Big Bad Breakfast is one of my favorite breakfast stops in Oxford! It's very popular, especially on the weekends, so I definitely recommend getting on the online waitlist before you arrive. If you do have a wait, there's usually plenty to do nearby. There is sometimes a farmers market set up outside in the parking lot, and there's a fun antique shop nearby that we like to browse while waiting for our table. The food is always worth the wait. The spicy bacon is my favorite side. Service has always been good, and it's one of those places we continue coming back to. read more

We came here once when we visited Oxford about 11 years ago. We wanted to be sure we came back. The breakfast was excellent! I got the eggs Benedict on biscuits. My friend got biscuits and scrambled eggs with bacon. The coffee was of course great and the surface was fast. We were so glad that we got there on the morning as soon as they opened. First in this morning at a totally unassuming strip mall for the best breakfast I've put in my mouth and a good ole hot cup of coffee. Booths, tables and outdoor seating. Normally hit this place up when in town, may be my last. Have always seemed short staffed and more so this time. Our server didn't really listen and kept saying this would be better/cheaper if we order something specific. My friend ordered the tomato gravy and asked for 2 biscuits and got one. I asked for a side of biscuits and sausage gravy and I got the plate with the grits. The grits were good tho! 5/5 Breakfast gumbo was interesting. This place gets really busy at brunch. Find a seat at the counter, that's easily available. I like sitting at the counter, I get to see what comes out and visually decide what to get . Ya know some times you have to visit a restaurant several times to know how/what to order... I think this is the case for me with BBB. I had the BBB... eggs over easy were cooked perfectly. I chose toast over the biscuit and it was two half pieces of thick toast. I'd rather have 4 thin pieces of thin toast. I chose the sausage and it was too spicy for my taste. I also opted for the hash brown cakes... they had an odd taste that I can describe.... Not sure if they were cooked in old grease.... This is definitely a 5-star place for its food and service and funky, high energy atmosphere. If you don't have an abundance of time, however, you need to try another option. My DIL got us on the waitlist at 8:30 and we were seated at 11:15. I suspect if you go more frequently you would have a better idea of how to maneuver this. Once seated we had an exceptional breakfast. 2 of our party of 5 had to get theirs to go in order to get back to Franklin, TN by 3, but the 3 of us who remained enjoyed fresh squeezed OJ, good coffee, huevos rancheros, and BBB plates with eggs, bacon, hash browns, fruit, and biscuits and gravy. My huevos rancheros were perhaps the best I've ever had, and I lived in Texas and New Mexico for 12 years so have had an abundance. Our server was terrific, no-nonsense, pleasant, efficient, likable. The food was delicious, but not hot. It was lukewarm at best. The rolls were great! Their hash browns are incredible! The BLT omelet is top notch and I love my huevos rancheros. Everything had amazing flavor and we loved our meal. However, the service was absolutely terrible. She checked on us to get us drinks at first, then never again. Someone else delivered our lukewarm food to us and then we had to hunt our waitress down for food. We're not easy to please so this was pretty disappointing especially when our waitress would walk right past us to go to another table. It was frustrating. I would recommend this place but definitely not worth a 2 hour wait unless you add yourself to the waitlist. read more

Before attending the Ole Miss versus Mississippi State football game, my dad, husband, and I came to Big Bad Breakfast. Luckily, I was able to join the waitlist prior to our arrival and I was glad I did because there was quite a long wait given that it was game day. Once we were finally seated, the service was very fast and extremely friendly. I opted to try their biscuits and gravy, adding some scrambled eggs and a side of andouille sausage. The biscuits and gravy were absolutely delicious and total comfort food. The andouille sausage had a nice spice to it and was the perfect protein boost I was looking for. Everything on the menu looked divine and I truly don't think you can go wrong with anything you would order from this place. But if you come for brunch on a weekend, especially before a college football game, be prepared to wait. read more

