I had to go to the emergency room last night for a serious medical issue. I arrived by ambulance and was met at the door by an amazing crew of caring staff. They had me triaged and a plan of care in place in less than a minute. Tests were completed and it was determined I would be admitted. The excellent care continued from the doctors, nurses and staff. Tests continued throughout the night and every effort was made to make sure I was comfortable. In addition, they treated my family with respect and assured that they were also comfortable and communicated with regularly. Testing continued throughout the night and morning. A final plan of care and treatment was provided and we were referred to the appropriate professionals for continuing care. Having had over 40 hospital stays in life, this was the very best experience ever. The hospital is very clean, the rooms are clean and very comfortable for the patient and family. As I said, the staff is the very best too and I unequivocally highly recommend the St Charles Hospital in Redmond Oregon. read more

I was recently treated in the Emergency Department for a critical issue while visiting the area on vacation. The ED staff was very prompt, thorough, professional, compassionate and competent. We commend the nurses, doctors, imaging technicians, neurology, chaplain service and all the components of staff on their stroke team. Everyone was wonderful and we are so grateful for their care of myself and my family. I am an ICU RN myself, so I know some of the inter workings of hospitals. From the ER to surgery, to post-op, my care was excellent. The communication was relevant and honest. The medical staff; CNA's, nurses, PA's, MA's, doctors and surgeons were all very kind, competent and worked hard to connect with me and explain my care. Even in the midst of a pandemic and 60-80 hour workweeks for many of these medical professionals, they all showed compassion. I never felt like they rushed in and out. They made sure I understood all of my health issues as well as the need for surgery. I feel very fortunate to have this kind of medical care in a small community. I would like to thank the amazing team at the Emergency Room for their wonderful care with my partner a few days back. RN Marilyn Okamura and DR. Andrew Parker we exceptionally compassionate and attentive in a trying time. They worked fast and diligently to ensure that we received great care, but more so, brought a sense of humanity and empathy to the experience. I have unfortunately spent a fair amount of time in ERs across the country, and have often felt alone and without information and clarity through the care process. Avoid the ER at St Charles in Redmond at all costs if you are having a mental health crisis. They have no behavioral health practitioners available after 5 pm or in weekends (watch the timing on your crisis). The staff sits and laugh while you are trapped like a monkey exhibited in a glass box. Bring your own water. You may not bring food and will not be offered even a snack while you pray they will release you and hate yourself even more than you already do for even walking in the door. Husband had surgery. Surgeon and surgery staff were outstanding! However then we got dumped off in room on second floor. Nurse Sara was unfriendly, not responsive to our needs. Took her a long time to respond, could of died first. Seriously! We have been here before and was treated respectfully, not by this person. read more

Dr. Brian Harris has been very thorough, compassionate and knowledgeable. He cared for my father who has a very complicated medical history. Although my father is 93 years old and has terminal cancer, Dr. Harris recognized he was dealing with someone who is far from being done with his life on earth! Dr. Harris carefully and compassionately listened and responded in a direct honest way. Dr. Hughes the surgeon who consulted with us was also very kind, entertaining our many questions with professionalism and honesty. We are very grateful for the attention my dad has received here at St. Charles, Redmond. The nurses were great too, especially Julie, RN. Sorry I did not catch the nurse who kept him safe on night shift, thank you too! read more

Minus one star if possible! This hospital almost killed my mother back in 2015, she ended up in Bend in ICU on life support and the physician told he he was not confident she was going to survive. WHY? Because she was having difficulty swallowing and she ( AND I) had told the nurses NOT to give her meds orally at that that time. The nurse came in with a small cup of POTASSIUM ( can be given IV) I told her NOT to give it to her, she insisted. I said NO! She finally said ok and left the room. I had to leave briefly to feed and let our dogs out. When I returned slightly over an hour later, my mother was gasping for air and cyanotic-(off color due to lack of O2) with NO ONE IN THE ROOM! She was 79 years old at that time also. I asked her what happened and between gasps she told me the "nurse gave me that liquid and it went into my lungs" !!!! I immediately alerted the staff, the same nurse came in and I lost it! I asked her to take her vitals straight away to which she calmly replied "I just did" I said " DO IT AGAIN, CAN'T YOU SHE SHE IS GASPING FOR AIR?!" GET THE 02 ON HER AND GET SOMEONE WITH A BRAIN IN HERE!" Her BP was 176/215 and her HR was over 200 SATS were 63 - MY MOTHER WAS DRYING BEFORE MY EYES!! The nurse called pulmonology, they immediately came with 5 others and they immediately got to work. I was TERRIFIED to say the least, crying but somewhat calm only because I HAD to be. They hooked her all up, intubated her and transferred by ambulance to Bend. She was there for a couple days then went to ICU in a drug induced coma. THIS was all 100% preventable! She was due to be released from Redmond the following day because she was doing so well, she had a surgery on her bowel and this had NOTHING to do with that! I called an attorney ( 3 actually) to find out about pain and suffering for her- and told them all I didn't want ANYONE else to go through this! I wanted to prevent a possibly tragedy by making them change protocol! And- what my entire family went through. My sons shut their business down to be with her and family came from out of state because we didn't think she was going to make it. It was by the grace of our Creator- heavy prayer and a VERY competent physician in Bend that time. 3 attorneys said " did she die"?! "Did she loose time from work"?! ( she had retired 2 years prior!) "Is she permanently disabled "?! I could not answer yes to any of those so they said "GOOD LUCK" Unbelievable! They told me St Charles is so heavily insured- (YA THINK?! ) and so many people have tried to sue and failed. Makes me feel real confident about living here. As a side note- They ( Redmond ER) have misdiagnosed me more than once. Last time- broken bones! and sent me home with no medication. This was AFTER an MRI. I told the physician I had broken ribs as they were popping in and out ( had them a few times before) and he ( attending physician initials J.W) made a joke about it after he came back telling me they were not fractured! No one bothered to call me after the radiologist CORRECTLY diagnosed me but they lied and tried to cover it up saying someone tried to call me 5 times and got a "magic jack" WHAT?? I have had the same number for over 15 years and they have had that number for as long- they verified it AGAIN upon check in as always. Wouldn't you think they would have tried to verify that in my records after the first call? It was just a cover up for dropping the ball! Same physician that has denied me tx in the ER twice prior- I have severe chronic medical conditions but he draws his own conclusions even after I have tried to explain my medical conditions to him. Usually pretty kind to you in the room but I have also heard him speaking inappropriately outside the room when I guess he assumed I couldn't hear? I have ZERO history of any illegal activity - This hospital blanket covers EVERYONE! I have more blood tests from that hospital ( and in general) than you can shake a stick @ and NOT ONE shows any drugs in 20 years since I have been on this side of the mountain OR any past medical records! I also have copies of all my records to prove it but I shouldn't have to, it's called respect of which he has --zero... * The treating nurse that night was DRUNK and belligerent! STRONG odor of alcohol ( NO mistake) from her breath! I have records of all dates , times and activities from this hospital... Be careful.... read more

