There are many places in this world to get a mediocre slice of pizza. This is one of them, it's just in square slices here which doesn't make it taste any better. This place is conveniently located on the square next to the Lyric, so I decided to try a slice of pizza after seeing a show. Quite disappointing. The slice cost me $4 and was not particularly tasty. Just about an average slice of pepperoni pizza. And there is very little seating inside the restaurant (although the inside is decorated nicely). There are many better places to get a late night snack, and there is certainly better pizza in Oxford. read more

Square pizza is not good, showing what happens when a business puts profits over product. For starters, the owner seems to think that he has a premium product, that demands a premium price. The issue stems from the product, a subpar, soggy, sickening excuse for a pizza. I'm willing to admit that their are different pizzas for different people. However, this slop is a crime against pizza. I'm genuinely curious how anyone can find this lukewarm garbage appetizing. I firmly believe that if it wasn't for the location of this business it would've failed within weeks. If you are charging $4 for a slice cheese pizza, it should knock peoples socks off. I understand people have to make ends meet, but this it is down right foul to have a mediocre slice cost $4. It's a wonder that the only time this place is legitimately busy is when the bars kick everyone out for the night. You would have to be practically blackout to think this pizza was worth the price let alone the wait. I've had this pizza 2 times, one time I picked up a slice in the store where it was barely reheated after sitting out for god knows how long. It came out incredibly soggy, almost like it was a piece of French toast that had been soaking in syrup. I chalked it up as a one off, potentially a bad batch, or maybe a new employee not cooking it long enough. Went back in a second time, I was working late and it was one of the few places in town still open. Order a whole pizza this time, ask for it well done. Got a little bit of pushback from the employee, who apparently thought that I was a lunatic for wanting a crispy crust. Whatever, I get my pizza, full of hope that maybe this could be a late night spot in my future, as they are so few and far between in Oxford. My disappointment was immense when I took my first few bites into what was another soggy disaster. I understand that variety is what makes different places unique, and there can't be great pizza without bad pizza. It's truly a shame that Square pizza isn't great, because with their location they could be the most popular spot in this town. I will not be back, and would not recommend this place to absolutely anyone who enjoys pizza. You are better off walking to a gas station and picking up a pizza lunchable. You'll save $2 and end up with a better tasting product. read more

This was our first time here. Between the mediocre pizza and bad service, we don't see why this place is rated so high by the few yelpers it has. We walked in around 6:45 on a Friday night...they open at 6. We announced it was our first time there and the guy behind the counter pointed to the chalkboard and said he has a cheese slice and a few pepperoni slices available. We have a large family, so we are not use to ordering by the slice. I asked what their special was or what they were famous for. The man responded, "we have one cheese slice and a few pepperoni. You can add anything from the menu to the slices." Well dur! I got that. I was trying to up sell a whole specialty pizza for you mister. At that point we didn't feel very welcomed, so we ordered the slices he ready. Pizza crust was good. Crisp like a NY slice, but less flavorful. The slice we had was not piping hot and gooey like we wanted since we were directed to the pre-made slices vs waiting for the fresh pizzas out of the oven because they would be "too hot". So 4 slices at $4/each it was! We got water since they were out of most soda and tried to make the best of it. After spending $16 and change we wish we went down the street to Old Venice for a really good whole pie. Bottom line: Over-priced, bland dough pizza served lukewarm with a view of a really good pizza place across the street. read more

This is Tate's pizza place and in the interest of full disclosure I've known him for many years but I'm also a ruthless reviewer and honest about what I like and don't like. I honestly think this is currently the best pizza in Oxford and I really like the thin crisp crust which reminds me a bit of the crust of my favorite pizza joint in New Orleans, Theo's. The vegetable toppings are all very fresh and have a lot of flavor. I was disappointed that chicken wasn't an option for a topping and I would also like to see meatball as a topping option. The pizza is served square instead of round so that might throw off some people and I do miss eating a sliced wedge rather than a square but it isn't that big a deal to me. You also get the option to order by the square slice so that gives your the opportunity to sample the pizza here without having to commit to purchasing an entire pie. I also had the roast beef sandwich which was served in a similar format as the one at Pizza Den and the sandwiches here are also certainly worthy of eating. They don't serve alcohol here so that does prevent one of my favorite pastimes of eating pizza while drinking beer so be prepared for that. I think lunch time might be a better experience than later on when the after bar crowd arrives and the selection becomes limited to pepperoni or cheese. Different folks like different styles of pizza so since they sell it by the slice it definitely is worthy of sampling one to see if you like it like I do. read more

I came in to visit Ole Miss from out of town and stopped here to get a $4 pepperoni slice on a hot summer night before the bars closed. I liked the square pizza divided up in four square slices. The pizza was pretty good. They didn't serve beer, but hey, that's the perfect excuse to load up on pizza and bar hop at other places or vise versa. What will get me to come back is the friendliness of the employees here, especially Tate. Had a great conversation with him and his co-workers. What I was really impressed with is that he suggested other places for me to try like the Ajax Diner and going to City Grocery for a beers. Most owners are all into their business and don't want patrons spending their money at other places. This guy wanted me to enjoy my experience at "The Square." read more

This pizza is for college kids after the bars close it is totally packed. They have weird hours obviously to accommodate the students. The pizza is okay at best and is nothing to brag about. The pizza is comparable then to chevrons chicken on a stick and should only be consumed under the influence of alcohol. Usually a wonderful late night food destination, but my last experience was more than unpleasant. The staff was extremely rude, all on their cellphones, unfriendly, and visibly annoyed with all the customers, most of who were drunk, but what do you expect after a football game? Customers were hungry and confused by the staff's refusal to sell slices while slices were suddenly sold to some. Even more, the pizza was burned and sloppily made. The manager immediately threatened to have customers arrested who would not comply with his request to leave the establishment (which is typically opened until midnight or so) at 10. l will no longer recommend or visit Square Pizza. read more

Service was slow even when the restaurant was nearly empty. Pizza was not the worst I've had in town (*cough cough Papa John's at any of the two locations in town cough*) but definitely not the best. The pizza is very bready and way too thick for my liking. The prices are also really expensive for what you get. Overall, I won't be returning and I don't think it's a good deal.
