doctors and nurses in other areas of the facility because I have received excellent care from them in the past... It wasn't that many years ago that St Charles was a very highly regarded and respected facility, that attracted the best people. I don't know what has happened but that is certainly not the case anymore... I have been into the E.R several times over the last few years, and out of all of those visits, I can only think of one that doesn't deserve zero stars, and my visit yesterday was no exception. I went in a few weeks ago for severe leg pain and because I had a cough and just didn't feel good. After my visit I continued to feel worse and out of desperation I went back in yesterday because my wife and I both thought I really needed to be admitted but that was a complete waste of time... The doctor I had yesterday was Dr. Wurlitzer, and I truly felt like I was bothering her by being in there. The visit started with a few questions, and then she proceeded to basically chew me out, and accuse me of not taking the nerve medication I was prescribed on my previous visit correctly, and she told me if I wasn't taking the medication correctly there wasn't much she could do. I informed her I took the medication EXACTLY as the prescription stated on the bottle, AND how the doctor explained it when he prescribed it. She informed me that that wasn't right... She then asked if I was taking any NSAIDS for pain and I told her no. I'm not supposed to take them and she sarcastically said, why not ? I told her because I spent three days in THEIR hospital with bleeding ulcers. Seriously ? It's very clearly in my chart, NO NSAIDS and the reason why I'm not supposed to have them... I listened while I was waiting in my bed, and apparently the nurses and doctors are to busy sitting around talking and laughing to actually do their job. This really makes patients feel like they are concerned about them. This is supposed to be a medical facility, not a place to sit around and chit chat with your coworkers... After the nurse was finally able to get an I.V in place, he came in and started an injection. I asked what it was and he said Toradol for pain. Really ? It's an NSAID, and I've told them before it does absolutely nothing for me. I guess some of the doctors and nurses think that patients are complete idiots... I could go on but needless to say, I left just as miserable as when I went in, with no plan in place. Fortunately for me, I do have an absolutely incredible primary care physician that truly cares about her patients... As if this hadn't already been enough, I had to ask the nurse that was discharging me to push me out in a wheel chair because I was having trouble walking, and on the way out I told her I needed to go to the rest room quickly before leaving. So she parked the wheel chair by the door and when I came back about about a minute later, the wheel chair was still there but the nurse was nowhere to be seen, so I sat in the wheel chair and waited, but she didn't return. You can't move these chairs by yourself, they have to be pushed, so as I grew more frustrated, I got up and very slowly walked out. I have relatives that live in Redmond and they have been to the St. Charles E.R there and have been happy. They have talked to a couple different nurses who work at the Redmond E.R, but live in Bend, and when asked why they don't work in Bend instead because it would be closer, they were told that there is no way they would ever work at the Bend E.R because the moral and patient care is absolutely terrible. They would rather drive further... That's really bad. Looking at many of the other reviews, it's very clear I'm not the only one that is not happy with this place. I would think the CEO and others would be very concerned about getting this much negative feedback, but apparently they aren't. People with far more serious issues than mine have died at this facility because of what reportedly should have been a very simple diagnosis. Fortunately for some who were still very sick after visiting this E.R, they went to facilities in other cities and received the proper diagnosis and treatment. That should be an embarrassment and concern to everyone who works here... They really need to reassess their priorities and start worrying about patient care instead of adding more facilities, and looking good on the outside, because what goes on inside is an absolute joke, and a complete embarrassment to the city of Bend. read more

St. Charles is the only hospital in the Central Oregon area. You have no choice but to use them in an emergency. They take full advantage of the system. Over charge, inadequate care, and if you have an emergency and need to come expect hours of waiting. They don't care about treating patients, they care about making money. If only Central Oregon would get big enough to bring in Kaiser Permanente or any other hospital group so that St. Charles would no longer have a monopoly on the system. read more

We took our 7 year old son to the ER last night after a fall and losing consciousness. He was exhibiting signs of a concussion (loss of memory, confusion). We called COPA and they urged us to go to the ER, since he may need a scan. We waited for 2 hours. They took back obvious less urgent cases. He has a head injury with loss of consciousness!!! Don't you think you might want to examine him? Make sure he doesn't have a scull fracture or something worse. No we will let a little boy sit in pain in the waiting room with a head injury. That's what we do. We left and kept him under observation ourselves. We had to keep waking him up through out the night since we had no reassurance that his head was ok. Today I'll take him to a qualified medical facility. read more