Here's a tip- there was no line at 7:45am today (Wednesday) when I pulled into the plaza that the establishment resides. I walk in the door and was immediately greeted by a friendly guy who seated me at the bar. I order a bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit with a side of fruit. It was a great meal. And, I will add that the fruit side was full of honeydew melon, which most of the time I consider the black licorice of the fruit world but it was INCREDIBLE. I found the staff warm and engaging. I went on Yelp to make a reservation bc of the rave reviews and it stated that the waitlist was closed so we headed over to the restaurant anyway. Prior to our arrival at this restaurant, I sent a message to the manager asking if she could add us to the list if she had availability. By the time she responded stating that there was a 5-15 minute wait, we had already arrived at the restaurant and got on the waiting list. The hostess told us that it would be 3 minutes. 1/2 hr in, still waiting we asked the hostess when we would be seated and she claimed that she didn't tell us 3 minutes but that she told us 30 minutes. So we patiently waited and she seated us after an hour at an outdoor table. Unfortunately, the wind was blowing and dirt and hair was landing all over our water glasses so we asked to be seated inside. They seated us inside on the right side of the restaurant where there were a ton of open tables. We ordered our food and I ordered the chicken and waffles that they claim on their menu is better than Roscoes in LA. My husband ordered the creole omelette, and when our food finally arrived, the chicken was very crispy and it looked really good but it was a complete disappointment. The chicken was grossly overcooked and what little there was of the meat inside was stringy, signs of a bird that was not properly raised. His omelette was just MEH. Our waitress was scatterbrained and we had to ask for sugar, creamer, and spoon and by the time she brought each on several trips by themselves, the coffee was cold so we had to order another cup of coffee that came w/no sugar or spoon. We did not get silverware and had to ask for that with our meal. The end result was that I did not eat my meal and my husband ate half of his omelette heading out on a 2 1/2 hr trip. I do, however, appreciate that they took the chicken and waffles off of our check, but as much as I wanted to love it, I would never eat here again. The wait staff were very pleasant. Just the facts. Big Bad Breakfast - Oxford (BBB) was open until 2:30p on the Sunday we went. We (two of us) arrived at approximately 1:35p. The host told us it would be a 20 minute wait. It was about 20 minutes. We were seated at the bar. Our waiter informed us they were out of chicken. We both ordered dishes with biscuits and a side of grits and no chicken. About 30 minutes after taking our order our waiter came to us and said they were out of grits, but our food was "ready to plate." We subbed our grits for fresh fruit. About five minutes later our waiter came to us and told us they "were out of biscuits, but our food was ready to plate." We subbed our biscuits for other breads. About five minutes after that we got our food. It was tasty, but the whole experience felt painfully drawn out and disappointing. We were really looking forward to biscuits. BBB states on their menu that their "famous, fluffy black pepper/buttermilk biscuits are made continually throughout the day." Given our experience, I believe this statement is false. Would not return and would not recommend to others. read more

If you can get a table in less than an hour consider yourself lucky. Best to avoid on game day weekends or parents weekends since this is where everyone and their mother will be. My favorite way to experience BBB is on a random weekday morning when it's fairly quiet. The quality starts at the ingredients. Firstly, if you're looking for thick cut and flavorful bacon you found it. The bacon is smokehouse cured in a Tabasco and brown sugar rub so it has a kick. Their grits are stone ground and the biscuits are flaky & fluffy. I bought my dad the Big Bad Breakfast cookbook and we even make the signature BBB biscuits from Texas. I'm a fan of the sausage gravy but I've heard good things about the red eye as well. When in doubt I go with the waffle, shrimp and grits, or the big bad breakfast skillet. Just come back more than once so you can try it all! read more

First visit but not the last! Party of 5 so we got a great overview. First get on the waitlist it works great. Second we sat outside as weather was fantastic Sunday after an Ole Miss win! The inside looked busy but nice. Bathrooms were clean. Kitchen was dated, busy and clean. Staff was fantastic. Lots of parking. But who cares about all that how is the Food? I had the Creole omelette with sweet potatoes hash. The omelette was out of this world, very tasty. Hash was meh but I was not looking for anything shocking. The biscuit was fantastic ( I ordered 2 more) I got the coffee and milk cold brew. It was good. Two of my guests loved the Vietnamese coffee ( very sweet) one enjoyed a scramble bowl and said it was like a deconstructed omelette with biscuit. The other got Avocado toast and loved it. I was struck by the very generous serving and vibrant colors. My wife got the bacon and French toast, it looked fantastic and she loved every bite. Her greatest joy was the little kick the bacon had with a sweet finish. My son is the odd duck fried chicken and fries with hot chocolate. He ate everything and said he enjoyed it but honestly he was more about the table of toys they had out to keep waiting kids occupied. All in all great choice, 5 star for breakfast or brunch.
