This place has all the potential in the world. Great atmosphere, solid brews on draft, good service, great songs playing on the speakers, but food was way below average. The chicken sandwich...possibly the worst I've ever had. I don't know if I got a bad piece or what, but it was chewy. Almost like it wasn't cooked all the way through. This place would have gotten at least 4 stars if the food was even halfway decent. But it was not. I'd give this place a 4.95 rating--here's why. The location is excellent, just about a block from the heart of the courthouse square in Oxford. I actually spotted it from the bookstore balcony across the street, which made for a great first impression. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, offering thoughtful recommendations from the menu. Since I was dining solo, I grabbed a seat at the bar, which worked out perfectly. I started with a small Caesar salad. It was definitely on the smaller side, but surprisingly flavorful--especially if you enjoy a strong garlic profile. For my main dish, I built my own pizza: pesto base, mozzarella, Parmesan, pepperoni, red tomatoes, and a hot spicy honey drizzle. The flavor combination was outstanding--really well balanced and memorable. The only drawback was the crust, which was a bit soft and seemed slightly undercooked. The wait time was reasonable, around 15-20 minutes. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot, especially if you're with a group. It does get a bit loud, so it may not be ideal for a quiet date night. I visited on a Friday, and they closed at 8 PM due to a live band, which added to the lively atmosphere. I've dined at Proud Larry's enough to expect trend over substance. Many people go for the chill vibe and live music. I generally go for the patio seating (the first in Oxford, many, many moons ago). The menu has a decent variety of traditional bar food + salad and pizza options. The prices are fair and service is generally good. This visit, however, was a bit disappointing First off, on a Thursday at opening (11am), there was no wait. I opted for a patio seat and was greeted within five minutes (not as quick as I would have expected given there was only one other table in the restaurant). I ordered a soda and a Margherita pizza. The pizza was not as expected. The "fresh basil" was almost nonexistent and the tomato was chopped. The crust was hard and flavorless. The menu was somewhat limited compared to previous visits. Secondarily, construction work was going on overhead and it (some white substance) was landing all over my table, personal items, and food. When i brought it to the waitress's attention, she didn't apologize, offer a patio umbrella or anything else. I ultimately decided to leave since I wasn't enjoying the food anyway. I'll probably be back if for no reason other than location, but this particular visit wasn't good. read more

We joined some friends here for lunch on an early Saturday afternoon. Two of us ordered burgers, one ordered a roast beef sandwich and another the Philly cheese steak. Highly recommend the burger with sweet potato fries! No one of us came close to clearing our plates, but we gave it a valiant effort. The food is good. The service was average. For some reason, our waitress switched sections mid-meal and another one took over our table. Both were nice enough, but we missed out on important refills during the transition. That's the reason for four stars instead of five. We were seated with no wait, but it was packed by the time we left. The Ole Miss men's basketball team was playing at home that night, so the square was very busy by mid-afternoon. Best advice: plan accordingly when the home team is home! read more

I have eaten at this restaurant since it opened. I have always enjoyed the food and the service. But tonight the service was good and the food was good but the experience was horrible. We were seated upstairs with a large group of young people that were screaming and hollering. Since Duke and North Carolina were playing with seconds left, I thought the hollering was about the game, but when it was over, it got worse. Screaming and yelling at each other like 5 year olds at daycare. Even after they got their food, they kept this up. We received our pizza and ate without being able to carry on a conversation because of the noise. When I asked for the check, we talked to the server and she said they had been there for about 2 hours and she apologized for the noise. I asked to speak to the manager and he basically said there was nothing he could do and actually told to me that I should have asked to be seated somewhere else. But my question is: Why even seat someone up there when you know there is a problem? These people had no regard whatsoever for other patrons and the manager didn't see a problem. He could not tell my friend what was on tap and asked what he usually drinks. There looked to be only 5 or 6 beers on tap. A beer list was all that was needed. Love the food. Everything about this place is phenomenal. Love the Broccoli Cheese Soup. One of the better soups I had in months. Whilst, the bread is also amazing. I thought it would be one of those breads that are pretty basic--but NO! Another thing is that my Alfredo was great. At first, I was kinda iffy about my dish because it didn't tasted great, but as I told the waitress about the food she actually took care of it and talked to the chef. They handed me a better much tasting Alfredo sauce that made the meal 100x better. I also like the server Mary. She's a very great waitress, that she REALLY does make sure that her table is very well satisfied and having a great time. All in all, I'm a first timer in this place and I will definitely for sure come back. I highly recommend this place if you're just visiting town and would love to have a wonderful meal. But if you're from the town--you are so lucky to have a restaurant that is so bujee! Again, had a great time and would highly recommend checking them out. read more

We had a terrific gameday experience here last weekend: they were jam packed because of the football crowd from both Ole Miss and A&M, but the hostess was very pleasant, calm, and efficient. We enjoyed a drink from the bar and watched some football as we waited 30-45 minutes. We were seated upstairs, which was a little less hectic. Our server, Cody, was very good, comfortable, eager to please. We split a very good small green salad, then my wife had the Mediterranean pizza on gluten free crust that she said was delicious. I had the chicken pesto pizza, which was perfectly prepared and cooked. Neither of us was able to finish our pizzas; they are sizeable and no skimping on ingredients. Everyone on their staff was so attentive and genuinely cheerful in spite of the overwhelming crowd. Been here multiple times. A really fun, small local venue for bands/concerts. Would highly recommend coming to see a show here. If you're here for food, the pizza is a good bet. It hasn't disappointed and been really good every time I have had it. The sweet potato fries are really good here. However, I recently tried the chicken Alfredo and I think it's a joke of a meal. The chicken was rubbery and looked like it came from a can and the pasta itself was way to salty. You'll find me coming back for shows but probably not much for food. read more

Sadly had a bad experience here. My burger came out cold and they wouldn't let my party of 6 sit together (which was fine) we were split 4 and 2 at two different tables. We were not at the same table nor did we order together/at the same time but she still charged us a large party fee. Our waitress Logan didn't even know we were together until after one table got their food. We asked if we could cancel our order and she claimed it was already plated so we asked for a box so our friends wouldn't have to wait! When we received our check she charged us all for a large party fee. She claimed that since we asked to cancel/box our food the kitchen had to rush our order "since we were together" Keep in mind she said the food was already plated. She overall just made the experience not great and simply was not understanding. It also took our burger and quesadilla 40 minutes to come out!
