Squid Lips is a good place to grab a drink and lunch or dinner right on the water (there are two other places on the same property). The drink options were average, but they had a decent mix of beers on tap and in bottles. The food tended more on the fried side, with a few fresh options too. My family and I went out for Easter lunch after church. Where we were seated was very windy, which was understandable because it's an open air restaurant. We were able to see the Pelican dive for a fish which was cool. The waitress was sweet and super friendly. She was very helpful and considerate, always checking on us and making sure everything was okay. Now why I am give the restaurant a 2 star review: My husband's Fish and Chips were just okay nothing to rave about. My father's sandwich was not the best as he found it to have pieces of shell in it which was not edible. He said that coleslaw was the worse like it came out of a store bought package. My Drunken Sweet Potato was not fully cooked. My Lobster & Shrimp Mac & Cheese also had pieces of shell in it. I love Mac & Cheese but that was awful! I swear that it came out of a box which is the worse way to make it. Plus the lobster and shrimp must have been puréed in a food processor to form a paste to mix in the Mac & Cheese. I was expecting small chunks of Lobster and Shrimp and a heck of lot more cheese. My MIL's shrimp basket was fine. I have a culinary degree and I expect the best. If I had made that Lobster, Shrimp Mac & Cheese for my chef in college, he would've thrown it in the trash, given me an F and told me to try again! My dad was done and wanted to leave so we paid the bill and left. I didn't notice until further review of the bill that there was a Service Charge of 3.80% added to the bill. There is an explanation for this service charge on the very bottom of the menu in small print. I have worked in restaurants after culinary school and the front of the house (wait staff and bartenders) never had to share their tips with the back of the house (cooks and dishwashers). Everyone except wait staff and bartenders usually gets paid minimum wage. Wait staff and bartenders rely on tips because their hourly wages are lower than minimum wage! From now on I will ask every restaurant if they are going to charge me extra to help pay the cooks and dishwashers, if so I'll walk out. If a restaurant can't paid their cooks and dishwashers minimum wage and have to charge customers an extra 3.80% something is very wrong! read more

Mixed bag experience beautiful venue on the water, service was excellent closer attention could be made to cleanliness but it wasn't bad. Started off with oysters, they were ice cold and fresh major plus, had the conch fritters I thought they were exceptional mild spice and packed with meat. The Calamari was around average lacked any seasoning was somewhat bland. Would have benefited from a decent hot Marinara what we were served was a tomato concoction served in a plastic souffle cup. The shrimp basket wasn't impressionable straight out of the freezer smaller shrimp but the french fries were hot and crispy had good seasoning. The fish and chips wasn't a hit, four small unidentifiable fish blocks served with the same fries which were good. I was looking for the Gorton's fisherman. Someone needs to teach them how to make coleslaw it was awful. What the place has going for it is the water views and excellent service, the food with the exception of the shellfish mediocre. May go back strictly for the ambiance not for the food but noting the prices would stick to the appetizer menu. read more

