Honestly, one of the best restaurants I've ever eaten in. The service was great. We had a smoked oyster platter for an appetizer and I had the smoked ribeye and it was big and absolutely delicious with the truffle fries. Had a banana cream cake with a Bischoff cookies layer for dessert. My only knock was the duck fat old-fashioned. It was really not enjoyable and waitress could tell so she replaced it with a regular old-fashioned. I honestly cannot see any reason anyone would do that to whiskey. The ambience was really neat old wood walls and a very big bar. You will likely need a reservation if you go here. read more

My wife has been wanting to try this place for awhile. We decided to visit this restaurant on 2/13 for our Valentine's dinner. Every time I see a burger on the menu and they say they will cook it medium rare I order it. It was cooked to perfection my wife had the short rib and it was excellent as well. One of the most underrated eats in Oxford, MS. Erika the chef is so creative and often updates the menu with local ingredients. From fresh fish to royal red pasta, there's usually something for everyone. However there are dishes that are "wild", but usually are the best ones with explosions of flavor. You can literally taste the love and time put into everything. My favorites usually include Chinese dishes with southern flares. (I'm looking at you ducky dumplings and kimchi tots) They're so creative and always keep me coming back for more. In town for the Ole Miss/Bama game and had a wonderful dinner at SoLa both nights. We had great service both at the bar and seated at a booth. Highly recommend the Texas Toothpicks, Brussels, Grouper (special), Short Ribs (also special) and Truffle Pasta. And why not finish with the Key Lime Pie?!? The chef is amazing. I really wanted to love this place. It's cute and small and the food always looks so interesting online in photos. But alas. It was disappointing. The place is small which is fine and cozy. But the lack of sound dampening materials make it extremely loud. A space can be lively without being painfully loud. We started with a cocktail order. Mine did not arrive until after the entrees and after I asked the entree server to please check on it. My starter Cesar salad was much too wet and had an odd flavor. Too mayonnaisey? Or something? I don't know. It wasn't bright and delicious as Cesar dressing usually is. It was heavy and heavy handed. My husband got the mushroom ravioli with crab and shrimp. It was oddly flavorless. Bland. The toasted bread crumbs gave it a sandy mouth feel which is off putting for a seafood dish. Is it the breadcrumbs? Or is the seafood not clean? Who can tell. My steak was delicious. They recommend medium which is past my usual preference of medium rare but I accepted their recommendation. Alas it was more well done so much more cooked than I like. The flavor was good however. We weren't super impressed with the meal overall or the overlooked cocktail. I will add when it arrived, there was no apology for its late arrival. It just arrived. I did not even drink it all because I'm not a fan of chugging a cocktail with my entree. So it felt like wasted spending. We expected more from a place with a limited menu. read more

If you like variety, curry and duck in a dumpling....you must visit Sola. There's plenty of street parking and room to walk around the square at your leisure before and after. Crappy service from the get go. We went a few weeks ago. It took forever to get anyone to come to the table and then the wine took forever. They brought out the food and they'd brought my mom the wrong order. Oh, and they brought out the food and we had no napkin or utensils. They put in for her order. My aunt and I were done when they brought hers out. The bill comes; they never addressed it; and they'd discounted her meal by 50%. We asked for a comp, and they said no. 6 drinks, oysters and deserts, 3 entrees, and they wouldn't comp the entree they messed up. I'll never go back. SoLa has become a near weekly date night spot for us. We normally ALWAYS hit up ramen night (Thursdays). The specials are always changing and I haven't had anything that wasn't delicious and adventurous as far as Oxford food goes. We usually go during happy hour to get $5 margs. First time back since the change from the Wine Bar, Had a friend I served with overseas in town an he was looking for a great meal. We had speciality cocktails, heavy apps and entrees. I had the marrow noodles and he the pork chop, both dishes were flavorful and presented very well, our waitress was professional, knowledgeable and friendly. The drinks were crafted and mixed very well. If you are tired of trying to find a special dinner spot, come to SoLa. I've been in twice. The first time even though the place was empty they didn't want to seat a party of one. The second time I went back with friends and asked for a table towards the back and they said no even though it was empty. They have the wrong menu online and a happy hour menu that they no longer do. The server had an attitude even when my friend simply asked for a glass of ice. Server was always rude. The food was not good. I'm amazed this place is still in business with how many good places there are in Oxford. The first words out of my mouth before I even had a chance to swallow my first bite were "holy shit". The truffle bone marrow noodles were AMAZING. Definitely rich in flavor but unbelievably delicious. My boyfriend is from Sweden and, although he's very adventurous with food, he's very judgmental. If he raves about something, then it's safe to say it's amazing. My Swedish boyfriend is a burger snob and he asked me to make it very clear to everyone reading this that the Sola Burger wow'd him in a way that many burger restaurants fail to do. And Sola isn't even a burger joint. The chef, Erika Lipe, has a way with fresh ingredients and flavors that turn something often ordinary into something memorable. He's been on the hunt for a great American style burger for him to have his family try when they fly over from Sweden later this year. He said very confidentially after the first bite, "this is the place". The first time I took him here was for brunch. He's not much of a breakfast eater but he did not shut up the entire time about how great his meal was while we were there for brunch. Just another example of something as generic as breakfast turned into a mouthful of stimulated tastebuds. Customer service was impeccable as always. You don't feel rushed to finish and the staff is super knowledgeable about the food and drinks creation process so they're able to answer any and all questions you might have. VERY accommodating, which is exactly what Oxford needs more of given the current climate of greedy, incompetent bureaucratic officials. We are very much looking forward to our next trip to Oxford so that we can try more of the dinner menu at Sola!!!! read more
