What an absolutely brilliant concept to have this kind of one-stop shop in Kits! We were in town a few months ago for my hubby's bday week, and after a fun bike ride from downtown to Kitsilano through Stanley Park, we popped into TurF and had an awesome post-ride lunch. We wanted to try so many items off the menu, but here's what we got (and loved) that day: * Raspberry Peach Coconut Muffin * Mushroom Ricotta Toast * The Works (Smoothie Bowl) * Matcha Latte Everything was so delish, and we even went back for another muffin to take with us. My husband and I are vegan athletes and personal trainers so we truly appreciated that this cafe/bistro is mainly plant-based and has so many vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. After refueling our bodies for the rest of our bike ride, we checked out their boutique and I specifically knew that I wanted to try on Left of Friday swimwear (the only store that carries the brand in Vancouver). I've really enjoyed everything I've tried at Kokomo and this was no exception. The burrito was flavourful and very filling. More complex flavours than the usual Southwest-style bean burrito. Good vibes. The staff person up front was very friendly and always had a smile. The store design is bright and fun, and the tables were kept clean. Vegans, vegetarians, or those inclined toward plant-based eating will most appreciate Kokomo, but the food is interesting and objectively good enough the I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something different.

Went with my family for a bday brunch. So for anyone who doesn't know, the Hafla experience is an AYCE experience. Not the kind where everyone in the restaurant is walking around, selecting all of their foods to put on their plates and then walking back to their own table with it. For this experience, each person chooses one main entree for themselves and then the restaurant brings a whole bunch of other dishes to accompany that main entree. Everyone at the table has to participate in the Hafla. You cannot have 3 people ordering Hafla, and 4 people ordering from the regular A la Carte menu. It's meant to be a family style sharing experience. Oh my goodness. What an experience this was. They brought sooo many dishes to the table. If I could make one suggestion to the restaurant to improve the experience for their customers, it would be to get bigger tables for the Hafla! Holy smokes...there was sooo much food on the table. At one point, the waitress came out with some baskets of pita bread to go with our food and asked where to put them. Ummm...wherever you can find space?! We had lots of leftovers by the end of the meal. I think my daughter said she counted at least 15 boxes of leftovers! This wasn't just All You Can Eat. This was More Than You Can Eat, cuz we were all super full from everything that they brought to us, and we never needed to ask for anything to be refilled as we couldn't even finish what they'd brought to us initially. What a feast! As for the food itself. I think the one thing that kinda fell short a bit was the Chickpea fries. I'd had these once before from their food truck a few years ago. I really enjoyed it back then. This time however, the Chickpea fries were not as impressive. Everything else on the table though was excellent. I don't know where else in Vancouver you can get a plant based AYCE meal, and this one was very impressive. Some standouts for me were the Cauliflower of Life, Hatzil Baladi (charred eggplant), and Baba Ganoush. A few of us ordered some drinks and those were pretty impressive as well. My daughter's Lavender Lychee Lemonade looked so lovely and refreshing. For myself I ordered a Chai Latte made with oat milk, and that was excellent. Oh, and you know how sometimes restaurants have menus on their websites and the menus don't match what's on the printed menu in the actual restaurant? Well this was the first time I was actually happy to see that the menu in the restaurant was different cuz online it says that the Hafla costs $42 per person but when we got to the restaurant it turned out to be only $40 per person. In this day and age, when things are usually only ever getting more expensive, it was a real treat to see that something had actually gone down in price for once! Highly recommend this place. We came in around 9:00 PM, ordered quite a bit of food, and were enjoying our meal as usual. Around 9:45 PM, our server approached us with takeout boxes and told us we needed to be out in four minutes because they closed at 10:00 PM and she doesn't get paid after that. I understand wanting to leave on time and be compensated fairly for your work, but at that point there were still 15 minutes left before closing. Even after I pointed out the time, we continued to feel rushed throughout the remainder of our meal. As someone who has worked in the service industry for over 10 years, I could never imagine treating guests this way. I completely understand that staff want to finish their shifts and go home, but that is not the customer's responsibility. Rushing people out before closing, especially without any prior warning, can completely change the dining experience. The food was still fantastic, and my love for this restaurant remains, but this was one of the most disappointing and disrespectful service experiences I've had in a very long time. I'm genuinely saddened that an experience like this happened at a place I have always enjoyed and recommended to others.

The coupon only applied to hand helds so we got a plant based Chicken Bacon Caesar Wrap for my daughter and a Fully Loaded Sammy for myself. Added on some Chippy Parmesan Tots, a Mocha and a London Fog. Food was really good. Loved the flavors. I think the only thing that might have brought things up a notch would be if the plant based bacon had been crispier. Otherwise, everything was awesome. We loved our food so much. I was surprised to see my daughter eat both halves of her wrap. She's usually more of a light eater, but she finished both halves and was sooooo full for the rest of the day. My Fully Loaded Sammy was very filling as well so I was also very very full for the rest of the day. I liked that I was given an option to adjust the sweetness level of my London Fog drink. I'm used to having that option in Bubble Tea shops, but this was probably the first time I'd been offered that option for a non bubble tea drink, in a place that was not a bubble tea shop. The fruit cup was a bit over $4 from memory, but I remember being mildly shocked at the price considering the rather small size of it. The shrimp wrap was tasty enough, it had the sort of peanut sauce salad rolls are usually dipped into and a bit of pickled carrot etc. However, I found it skimpy on the shrimp - only a few paper-thin slices among the lettuce. In any case, I had business at Chapters/Indigo across the road so I ducked in to buy lunch before braving the holiday queues. I had the shrimp wrap in mind (felt like having a lighter, less carby lunch today), but was dissuaded after finding that it was something like $10.25. For essentially a wrap full of lettuce?? I settled for a black forest ham panini with brie. I didn't get to open the sandwich until I got back to my desk and I have to say I was rather dismayed. The sandwich was on the thinner side, not very generous with the meat. The bread was some baguette-y thing and not actual panini bread - despite her even saying it was "organic panini bread". The supposed "black forest ham" didn't seem to have the characteristic black outer rind on it, and might have been just typical lunch meat ham. A few perfunctory leaves of what was possibly spinach, and a chunk of brie somewhere in there. I ate the first half and didn't think much of it overall. When I got to the rest of it, I found not one, but TWO giant black hairs in the sandwich. Needless to say I lost my appetite. Two counts of false advertising and two strands of hair was enough to ascertain that I would not be a return customer. Even then, there was very little value in their overpriced, undersized sandwiches that boasted nothing but unremarkable flavors.

They aim for healthy, nutritional meals that are also super affordable, and who can complain about that? At first glance some of the prices seem fairly steep, but looking at their combo deals you realise how totally reasonable they are. Nicki and I shared the salmon salad sandwich and the chicken and crancherry sandwich, and I grabbed a quinoa salad boost to go with it. The sandwiches were both actually incredible! I haven't had a sandwich I've enjoyed that much in a long time. The salmon was (I think) my favourite - the fish is fresh, not canned, and you can really tell the difference. The salad boost was good, but it was a tad dry for my liking (I was also super full from the sandwich so it was my bad for eating too much!) The chicken was moist and delicious, and the sweetness of the crancherry was a perfect compliment. I also got one of their super fresh, super delicious juices - with cantaloupe, ginger, and turmeric, how can you resist??