My son was brought here after a crash on Mt. Bachelor and has received the best care from the time he arrived until he was discharged four days later. The staff is amazing, kind and generous. I can't stop telling people how wonderful this place is. read more

I would have given more stars, but, as a rule they treat chronic pain patients as if they are drug-seekers. Last night I had extreme pain, and was treated kindly. I understand that there ARE those who are abusing pain meds and go to ER for a 'fix'. I have well documented reasons for sudden and extreme pain, but still get treated like a junkie. read more

The nurses are extremely rude and look like they're on drugs. Nurse Rebecca ripped the IV out the opposite way it was put in and it started gushing blood. Her response "you'll be okay". Dr. Reed, Nurse Jackie at check in, Bentley, and support staff were awesome. Their bedside manner was awesome, they were caring and supportive and helpful. Jackie is very professional even when she was dealing with difficult patients who were rude to her. It's important to recognize people who are often not appreciated, getting yelled at by unhappy ER patients. They don't have to be nice, but they are. read more

St. Charles is a terrible hospital. The only reason I gave it two stars is the medical staff is nice, but beware, St. Charles is a bunch of blood suckers who will order tests and procedures without your knowledge or consent, and regardless of whether your insurance will pay. You could be liable for thousands of dollars of bills that they will hound you to the end of the earth for. You will receive bills for things you aren't even sure you received. At can't imagine any hospital being worse than St. Charles. My family and I have had a number of visits to this place for childbirths, injuries, medical emergencies, surgeries etc. We have also had multiple experiences at numerous different hospitals in the Portland area. Comparing any of these with St. Charles makes St. Charles look more like a prison or 3rd world facility. From my first son never being cleaned after birth, and them refusing to clean him because his chart said someone cleaned him already, despite visible crustiness; to fat lips and chipped teeth from violent intubation; to unchanged bedding with blood, lazy nurses, extremely long waits due to understaffing, lack of caring, compassion, and effort. I could go on and on. I am a very reasonable person and do not like putting people out, I only wish for bare minimum and necessities to be taken care of. In Portland hospitals I am always telling the nurses to relax. They are constantly asking how they can help make you more comfortable, ice water, juice, blankets, something to eat... at a very recent stay at Satan Charles, my wife had to constantly beg for Tylenol, warm blankets to ease surgery pain, and water. She was in severe pain and nobody cared. They even recently killed a patient because nobody hooked the heart patient to heart monitoring and then they gave her the wrong medicine. This place is a hell hole, I will be travelling to Portland from now on for everything, even ER visits because the wait is almost always long enough to make the drive to Portland and recieve amazing care. Please save yourself and family the misery of this place and possibly save their lives by not going here. If there is any possibility of going somewhere else I would make sure and do so. read more

The women's health clinic is very welcoming. The staff is courteous. Wait was short and clinic was clean and bright. Saw Dr. Erin Hill who is new to the practice. She was very knowledgeable and patient in answering all of my questions. Great work! I'd definitely recommend this clinic. read more

I've been to St Charles ER a couple of times since I moved to bend. Every time I've gone the wait times have been an hour or more and for someone in pain it is horrible. But most of the time when I've gotten a room the doctors are very professional and do what they can to help you. Unfortunately the last time I went the waiting room was crazy and there were a lot of people. That's fine people get sick or injured. But the wait was like 3+ hours and we kept being pulled to talk to different people who didn't give us any information. Then when we finally got a room the doctor came in told me I had a uti and he was going to give me a antibiotic. I asked Him about what I should do about the extreme pain he gave me Tylenol and aleve which was something I could have just done at home and all in all I was only in the room for 20 minuets and honestly I'm pissed. The Tylenol and aleve are not strong enough for my pain and I'm even worse than I was when I came in. Honestly I feel like st Charles is the worst hospital I've ever been to and it seems they don't really care about the people they're treating. read more

