Issues of generational bias, absence of empathy, compassion and awareness of possible medical emergencies with a new hire female bartender. Recently a 73 year old who has been a patron for 40 years ordered a glass of wine after walking one mile from his home nearby. He suffers from diabetes, heart issues, COPD, asthma, arthritis and has recently had severe reactions to the abnormally high pollen count. He was served his normal glass of wine sitting 10 feet away at the corner of the bar near the pool table. He was waiting for his 72 year old friend with a heart condition who is also been a patron for 40 years. They always meet every Wednesday. Unfortunately this patron had a severe sudden flare up where he was struggling to breathe and started to panic as mucus blocked his airway. He coughed loudly and couldn't clear his airways and kept attempting to and was in pain. He did not have the strength to go outside to finish getting his breath. Instead of offering him a glass of water during his panic attack for air and asking him if he was okay or needed a call for emergency help the bartender said "I don't like hearing you cough like that. Don't clear your throat like that ". She immediatly refunded his money for the wine and asked him to leave. Fortunately his friend arrived and helped him home. What a fun experience and great food. Quirky and fun decor, it was clean. Drinks and food came out on time and proper temperature.

The bartender was very unprofessional and will never be back here I recommend don't waste your money or time. It sucks.

Don't allow venues to bully you and not know the ADA rules of owning and having employees that are not educated working for you. We were in the area on a motorcycle ride and found this place on Yelp .. under dive bar .. cold beer & a generous pour of Jack Daniels exactly what we were looking for.. nothing fancy. We ordered BBQ lunch from Marios located next door ( out front to the left of the front door) ... I wasn't sure if we could eat in the bar & the guy at the BBQ place assured me it was not a problem.. he handed me a menu and let me know he'd be in to take our order.. in no time we were enjoying our BBQ, cold drinks, football on tv.. Definitely a dive bar, where the locals hang out and the bartender knows their drink order, country music on the jukebox.. good times!! read more

Walks in and sits at bar Bartender (wearing a "hi, I'm Kayla" Walmart tag, later found out names chuck.) what do you want? Me: hi, beer, corona please. "Bartender": walks away and comes back without a word with my corona. Me: thanks! Leaves a tip. "Bartender" : grabs my tip doesn't say a word and walks away. Didn't see this kid for a while and didn't even acknowledge me. It took everything inside of me to not reach over and slap this kid. I guess this is how we do it in Arizona huh? Maybe it's because I'm Hispanic and decided to come get a beer after so much time of serving this country, I just wanted a beer. This cute little dive bar is clean and attentive and has a great back patio with multicolored party lights with smoking allowed.

The bar was cheap and the bartender friendly. The BBQ was great, we tried the brisket and pulled pork and that sauce was delicious. Definite must stop if you are headed to or through Payson. read more

We came here after our car broke down on the way to Pine Top and we were waiting for the diagnosis from the mechanic down the street. We had our 10 month old daughter with us as you can imagine an awkward place to probably stop by and get lunch. Not at all. I believe our bartender's name was Michelle or Missy, I am sorry I cannot remember it. But we received the small town hospitality from her and everyone at Spurs that afternoon. I believe at least 6 of the lovely women there held our daughter, including Michelle!! I grew up in a small town, so it was good to see that the mentality still exists out there. Just people helping people. I was very impressed with hospitality here because it was a very stressful day for us. I appreciate them giving us laughs and easing our minds for a few hours. read more

Wonderful small town bar with an at home feel. The owner, bartenders, and locals really make for a great environment. They can play satellite music of your genre taste, drop some coins in their jukebox, or even have a tablet, phone, iPod, or etch, they can play YOUR PERSONAL music even; over their indoor/outdoor surround sound speakers. This place is well lit and so clean. They have 2 pool tables right as you walk in the front door and shuffleboard too. As well as the classics they also have a 1/2 player PAC-man machine. Clean and private restrooms are a THUMBS UP!! As far as beer and spirits; they have all the Top Shelf and about 30 different flavors in Top Shelf Smirnoff Vodka Alone, bottled and canned of most domestics and common imports. They even have a Domestic Tap with 8 different favorites: even Stella :). As for their specialties or seasonal, they ALWAYS have a great appropriate selection always at least 6 to choose from. The owner even makes homemade BISCUITS & GRAVY every Saturday and Sunday mornings, fresh each morning! They are always so involved with the community and have great relationships with other bars and saloons in the area. WE PRIDE OURSELVES IN HAVING EVERY AVAILABLE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAUGE GAME(S) PLAYING (as per available by t.v. provider) ON AS MANY AS ALL 4 OF OUR FLAT-SCREEN T.V.'S WITHOUT REQUEST. The Spur Bar really knows what they are doing. They have a huge outdoor space to entertain with. Actually a couple different spaces outside. In the winter time they have a wood stove burning in their Arizona Room which allows smoking. If your a smoker or just love sitting outdoors this is a great commodity with a customer controlled flat screen. The wonderful thing is that in the Spring and Summer their AZ Rooms breaks down into a GORGEOUS smoking potion with a cute little bar slab with tools and 4/5 great little tables witty 1-4 settings available at each. Besides this on the perimeter that is directly connected is a HUGE BEAUTIFUL AND GREAT BIG fenced in "backyard". It is so well thought out and the layout is so spacious, flattering, and accommodating. They have a wonderful shrubbery and foliage which makes it beautiful and comfortable, a decent covered band stand, basketball hoop, corn hole, hotshots, and even a fire pit in the cold months, that converts to giant flowerpot through the spring and summer months. Thought it couldn't possible get any better, gentlemen I am pleased to say their is even a outside complete stall urinal in the back for you animals (men). As for food, they have a great southwest BBQ Join that is accessible through the bar, the back yard, or its own little seating in the front parking. They have handicapped spaces available in the front as well as a large private parking lot around the back of the bar as well. As far as relaxation on a small town Saturday Afternoon/Night, this cool little joint it the nail on the head and really delivers!! Walk in because per yelp, this place is open on Sunday until 0200 and we have voluntarily (ugh) confined ourselves to the payson bar:restaurant scene tonight. Why!??? If I could of give it negative reviews I absolutely would!!! Long story short-needed to watch the broncos game and enjoy beer. #1-as far as I knew, smoking in bars was illegal in Az minus casinos and private clubs. Apparently the owner of spur bar classify themselves as one of these!!! Do NOT ENTER if you do not want to be overwhelmed by cigarettes. F*** this. I HATE SMOKING. I MIGHT consider reporting this to whatever regulatory body oversees this. Second, it's Sunday night, football is NOT ON! Wtf. Instead I get the hillbilly view of the presidential debate. Awesome-reason I fuck*** avoid rural Az as is. They have 14 beers in tap but the bartender will not willingly tell you what 14 taps they have. Instead he asks what beer you like, makes suggestions, and does not appreciate you choosing different. Chose this based on 5 stars but those reviews just have been from smoking locals because there a place truly sucks. As I type this review, I feel like I will asphyxiate on mother fing cigarette smoke. We went to the Spur on a Friday and went back on Saturday. The folks who work there make you feel like they have known you forever. They have horse shoes in the great patio area and you can get great BBQ from a little stand out front. On Saturday night there was a great band as well.