Been in the emergency room waiting for 2 hours!. Watched people check in after us and go in before us. Yup, we have insurance, good insurance. The Receptionist wouldn't get off her dead butt to go see how much longer we had to wait. Only said "it goes to matter of priority" ... I'm sorry, what!? We're not here at midnight, on a work night for the scenery. Terrible service, terrible wait, terrible experience. read more

Warning is a little graphic. Yesterday August 18th, I went in to receive an amnisure test to see if my water was leaking at the St Charles brithing center, Redmond Oregon. The tech inserted the probe into my urethra mistakenly instead of my cervix. Not only did she insert it she twisted it, left it in for one minute and pulled it out which caused immediate excruciating pain. Since the procedure I have had non stop bright red bleeding, clotting protruding from my urethra and extreme pain every time I urinate. This was extreme incompetence and I will not be returning to St Charles for any further care. I will also be filing a formal complaint with patient advocacy and seek any medical expenses due to the severe tissue damage done and extreme pain I am in due to this reason. The doctor on the scene also confirmed that this was her suspicion after she had seen my reaction and the irritation after the procedure but was unable to confirm it at the time because i was unable to specify where the extreme pain was protuding from. I spoke with her the next day and she was able to graciously order me numbing agent which I had to cover out of pocket and is still not powerful enough because the injury is internal. I do have to say the doctor on scene was very helpful and apologetic. This will also effect my birthing plan as I will not be able to have a catheter for an epidural or a c section due to my concern of any risk of further damage. I am very dissatisfied and am in complete disbelief that this could even happen. I am almost ten months and as you can imagine this has caused extreme stress and anxiety which cannot be good for my baby. On top of all of this when I called to report bright red blood to the emergency on call, the doctor on call didn't receive my message until 9am the following day. I know it was an honest mistake but that kind of thing can mess someone's bladder up for life I have not been able to control it since and before I had this procedure done I peed maybe every 4-5 hours even this pregnant. I cannot express how extremely dissatisfied I am with this place and now I have a lasting injury to deal with on top of regular contractions and any pregnancy related pains. read more

We ended up here because my grandson was exposed to bed bugs at a local motel. They were wonderful! The easiest experience for an emergency room visit. Everyone was polite, helpful and friendly. We were in and out in an hour and very satisfied with the whole visit. We are from out of state and I highly recommend for anyone who is in need of care. Thanks again! read more

**Please read before considering admitting yourself or a loved one to this hospital ** Very poor treatment and they care nothing about the patients, and are disrespectful. The staff treats you like your complaints are made up and you're there seeking medication. I went to this ER (barely walking and using their wheelchair)with excruciating burning pelvic pain, extremely high blood pressure, nausea, etc with a diagnosed UTI the previous month. After no findings on the urinalysis, they were prepared to discharge me without any treatment or diagnoses for the cause of my symptoms. In severe distress, I told B. Campbell I worried about returning home in this much pain. He said "We can't admit you to the hospital just to manage your pain, I can have a social worker come talk to you". My mom was persistant, so they finally did a CT scan. I had an inflamed & infected kidney with evidence of passed kidney stones. The "doctor" prescribed antibiotics and sent me on my way, without scheduling a follow-up with a urologist. After I received my discharge papers, I realized the person portraying himself as a doctor was really only a Physician's Assistant. read more

My daughter was admitted thru ER and was so humiliated by the ER staff that she wanted to hide. She had a bleeding ulcer and was bleeding internaly. The smell of bad blood in your stool is awfull and they were all laughing and covering their faces with their shirts. If the staff can't be professional and treat the patients like human beings they should be terminated. There are a lot of nurses who would love to fill their positions. read more
