WE as a family and business have fished from Maine to Florida for over 50 years.If you came to Florida would you like shrimp from the region or from Asia? We asked for suggestions. We stated clearly we want fresh fish caught by area commercial fisherman.The waitress pointed to the swai or we commonly called basa, or crap eaters. She said its fished here, right outside, and laughed.Serving in Vietnam for 4 years, we would buy a catfish substitute called swai. Farm raised. In Florida some try and are successful in substituting it for grouper or even snapper.It takes on the butterly,salt,and herb flavor., that covers up that pungent taste.Most of us think iits great. Most people don't use tons of butter when cutting home .We ate what we raised or made. read more

We were greeted with a huge smile and seated promptly. The restaurant sits right on the water with a beautiful view. We ordered the fish tacos as an appetizer. They were served on a hard corn shell that were over cooked. The flavor of the taco was very bland. Maybe my Texas taste buds were seeking a little more flavor. Laura was a great server. The reason for the 3 stars is that we had to wait 30 plus minutes to receive our food. We were informed that our ticket was lost when the paper in the kitchen receipt machine ran out Our lunch was good once we received it. If I could have put a zero, I would have. Honestly one of the worst meals I've ever had. Ever! Food was frozen and microwaved. We had calamari, scallops and grouper, all were terrible. Ordered a Long Island iced tea, it was pink. I don't believe they knew what it even was. The staff were extremely friendly and our waiter was slammed. He tried so hard to be attentive, but we asked several times for the same thing. It was raining so they closed up the zip up windows and we were literally sweating it was so hot. Stopped by for some happy hour shananigans after some early shopping at the Vero Beach mall. Now I've been to their Melbourne location many of times and it's a bit of my favorite... So walking up to this location not so much impressed with the landscaping. It needs some cleanup/make over. However I did like fact it was on the water. Now this location was much smaller. However on the right day with all of the openness it would be an awesome spot to hangout. Now we went with our usual fish fingers and wings...yummm!!! However we opted for a few peel and eat shrimp and smoked fish dip as well. The shrimp were just ok, nothing special and the fish dip was a bit too mushy to me, not textures what so ever. The flavor was nothing special, but ask for the side of tomatoes, jalapeños, and onions to go with it. Customer service was just ok, sometimes it took a while to flag down our server. For a second beer and the bill. Overall, not bad. But I think I'll stick to my Melbourne location :) read more

Run. Do not walk. No hyperbole all truth. We work at Disney. Covid SUCKS. It's my birthday. We got a room at Disney's vero beach and decided to explore. Love seafood but I'm super picky because I'm from Maryland and we are particular about our crab cakes and crabs in general. I could NOT love this place more if I tried. The hostess was pleasant on the phone and in person. We sat at the picnic table on the dock. Sparkle our server could not be sweeter if she tried. Very attentive and informative. It's a gorgeous spot and the food is incredible. Again, RUN... don't walk. Go and see them and support this business. read more

Been going to Squid Lips for quite some time and have always been moderately satisfied. Last night, May 29, 2023 I ordered my favorite; a pound of steamed mussels. More than half of the shells were empty. (And they were not down in the broth.) The shells that did contain mussels yielded the smallest mussels I have ever eaten in my 83 years. When I asked our waitress about them, she just shrugged her shoulders and ignored me. I was extremely disappointed in my appetizer. I ordered a salad for my main course and the lettuce was wilted and some of it spoiled. I will go back but it will be a long while. read more

Came in on a Friday night and we were sat right away. Our server was Cole and he was awesome. He gave a great recommendation on the bacon wrapped plantains. He was great at answering all our questions when we informed him we were visiting the area and staying out in Vero Beach. He told us on the back dock that they had some feeders that took quarters and we could feed the catfish out back. And that during the day in the afternoon you could see dolphins. The food was great and the service was even better. Definitely a cool place to check out when visiting. read more

