There is no one better! No ONE! The best and the most trustworthy hands down. First communication was impeccable. They are open when they say they are and pick up the phone right away. I share this because I called 3 other places no one answered and no one ever called me back. Second he was so friendly, kind and compassionate even over the phone! Third I'm writing a unique review because I didn't have any extensive work done on my car. When my car wouldn't start I had it towed to Ambato. I was nervous all day thinking something major and expensive was wrong. In the end it was a dead battery. He didn't even charge me for the inspection. He didn't try to make up issues. He was honest straight forward and I was blown away. Since I had it towed I went ahead and had the oil changed lol for good measure and to give them some business. I do not wish any car issues especially the expensive kind on myself anytime soon but you can trust that if I do I'll be calling Ambato first and settling for no one else. If you want professional, quality, kindness and fast service this is the place. Don't hesitate! read more

Ambato Auto Service - Paquito, the shop cat! - Auto Repair Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

I came to Ambato auto service after my vehicle had its catalytic converter stolen for the second time in less than six months! It was painful enough to have it happen the first time and yet it happened to me AGAIN less than six months later during Covid! If this has never happened to your vehicle you are one of the lucky ones and perhaps I am not since it happened TWO times and this is an expensive part to replace because it contains precious metals that are appealing to thieves. Despite this unfortunate event, I have to say that I am very grateful to have found in Ambato auto service. The owner Luis, is honorable and very fair in pricing. I would recommend Ambato anyone searching for a great, reliable mechanic. read more

Cools guys got my inspection done in literally 10 minutes. Will bring my car back here anytime

excellent service and fair price. They were very helpful and kind, I fully admitted to being a new car-haver right away when I didn't know what kind of oil my car needed. The oil change also included putting air in my tires and fixing a small dent for free. Will absolutely go back for my next oil change! read more

Luis was awesome! I dropped my BMW off around noon for service. Luis quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it for a fair price. I had my car back and working perfectly by 5:30pm that day. Finding a high quality and fair mechanic isn't always easy. I will be back to Ambato as soon as the time comes for more service on my car. I recommend them highly. read more

I've been to Ambato several times and each experience is excellent. Luis and his staff are incredible honest, quick and efficient - and very friendly in case that matters to you when it comes to your mechanic. He has always very honestly assessed my cars issues and fixed them at a fair price. He also accommodates you when you need to come and manages to get things done quickly. There is no reason to go to any other mechanic - just go to ambato for all your servicing and repair needs. I have no idea how someone could leave a one star review - it's likely a personal issue - so you're best suited to disregard the two reviews here that are less that 4 or 5 stars. read more

First time car inspection and I was in and out in 15 min. Nice guys, and took me right away on a Sat @ 9a $37

Kind, local and helpful. I do not speak car, but they are able to translate. Honest pricing I am never worried about them ripping me off. They explain everything very well to me and how they get to the pricing. Glad I have these guys near my house. read more

Really really nice-- I came in in a mild panic ten minutes before they opened with brake problems and a weekend of driving upstate on the horizon. They had it fixed by 3pm and let me pick up the next morning as I got stuck at work. Took me upstairs, explained what the problem was, gave me an itemized receipt, and let me know to keep an eye on my brakes but didn't do anything unnecessary. And the shop cat is very cute and talkative. read more

Hands down my favorite auto shop. I made the mistake of going somewhere else after I move, but now I'm driving across brooklyn to go to Ambato. I trust Luis and his crew completely. Work is always done expertly AND quickly. They are also always careful not to do unnecessary work, and have always warned me about potential risks ahead of time. And the shop cat is as handsome as they come. read more

I all of a sudden had some issues with my shocks so I brought my car to Ambato based on reviews. They were so fast, they took my car right away and it was done the same day. He also called before he did any work to give me a breakdown of costs and labor, and he showed me the parts that were bad and what parts he put in the car to fix it. Excellent customer service. Only tip for customers is pay in cash unless you want sales tax added to your bill - added additional $80 to my bill because I paid with card. read more

I completely trust Luis with all my car repairs and maintenance. He is friendly, fair, reliable, and I never worry about him trying to "find" problems with my car. Would recommend to anyone! read more

They were great. So nice and got my job done quickly and exactly on time.

I brought my car in, a 2006 Subaru Outback, with a first ever problem with the engine. I dropped it off in the morning and went on my way to work. By 3:30 p.m. they had diagnosed and fixed the problem. They were courteous, professional, and quick. They charged me a very reasonable price. It cost me less than other places that told me that the diagnostic cost could be more than this place charged for completing the work. They are very good and very affordable. read more

Luis is great and so is his staff. I just got my inspection done and they helped me understand my car.

Haven't written a review in a long time but felt compelled to dust off the ol' Yelp noggin' after visiting these guys! And thanks to everyone who previously left a review for them. Short and sweet- got a $65 ticket for a missing inspection sticker (...err, non-existant) yesterday and set out to remedy the sitch asap this morning. After being turned down by at least 6 other places (too busy, wanted me to drop it off -not happening-, didn't perform inspections anymore, etc.) I moseyed over to this place where I was greeted by Luis. He was friendly, immediately took me in hassle-free, performed the inspection, told me I needed new brake pads (which is entirely true!) And voila! Less than an hour later I was on my way, no wait, no BS, in a safe and street legal vehicle for less than $200. Thanks so much! These guys rock! read more

First review in all my life. If I could I would give -1 star. Really rude staff I ask for a sensor change that I knew it was bad guy tells me he needs to check with his computer. Only or that 45 dollars and goes on and talks about he paid 1000+ dollars for his computer checker. Wth? Is he saying I'm lying? Trying to make me look stupid and don't know about cars. Beware of people like this they will charge you for every single think money hungry mechanics smh read more

Great service and very friendly. We have been going here for years!!! Luis is super helpful and knowledgeable!

