When it came to service however, it was severely lacking. Slow, understaffed and rude. I like to look at how a restaurant or bar's higher staff treat their employees. Bar Fontaine's managing staff should be VERY ashamed. I heard management tell off a server and bartender for making a very basic mistake and when I asked them how they liked working there, they simply replied "if I could do it over I would." According to them, the management is super nice to the customers but not to the employees constantly starting drama and making it difficult for an employee to keep their job. The head chef is also apparently a real a-hole and says inappropriate suggestive comments to their female staff as well, the server was telling me. When I was walking out of the hotel on the last day of my stay I encountered one of the managers and talked to them to see how they would treat me. It was an older woman with glasses. She treated me like an old friend which normally I would have enjoyed but this time I was absolutely disgusted. Just from what I was told, I will not be giving service to them again and will not stay at the hotel.

I was intrigued after hearing how he cooked it, thinking it was just going to be some type of tomato-based soup. So, I ordered a cup. Then I kept looking at the "Jacked-Up Oysters," which Shawn guaranteed that I would love. So, I ordered a half-dozen, thinking that I was wasting my money. I took it to go because again I was tired and wanted to get back to the hotel. Let me tell you, the Gumbo was absolutely tantalizing with just the right amount of spice to let you know you are tasting something special. It was nothing as I had anticipated. Also, for the person who is not a real "oyster person," I ate those oysters like there was no tomorrow; like they were the last oysters on earth or like I stole something. Okay, I would NEVER steal anything; not my thing. Life is worth living to the fullest and experiencing it. Chef Shawn, you did your thing, "sir". I can't wait to come back to try other dishes there while I'm traveling. When we asked why we were seated in the ballroom, we were told that it was a way for the hotel to capture additional business and take advantage of an otherwise missed opportunity. While we understand the business reasoning, guests should be informed of this arrangement when making their reservations rather than having it come as an unpleasant surprise upon arrival. If you're making a reservation here during a football weekend, be sure to ask where you will actually be seated and whether the setting is the restaurant you were expecting. Don't assume that being seated in a ballroom with TVs will be suitable for everyone--especially when celebrating a birthday or other special occasion. The food is delicious, the beer is cold and plentiful, and it is a great place to watch a game, grab a meal, or just sit around and talk with friends. It also happens to be the first place I ate when I came to Oxford looking for apartments, so it will always have a fond spot in my heart. It is not fancy, and that is exactly why I like it. Hungry?
