Fig Galette

A lovely experience. We ordered the oysters to start which is a must try as they are shucking them on site at the front of the restaurant. I had the strip steak which came sliced and the sauce was amazing. I was stuffed and on the fence about dessert but got the fig pictured this is the best dessert I've ever had. Save room!

The fact that this restaurant is in a mini mall is off-putting, but they certainly make up for it with the food and service, both of which were excellent. The young hostess in a rose-colored dress greeted us with a big smile when we walked in, and our waiter (tall guy with a beard) had that great mix of friendly, professional, and attentive. The owners have done a good job of creating a tavern-like, old world ambience with wood finishes, deer and other animal mounts, as well as low, warm lighting. There was a little girl at the bar who looked to be about 6. Where I am from in CA, kids are not allowed to sit at bars, so that was kind of interesting and cute at the same time. My ONLY complaint about this place is the toilet in the men's room. While there, I went into both the men's and the women's bathrooms (we have unisex restrooms in CA). The women's toilet looked pristine and clean while the men's toilet seat looked decayed, diseased, and disgusting. Seriously, you can get a new one from Amazon for about $35 bucks. It's a small price to pay to send the message to customers that cleanliness and aesthetics are important.

Delicious food choices that have unusual combinations but work seamlessly. The oyster bar is great and lots of fun. Great libations too!

Top 5 restaurant in Oxford overall! It is the best seafood restaurant in town though and very close to the square!

We came for brunch on a Saturday and ordered three excellent dishes:…read more - Bacon Jam & Calabrian Chili Honey Pizza - Exceptional flavor, crispy, and well balanced - Mountain of Fries - While I'm partial to the thicker variety, these thin fries were top-notch. And it was truly a hulking mountain of fries! - Avocado toast - One of the best we've ever tried So we loved the food and the service was exceptional. And it was also very affordable - before tipping, we paid $61 for a three-person meal (3 entrées, only water). This is the best dining experience we've had in Mississippi so far. Highly recommended!

The service and food have been steadily declining, and it's starting to feel like they're resting on their morals instead of trying to maintain the quality they used to have. Our most recent visit was the final straw. The pizza arrived cold--not lukewarm, but actually cold. When I brought it to the manager, Spencer, he couldn't have cared less. He was rude, condescending, and talked to me like I was inconveniencing him by asking for basic, hot food. His attitude honestly reminded me of a used-car salesman during Covid--impatient, dismissive, and acting like he's doing me a favor by even acknowledging the issue. Between the cold pizza, the declining experience, and Spencer's disrespectful tone, we won't be back.

The menu features a broad range of options, showcasing both classic and innovative dishes made from fresh ingredients. Each dish(catfish plate, chicken Alfredo, wing plate, boudin eggs rolls & that velvet punch) we chose was carefully prepared and beautifully presented, highlighting the attention to detail. The service was consistently friendly and attentive, contributing to a welcoming environment. Overall, The Velvet Ditch provides excellent value for money, making it a highly recommended spot for those looking to enjoy a memorable meal.

The Velvet Ditch located in downtown Oxford, The Square…read more This is a typical college bar type restaurant with outdoor beer garden and seating with televisions and a raucous crowd. We came in to taste the local flair while on an Ole Miss college tour. The wait was lengthy however you could still stand at the bar and have a drink while you waited. We ordered a round of beers and checked out the place and the people. The bartenders were very nice, a lot of southern hospitality in this town. We were finally seated and ordered a seafood platter and a few orders of seafood gumbo. The gumbo was absolutely delicious. Shrimp that tasted amazing and sausage with great flavor. Rice cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The seafood platter in my opinion, not worth the money. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. Coming from vegas the bar is set high on dining out as we have the best of the best in our city when it comes to places to eat. While this was a fun place to hang, it's expensive for a college town. The ahi tuna nachos at this place are absolutely amazing and a must try. Best thing I ate there. A ton of Ahi and a huge portion. There was more ahi than chips. Clean place, fair service at the tables, waitress delivered 4 entrees and saint bring the 11 year olds dinner. He sat for 15 minutes and I had to hunt her down to ask where the kids food was. Serve everyone at the same time, it's rude not to. This was a big annoyance for me as the child sits with no food while everyone else is eating for 15-20 minutes.