This place is the locals and tourist place to stop. The setting is dockside and (fun) rustic with the feeling that it is a hometown icon. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. When we got there on a Wednesday evening at prime dinner time, they were busy and crowded, but got us in right away. Sat us down with a view of the marina and docks. The menu is a huge variety of fish, shell fish (and for those land lovers) chicken and meat meals. They are reasonably priced for the quality, selection and variety of foods. We did not partake in the spirits, but they have a full bar to order from or just to drink with your meal. I got the shrimp skewer with the house special glaze, which was so good, I mopped up the extra sauce with their signature bread (also delicious)! My daughter got the teriyaki mahi mahi sandwich, my wife got the seared tuna (sushi grade of course) and my other daughter stuck with a teriyaki angus burger. This meal exceeded our expectations and Irene, our server was like a friend we had yet to meet-super sweet and accommodating. She made us feel like we were eating at our relative's home. We came in from Disney's Vero Beach resort. If you are in the area and looking for some great eats at a decent price and a local seaside taste, this is your stop. Visited this place 3 times while staying in Vero Beach. The absolute best view of any restaurant we tried. We watched a family of dolphins swimming for a good hour while seated at our table. Fun to feed the catfish off the pier. They have the best scallops I've ever tasted- they were wrapped in Cajun bacon! Very fun to dine here and entertaining for the kids too. read more

Great little hideaway on the water! Good atmosphere and they feature live music on the weekends. Daily food specials Monday through Wednesday make this a nice spot to stop and rest one's heels while getting something tasty to eat. Reservations aren't taken however if you call ahead depending on the time of day large groups are accommodated. Jen, our waitress, was friendly, polite, efficient and did a great job! Food was tasty! The mixed drinks however leaves something to be desire. They need a school on blending and mixology. For a night that wasn't busy there's no excuse for a poorly mixed drink. read more

The food is awesome! The pineapple bread is awesome! I had the stuffed flounder and wow! My friend washers start off by the calamari! It was so good I ordered 2 baskets of calamari. My friend is from out of town and loved every bite of the stuffed flounder, the vegetables had great taste. Along with the mashed potatoes. We actually shared the stuffed flounder and ate every bite. We also ordered 2 lobster and crab cakes and they were also amazing! I loved it and I would definitely come back again! My son had the burger and loved it. It helps since his menu is limited to food allergies. It was the perfect breeze with a great view. Nice causal atmosphere during the day. This was my first visit to Squid Lips after many many years. Maybe the delicious grouper fingers I had years ago called me back here? Well, they're now called "fish" fingers, filled with who knows what? Definitely not as good as I remember. We ordered a fried grouper dish with a honey glaze and the seafood scampi dish. The only thing good about the grouper dish was the fish, as both the ice cream scooped from a vat rice pilaf and the probably previously frozen from a bag veggie medley were both served to me COLD. I didn't send it back as I was pretty hungry and didn't want to wait for more food. The only thing barely edible from the shrimp scampi was the shrimp (obviously previously flash frozen). The fettuccine from the scampi was sitting in a soup of butter and wine, no reduction. I get how scampi is prepared but this was just liquid and disgusting! Our waitress quickly picked up the scampi before we could show the manager and she brought it to the kitchen to show the chef how NOT to prepare shrimp scampi, and the manager on shift refused to remove the scampi from the bill because "well, you must have liked something about it because you ate the shrimp." We settled to pay for half the scampi and get the hell out of there. I went out of my way to visit this place and I vow to never return. The only good things about this experience: 1. You're on the water 2. The dinner bread is damn good. It's got a hint of coconut that keeps you wanting more. read more

This really is the perfect place to get a good feel for the "treasure coast". The location really is perfect - walk out on a dock to a medium sized restaurant that overlooks the intercoastal. You have open air windows on all sides with water mister fans to keep you cool during the summer. On to the food... They offer different marinades for the different sandwiches - everything from cherry with pepper to cajun, etc. The fried fish sandwich is fresh and good and the "drunken" sweet potato is to die for! Service was above average and lunch during the week was not that busy but I can imagine it must be crazy at night on the weekends.
