This review is so very long overdo. To make it as brief as possible, our band unknowingly purchased a '97 GMC Safari that was on its last feet in order to help somebody who was deported. After the normal DMV processing, we had it inspected at PEP Boys in Astoria and it passed with flying colors. However, just a few days before we were to head out on our east coast tour all the way down to Florida and back, with a van full of equipment and 5 of us, I began to have this gut feeling that something was wrong while riding the vehicle in town. I took it back to Pep Boys; they insisted there was nothing wrong... not even the tires. Still uneasy, I mentioned it to my fabulous hair stylist Kristen (previously at Hair Metal in Greenpoint; currently at Exhibit: A Salon). She recommended S&R and so I called them up immediately... the afternoon before we were scheduled to drive out of town to our first show. I explained the situation and they welcomed me in on the spot, so I left the car with them to look over. An hour later, they called me back and said that it would be dangerous for us to go on the road with the state the 'bandmobile' was in. I went in, they had the van still up in the air on the stilt-thing and showed me in detail all the major issues, which included 4 bad tires and numerous busted pipes, among other potentially disastrous items. Our band was obviously on a super tight budget as well as being committed to the shows, so the guys at S&R accepted our budget, put two people on the job overnight and completed the bare necessities (after giving me a complete rundown) in time for our departure the next day. I wasn't even able to give them a tip, but they were so gracious and understanding and I felt very safe in their hands. Fast-forward to today... it has been about 5 or 6 months now. Not only have we been able to go all the way down to Florida and back TWICE with hardly any issues, the bandmobile has NOT broken down on us at all!!! She has been a gem for us and I honestly feel that in big part it is because of the wonderful guys at S&R. She still needs some work done on her and we will definitely go back to them as soon as our budget allows us to. I must also add that when we got to Florida, my brother-in-law, who is an established mechanic, had nothing but words of praise for the work that was done. Hats off to all of you at S&R!!! I don't see how you can go wrong with these guys. My experience was flawless to say the least; I hope that yours will be as well. read more

I had recently purchased a 1984 landcruiser which was in good condition but I was about to drive cross country so wanted to get it thoroughly checked out before I left, as I had one instance where the car temporarily stopped running. after a couple days in the shop they replaced a few fairly expensive items, including rebuilding the power steering pump. the day after I picked up the car I noticed the car was leaking a lot of power steering fluid and whining. luckily they were open, and turns out a returning hose was not attached properly. easy fix, but would have been bad news if I had already started on my trip. when I did leave town, I got 3 hours outside of NY, stopped for gas, and my car wouldn't start back up. after getting towed almost 100 miles and being told by the AAA guy I needed a new alternator. of course this was a saturday night, and no shops nearby were open on sunday. the next day I started inspecting the wiring under the hood and the ground terminal on the battery was totally loose, and the mess of (aftermarket) cables connecting the battery and alternator were all corroded and loose. after cleaning them and tightening a few bolts it was running again, but not without a few electrical side effects (headlights and radio stopped working until I got the wiring replaced in austin). tariq seemed nice, and I want to believe they do good work, but I spent a lot of money "fixing" up my car and nothing improved: in fact things were worse. my steering issues did not improve at all, and the car now has a serious shake at around 35mph which it did not have before. they seem to have found a lot of expensive items to fix, yet missed the one simple and glaring electrical mess which caused a breakdown and other serious problems. I'm hoping it was more inexperience or incompetence, and not a scam, but still left me in a bad spot. read more

This is a great auto shop. Very friendly workers that know the trade. I had to get my breaks fixed, was done in a timely manner and reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

Exactly what I was looking for. Let me drop off the car, pick it up two days later, charged a fair rate for labor and the car drives great (just as promised). I'll easily be going back next time I need some work on the car. read more

Reliable, friendly, honest. Was recommended to me by a friend and I always come here.

Very trustworthy guys. Do their best to give good advice to their clients and seem to charge fair prices. Been going here for over 5 years and have been consistently happy with their work. read more

I got my car inspected here...it was a small interaction, but they took care of it quickly and professionally and I would go back if I needed other work done. read more

Going to get the yearly inspection can be anxiety producing, especially when you have a 9 year old car and don't really know anything about cars. I never know what they're going to find wrong, how much it is going to cost, if the work really needs to be done, or if I am given a fair price for it. After reading some reviews, I came here, and I am glad that I did. All I needed was an air filter, which ran me $25. It had been a while since I got an oil change, so I told them I thought I needed one, but they checked and told me I didn't. They were nice, quick, and efficient, and I plan to return in the future. read more

I recently brought my car here to receive a second opinion. A previous mechanic told me I needed 4 or five things done. The mechanics here looked at my car told me what I definitely need done and then explained that the other items would need to be fixed in the near future, just not immediately as the other place told me. I really feel like I can trust them here. I was pleased with the work and will bring my car back for future services. read more

I have been taking my car to SR Auto for about three years and I can't say enough good things about them. They have taken great care of my car and always give us a great price. I trust them implicitly, they have always been completely honest and never have suggested things that aren't necessary. It is difficult to find a mechanic that you trust, which is why I feel so fortunate to have found these guys. Highly recommended. read more

I have an old Land Cruiser, and these guys did a great job at some major repairs. They saved me a lot of money by figuring out whether various subcomponents could be replaced instead of replacing entire assemblies. read more

Since moving to NY I've had trouble finding a mechanic to trust. I've tried a handful of different places and I've had a lot of bad encounters. One day my car wouldn't start so I had it towed to SR. In 1 day my car was fixed and working great! A few months down the line I had some more car problems so I thought I'd try a new place just in case... The new place gave me horrible advice and I spent too much money with them. 2 weeks later I went back to SR and they fixed everything for free. Turns out I had had a defective fuel pump installed when i took it into them the first time around. They prioritized my issue and helped me get in and out of there on them. They were more than happy to listen and not pull one over on me. I know I can trust SR. read more
