And it was truly a hulking mountain of fries! - Avocado toast - One of the best we've ever tried So we loved the food and the service was exceptional. And it was also very affordable - before tipping, we paid $61 for a three-person meal (3 entrées, only water). This is the best dining experience we've had in Mississippi so far. The food was good quality, well prepared and presented, with traditional flavor profiles. The service was horrible (not the wait staff, the management/hostess process). I need to back up and say that our visit was a table for 7 on Spring graduation weekend. Since they do not take reservations, we got in line early for the table and were 3rd in line for the table that would seat our party. The problem came when the first in line decided that they wanted to push their reservation back over an hour, and they let them. Add to that everyone wanted to spend time celebrating so the table turn was not the usual. We were not seated until almost 10:00 PM that night (now you know). The wait staff did an excellent job. We stopped in for brunch while killing time during a break at an event at the University. Walked right into a nice booth on the inside by the bar. That was surprising as there were tons of people out front waiting to get in. I haven't spent much time in Oxford and the food scene is unknown to me. I do know there are some bad ass chefs in the city. Some are pretty famous. This lady is one of them in my opinion. If she isn't famous, she should be. As soon as we are sat I realize why there was such a wait. There were no less than 107 parties of 8-10 college age girls scattered all over the restaurant. Curiously large plates of fries kept coming from the kitchen and landing at the tables of the brunch girls. Then I notice the most brilliant thing I have ever seen on a menu. BUBBLES & FRIES (MP) any sparkling bottle of wine comes with a mountain of fries! That's exactly what it was. Every table of tennis skirts had this, some of them had more than one. They are not even telling them the price! Market price on sparking wine and fries. BRILLIANT! We ordered and in no time had our food. I ordered the Bianca Pizza, and C ordered the Lion Tamer. I loved my pizza. It was really good. It had the perfect balance of crust and toppings. The dough was well done and all of the flavors complemented each other. I wish I had one right now! The Lion Tamer was another great dish! It's like an Eggsagna. Just coined that one.... You can have it. No trademark. It was rich with tomato flavor and the eggs just made it even more divine. The grilled bread held up nicely. Really tasty dish! We were in and out in no time. Got fed well and got back to the school with time to spare. I will absolutely be back for the dinner menu soon. Dinner for 8. - Ambiance (4*) Dark and moody inside but a bit noisy. Lots of college kids around but dressed nicely either in groups or on dates. - Service (3*) Our waiter was friendly but perhaps a bit awkward? He made a bunch of strange jokes that didn't really land. He also suggested that we order 2 portions of the smaller olives, which would have been good except that we also ordered the Salumi Board which came with olives. Would have been nice if he had pointed that out. Two of our entrees came out a good 5 minutes after the rest arrived, creating that awkward moment where everyone stares at their dish but elects to wait. - House Marinated Olives, $7 (5*) Not too salty. Could actually taste the rosemary, garlic, and chili. I told one of the guys who works for me that if I was ever upset with him, he should just send me a jar of these olives, and I might get over it. - Salumi Board, $32 (5*) Loved the grilled bread. Is it really just garlic bread grilled? It tasted too good for that to be the case? Then that stracciatella cheese with honey dripped on top of the bread? I told that same guy he should send me some bread and cheese along with the olives! - White Beans, $13.50 (5*) This guy, who's local, told me not to order the white beans even though he'd never had them himself. It's a good thing I persevered. So good! Great texture and flavor, and the heat from the chili flakes just made the whole thing a unique experience. I could've eaten a whole plate of this on its own. - Classic Meatballs, $22.50 (3*) Meatballs in marinara sauce. That's really all it was. Compared to all the superstars, this was decidedly mundane. - Bacon Jam & Calabrian Chili Honey Pizza, $19.50 (5*) I'll overlook the slight sogginess on the pizza because the flavor was something I'd never had on pizza before, and boy was it great! The waiter had suggested putting pepperonis on top- thank goodness we didn't listen because that would've covered up the startling delicious sweet and spicy flavors. As a pizza snob from New Haven, CT, I am picky about my pizza. Color me impressed. - Grilled Red Snapper, $42 (2*) How sad to finish the meal with an overcooked, overly salty piece of red snapper. - Value (3*) I found the meatballs and salumi board overpriced. Everything else was just right. - Final Word If I had only eaten the appetizers, and the service were a bit smoother, this would easily be 5*. Lots of locals I know love this spot while I've just found it to be mediocre to good. For the Oxford, MS area I would rate it as good but I never had anything I would rate as great. The service has always been perfectly acceptable other than on home game weekends when everywhere gets insanely crowded. The drink prices are like most places around the Oxford Square these days which means rather overpriced. I really wanted to like this place, especially because we've been here numerous times. Unfortunately, each visit has been worse than the last lately. The service and food have been steadily declining, and it's starting to feel like they're resting on their morals instead of trying to maintain the quality they used to have. Our most recent visit was the final straw. The pizza arrived cold--not lukewarm, but actually cold. When I brought it to the manager, Spencer, he couldn't have cared less. He was rude, condescending, and talked to me like I was inconveniencing him by asking for basic, hot food. His attitude honestly reminded me of a used-car salesman during Covid--impatient, dismissive, and acting like he's doing me a favor by even acknowledging the issue. Between the cold pizza, the declining experience, and Spencer's disrespectful tone, we won't be back. read more