The Dr. at the ER was rude, calloused and disrespectful. My physician sent a letter explaining what she thought might be needed to be done along with my lab work. My history with St. Charles is lengthy, over 30 years. Around 2000 the place was taken over by new managment. Since then it has been in steady decline in every area except facilities. In the last year i was blessed with a son delivered there. My girlfriend has a rare but well documented health problem (not diagnosed at St. Charles), between the 2 i have been there 12 times in the last 18 months. 2 were positive experiances, a birth that had no complications and the removal of my then pregnant girlfriends kidney stone(which had been misdiagnosed for 4 months). Incompetence, rude staff, obvious misdiagnoses, and terrible treatment are the norm. This place had the worst doctors and staff on the west coast. They are the only medical game in town but they still feel the need to spend massive quanities of money on radio and television ads telling everyone how great they are. It is a hospital in a death spiral. read more

I cut my thumb severely on Xmas morning and came in for medical care. I received 7 stitches, and was in and out in a couple hours. Due to the simplicity of the procedure, imagine my surprise at receiving an $800 bill in the mail AFTER my insurance paid its share. The Doctors and RN were very compassionate and supportive to my wife as well. I and my wife could write a very long thank you to each and everyone by name as my wife wrote them all down. Moves like molasses! My mother has stage 4 adenocarcinoma and we had to take her to the hospital ER 5/6/16 due to dehydration and inability to keep food down. We found out she had an obstruction in the small bowel that began ~4 days prior. She was admitted around midnight with one bag of fluids in the ER. We thought she was in good hands so went home. When we returned around 7 AM in the morning she was in pain, the IV was unhooked and she reported she was not given any pain meds since prior to admittance; the disappointing thing that topped things off was that she reported multiple requests for fluids and pain meds throughout the night and was told there were no orders! They took another 2 hours to get those orders! The next fun experience was the NG tube which they insisted it didn't need numbing or lube! I am sorry but in my residency we provided both even if the pt was sedated! The issues continued but got better, however it required us to take a hands on approach and not leave my mother alone for the next couple of days. She got better, was discharged on 5/10. Today 5/13/16 we had to return for the same issue. This time they proved them selves just as incompetent! They put in another NG tube again with no anesthetic and had to be asked for lube. Evidently when she was transferred out of the ER to the 4th floor they never put in orders for anything else associated with this devise aka it wasn't hooked up to the vacuum to decompress the stomach. I know the nurses want to help but maybe the doctors need to start doing their job! When I finally let loose that the doctor needs to do their job and I proceeded to tell the nurse what I was seeing as wrong she quickly contacted the doctor for the orders. When she returned I was told the doctor would be here by 8 PM which is in 5 hours! For the the price there should be a MD or 2 in each department of each floor! I had heard of these stories but just put them off as a random occurrence! Well as they say "the chances it will happen are low but when it happens to you its 100%"! **Update**11/2017*** Evidently the hospital doesn't check on or follow up on their reviews as no one has contacted me or my family to discuss the concerns posted online or from the written complaint left with staff to be provided to those in charge! I have spoke numerous times to nurses and doctors and they still seem to think that holding a sick woman down and forcing a tube down her nose when she screams that it hurts is ok! If you care for yourself or your loved one go somewhere else as the caring factor just isn't there! It's all about the money!!! I have since had to have my daughter delivered on 9/11/17 at st Charles and I can't say enough good things about Dr Carlson! However once born and stabilized it was like we were by ourselves! So much by ourselves that we left in 24 hours as we felt we could care for ourselves better at home! We could have walked out the front door without discharge instructions very easily! In fact the discharge instructions were given to my wife while I loaded the car! She remembered almost nothing from the instructions and the written forms said very little! I have tried several specialist at St. Charles Medical Center and I am disappointed with the care. I feel my medical conditions cannot be treated in Bend, and That the only option for quality medical care is for me to drive to Portland. This is unacceptable for a booming city such as Bend. I wish I could remember the male doctors name who "helped" me.. Well no, he actually rolled his eyes at my answers to his questions, accused me of lying, and was overall completely disrespectful. The nurses weren't too nice either. Mostly Know it all inconsiderate people who work here. read more