I've been coming here for 5 years for inspections, oil changes, engine issues, brake pad replacements, etc. The service is pretty good and quick. Would recommend that people come here for mechanic services! read more

Luis (owner/operator) is extremely nasty and disrespectful to deal with, and actually thwarted the repair. I went to his shop to begin with because Luis had a high number of 5 star reviews on Yelp and I counted on that to seek out his repair expertise. I have no idea why he pulled a stunt on me. Im sure he has his reasons, but for a repair in the neighborhood of $2500, he acted so rudely and was so oppositional that I could not possibly work with him. He shot himself in the foot acting out as he did. The story below. Went in for an annual inspection at Ambato and code lights indicated problem with Catalyst Efficiency. Luis told me I needed to replace catalytic converters (right and left sides) and instructed me to get OEM parts only, no aftermarket, since according to him, the aftermarket parts stop working after a couple of years. He told me I'd have to get the parts myself, which I found odd since any other time I've had auto service (over a span of 45 yers), the auto repair proprietor had obtained the parts for me. However, I didn't mind this because I thought this would help me save money. As instructed, I called my dealership repair center and was directed to a web site that catalogued exhaust system components for my auto, of which there were many. I reached out to Luis to provide guidance as to which parts in particular he would need to install, and provided him with a diagram of the system parts copied from the dealership website For the second time in 24 hours, Luis was nasty and as uncooperative as it gets. He told me that I had "interrupted" his work and refused to specify which of the myriad components would enable him to properly repair. Again I tried to pin him down to facilitate selection of the needed components but for some unknown reason, refused to pinpoint the parts for me. It is all very curious, and ultimately extremely disappointing and time wasting. I sure hope this was an anomaly for the rest of you out there. read more

This place is awesome. Luis is such an honest, trustworthy guy. I'm so glad I found Ambato. I needed some brake work done on my Honda CRV a while back. Took it to the dealership (yes, I know that was my first mistake) and they wanted over $3K for brakes, rotors, caliper replacement, fluids, blah, blah. I was shocked. So I started looking around and found Ambato based on positive reviews. Brought the car to Luis who determined that the calipers were fine and the pads and rotor replacement (front and back) cost me only $400 for parts and labor. So, from $3K to $400! I can't say enough good things about Luis. Not that I wish for things to go wrong with my car, but I look forward to taking it back to Luis for everything I need done. Ambato is the real deal! read more

Just bought a car after being carless for ten years, and after having some bad experiences as a young woman getting taken advantage of mechanics, I was scared of it happening again. I only needed an oil change, but I was still dreading going. Louis and his employee Jesus were very nice, and charged me less than quoted. I felt very comfortable and will definitely be going back. Thank you! read more

This place was great. They close at 6pm and I arrived at 5:30 for an Inspection and to switch my license plates and they were happy to assist me. They were one of the only shops in the area that would see me after 5pm. They were very friendly and efficient. I was in and out in 15 minutes. I'll definitely go back. read more

It was the last day I had to get an inspection before I could start getting ticketed (I'm a procrastinator) so I called Ambato Auto & was told I could bring it right in. Luis, the owner, was very nice, he had my car inspected in under twenty minutes and he assured me that there were no outstanding issues. It was a pleasant change from every other time I've been inspected & been told I need all kinds of new widgets in order to pass. My experience with Ambato Auto was great and I highly reccommend them. read more

I needed to get work done twice in one week for two issues I was previously aware of and had already received quotes. On my first visit, Louis got me in right away and had my car repaired that day. The price he quoted me me that day was what I paid up front, so I came back two days later to have the second issue fixed. That job ended up being a little less than he quoted, and altogether I saved about $100 from what I had been previously quoted. I hope I don't need to come back soon, but if I do, Ambato will be my first choice. read more

Best mechanic. Incredibly nice, very communicative, fast and good prices. I really really recommend them!!!

I've used this place at least a half dozen times in the two years that I've been in this neighborhood. Luis is an amazingly helpful, honest guy that will really go out of his way to help. The prices are very fair -- I've called around to compare rates -- and you come away with a very fair transaction. I've been to a few other auto shops and I've always left feeling like I've been taken advantage of, even if only a little bit. Not this shop. If you're interested in having a reliable, honest mechanic then this is your place. Highly recommended. read more

I rarely write reviews but these guys are amazing. I had a new battery that had been draining for weeks and after continuously having to get it jumped I took it here. They found the problem which ended up being minor and fixed it for free. Honest, stand-up mechanics who know what they're doing. I will only bring my car to be serviced here from now on. read more

Genuine, honest an reliable guys. Definitely going back...

Luis is very sincere and honest. I will return back when I need auto service or repair. Very nice fella.

I stopped into Ambato - based on the good reviews here and the shop's proximity to my apartment - and was not disappointed. I had just purchased a used car, and wanted to make sure I got the oil changed ASAP. They took care of me right away, and when I told Luis, the owner, that I'd just bought the car, he offered to look it over at no charge. His diagnosis was that the rear brake pads and rotors would need to be replaced soon, so instead of procrastinating I figured I'd get that done too. The whole thing took less than two hours, was very reasonably priced, and everyone in the shop seemed super friendly and happy to have my business. It's comforting to know that I have a good, honest mechanic so nearby, and I'll definitely be back. read more