I can't believe I've never done a review here. But here goes. We are from Atlanta and have lots of fabulous restaurants. This was likely my tenth time to visit St Leo's. I'll start with this visit. New item on menu-- roasted Brussels on chili oil and truffle mayo. These were crispy flavorful and a five star item. Would get these every time. We also got the pizza sausage pepperoni and speck and added hot honey. This was very good. Was it better than our atlanta brick over restaurant pizzas ? No. But it was the best dinner item I have had here. Cocktails. Amazing bartenders who know their business. They are willing to make it to your specific requests. Five stars. Old visits. White beans. Just terrible. Enough said. Pastas: good not great and very small portions. Caesar: we are super picky Caesar critics and this one was below average. Wouldn't order it here ever again. I ate at St. Leo while in Oxford for a brief visit. The entire experience was good, but not "wow." I sat at the bar. One bar tender was friendly, but the others were essentially non-interactive. The beer selection was average. I ordered the roasted Brussels sprouts. They were roasted nicely, but too much aioli. I also got the pepperoni, sausage and speck pizza. I was disappointed in the crust. It did not have enough body to it and was too floppy in the middle. The meat toppings were also unremarkable and lacking in flavor. Overall, I think this place has real potential but it needs to up its game to get to the 4-5 star level. read more

Oxford is such an odd place but the dining scene seemed good. This place had a great ambiance, wonderful service, and good food. Buratta was the best thing we had. Chopped salad was great too. The pizza was mid to me, it was extremely runny and floppy so hard to eat and keep all the ingredients on it. It wasn't bad by any means but it just looks way better that it was. Oxford is somewhat central (and a cool destination) between myself and a few coworkers, so we sometimes use it as a meet-up destination for a Christmas lunch, work anniversary dinners, and so forth. I've been to most of the restaurants on the square, and they're good. Saint Leo, however, is great. I loved the ambiance. Many different seating options for whatever vibe you're after. The food was scrumptious and the menu, while fairly compact, had something for any type of craving. From pizza to pasta to proteins, they have you covered. Service was very good. Our server knew the menu inside and out, which was great, because the cocktail menu might as well be written in a foreign language (fancy cocktails with lesser known ingredients.) That said, the translation was worth the effort because the cocktails were amazing. We'll definitely be back! read more

Came here on brunch, it was a rainy morning so that may have been why we were seated so quickly. However, it took over 10 minutes for our server to come and that was a bit sketch to me. The brunch menu is limited. I will say, the avocado toast is a 10/10. From the eggs.. bread. Perfect. Our other guest had a salad and he raved about how fresh it was. My dish was described as a pancake but it tasted like bread pudding. I love bread pudding, but it wasn't what I was expecting for my first meal of the day. I won't get this again. Typically my go to when my family or friends are in town. However, we went last night for dinner with my sister and her boyfriend who were in town for Thanksgiving. Food was great as always, but the waitress was so condescending and rude to us over ordering (1) a blueberry lemon drop martini and (2) a chicken breast instead of the shaved chicken in our salad. Both of which we always do when we go there. Additionally, the place is not the biggest which I assume the waitress would understand, and she blatantly went to another coworker in front of us and chastised our order and laughing and gossiping about us. Food was great but if you're looking for genuine decent customer service, then don't come here unless you want to be spoken to condescendingly and treated poorly. read more

This is such an Ole Miss sorority (and their parents) spot, but we needed a late lunch in Oxford on a Sunday, and those are hard to come by. Food was super rich, tons of butter. Needed a couple bottles pink champagne to cut through the heavy, but we had miles to go before we slept. Come to think of it, we were about the only folks in the restaurant not drinking. The room is essentially a big bar with TVs in the center--and white tablecloths--so it covers a lot of ground. Best advice--drink up! read more

The service is always top notch. I've visited Saint Leo quite a few times. My most recent visit was for a birthday dinner at the end of April. Great place on the square in Oxford. We popped down there without reservations on a Wednesday night. I recommend getting reservations or you'll be in the bar, which is cool but the chairs are uncomfortable. They had plenty of open booths but one hostess was quick to hush the other when she pointed that out. Extensive wine list, beer options are all IPAs that frankly I don't like. Pizza was good-very NY style with the super thin crust. Not sure I'd drop $20 on this again. Their pasta was what brought us here as my work colleague had it previously and was craving it. She loved it but I have to be honest, $40 for a bowl of bolognese and a glass of red seems a bit much, coming from a girl who has been to Italy and had the real deal. All in all, good atmosphere and food but I think if we find ourselves in the square again we'll try another spot. read more

Lovely spot in downtown Oxford. It has a NY vibe but without the tables being on top of each other as they would be in NY:). The service was great and the entire staff was attentive and friendly. Food fit for a saint in a classy Southern atmosphere. Well run, clean, and maintained. The service is prompt and professional. I had the proscuitto and arugula pizza which tasted brick oven cooked and had charred crust. The proscuitto and dry crust balanced nicely balanced each other. The arugula was like a small salad piled atop of the pizza which I ate after the pizza. While a creative touch, I would have preferred it either come separately or be apportioned and spread throughout. The presentation went well, however. I was there on a Saturday around noon during spring break week at nearby University of Mississippi. The seating was at roughly a quarter capacity. Most of that quarter consistent of two separate groups of about six and eight women respectively. The women traversed groups and exclamed, "show me the rock" (by which she meant wedding ring). Another woman at the bar inspected a different woman's ring. Must be a Southern thing to make a spectacle of inspecting one ring? Or perhaps Saint Leo knows Cupid.