Squid Lips in Sebastian at one time was our favorite go-to restaurant when we have guests from out-of-town. Riverview ambiance, very nice staff and delicious crab/lobster cakes! Last night was incredibly disappointing, although our newly hired waitress was very nice, accommodating, and apologetic. We have had no complaints what-so-ever with Squip Lips through our decades of being customers -until now. We ordered 3 dinners of 2 piece crabcakes and 1 dinner of grilled Mahi and shrimp. The sauteed crabcakes were incredible, as always. However, the Mahi and shrimp wwas very overcooked and we are accustomed to their instant rice. Two issues were unacceptable and we feel the post our experience. 1) The mashed sweet potatoes was layer with rice, because the kitchen did not switch serving utensils. 2) Consumer beware! We were appalled to be charged a 'Junk fee' of 3.8% for "...our non-tipped staff who help make your experience enjoyable." This charge may have been going on for years and gone unnoticed. We were not told of this ridiculous charge when we receive our checks, however it is listed in the small print, just below their motto... "I am the bread of life, he who comes to Me will not hunger and he who believes in Me will never thirst." John 6:35. We found this statement to be a very interesting and contradictory to 'The Word'. In our frame of reference, business owners should always pay their staff a living wage and never, EVER double-dip into patrons' wallets to soften their responsibility as a business owner. I've tried to like both at this location. The rebrand of the shoreside was a huge disappointment. Both rely on the view, the food for the most part sucks. Seafood lasagna is decent vs price if you get it on happy hour for $11. I got their lobster shrimp Mac and cheese. The lobster and shrimp was almost non existent and what I could find were the size of a grain of rice at best. It was just mac and cheese, pre-made for $20something. This place is awesome. Staff or very friendly, kind, understanding and are very competent. You get your drinks almost as soon as you walk in the door. Food is ready when you want it. We have learned the names of key staff that serve us and they know ours. The ambience is the best too. The water views can't be matched anywhere. We come here probably minimum 4 times a week. November, December and January are the months we are in Vero. The rest of the year we travel in our AClass motor coach. We came here for the seafood, along with the ambiance of a really cool little restaurant sitting on the Indian River. The good: very nice ambience with a beautiful view. Busy. A little noisy but a very nice, clean establishment. The bad: the food. Seriously, when you take the time to come all the way to the ocean (ok, right ON the river and sooo close to the Atlantic Ocean) why, why, WHY would you serve frozen coconut shrimp!!! With all the positive reviews on the coconut shrimp I truly expected fresh, hand-breaded shrimp. (Yes, we honestly have this same coconut shrimp in our freezer at home... the same exact size, coating and tasting shrimp we purchased last week from Costco!). My husband's grouper sandwich he said was just ok. He thought that tasted frozen too: very disappointed. We stumbled on this place in the middle of the week at about 5:05pm. We sat at the bar and asked the bartender if they had a happy hour. Her reply was very abrupt with "too late you missed it by 5 minutes." Oh - ok. As we sat there and watched both bartenders hustling we understood the attitude. The other bartender was much nicer when she came to take our order. We had drinks and dinner. I got the Cajun bacon wrapped scallops for dinner. It came with 3 scallops. The Cajun was not spicy. It was good but not enough food for a dinner and an expensive appetizer for $18.99. Four (4) scallops would have been appreciated for that price. After 10 plus years of going to squid lips we tried to the new river side Squid Lips location. First impression when we arrived was how nice and large the new location was. There is a lot of seating near the bar and there is a large stage for live music. We went on a Thursday night and there was no wait and live music. We sat away from the music because it was loud. The menu is like the other location but only the sandwiches and wraps, none of the entree meals. We were disappointed that they were out or our favorite the abaco fish sandwich. When we got our meals they came with chips that were just from a bag, very disappointing. Our meal was just okay. Nothing was special or really good. My family of seven celebrated our birthdays here on a Monday evening. The place was not busy when we arrived. Our name was taken and we waited for a table to be setup. After waiting for quite a while, we checked with the hostess. Apparently, after the setup, they forgot to seat us. After we got the table, drinks came and went-no refills for a long time. Casual place on the water. Large bar area, open air seating leans windy at most tables, nice water views. Drinking water served has a decidedly off taste - not enjoyable and did not drink it. Service was fine. Food was merely average. Ordered baked stuffed shrimp which came piping hot in a little casserole, covered in a weird gray colored sauce but the tails were left on making it quite difficult to eat. Stuffing was supposed to be lobster & shrimp but no flavor or texture of lobster at all. Shrimp itself was good and fresh. Disappointing as it was one of the more expensive entrees but did not meet expectations. Fries and coleslaw with it were ok. Probably should have ordered bar type food. read more

This review is for Riverdeck at Squidlips. My family and I have enjoyed dining at Squidlips when Buz opened up Overwater in 2004. Our fishing boat was docked at the marina so if we had a bad day fishing we always ran over to the restaurant where we knew we could get the best Crunchy Fish Sandwiches in town! I finally made to the new addition Riverdeck. My gosh what a place. I met my daughter for lunch and Madi was our server. She was polite knowledgeable and best of all she had a smile on face. My daughter ordered Mango Mahi Tacos it had a mango Pico on them that was fresh and just plane delicious. I of course ordered the Crunchy Fish Sandwich. It was just as good or even better than the original at Overwater Grill. When we where done eating my daughter and I walk down to Overwater Grill where I saw that my mother's world record snapper is displayed on the right as soon as you walk through the door.
