Went there a week ago for prime rib. We asked for it Medium, but what we got was shoe leather. We should have refused it, but we ate some and didn't want to make a scene. We go to Springtown a few times a year for the prime rib. Went tonight and ordered the princess cut and what came out was the equivalent of what you receive at a diner--tough and way overcooked. I asked for it as rare as possible and there was no pink to be found. I sent it back and ordered the filet mignon, which was better. No manager came over to apologize. I have dined at the Springtown Inn a number of times over the past 20 or so years. The appetizers are good, salads are good, everything is good. My favorite is the duck. Never dry and always crisp and perfectly done. I really have a struggle not ordering it every time I go there. If you are a fan of prime rib, this is the place for you. I have a pretty good appetite and the petite cut is enough to satisfy me. I ordered the queen cut once and had enough left over to make 2 more meals at home. Then there is the king cut. I've seen people order it and it is enormous. If it was any bigger, they would have to deliver it to your table with a fork lift. All kidding aside, I can honestly say I have never been disappointed with a meal. It's a place where I take friends and family. They also can do parties in the parlors up on the 2nd floor. Awful. Overpriced. Unable to produce most of the items on their own menu. We stopped for Sunday dinner around five thirty and were informed that because it was cold, they had no soup. Alright, it was a busy day, I can excuse that. We ordered appetizers. They were out of baked Brie, so we ordered smoked trout and wild mushroom tarts. The smoked trout was straight out of the cyrovac and the mushrooms were neither wild nor in tart form. White mushrooms in a red wine sauce with an undercooked roux dumped over puff pastry shells. We didn't fare much better with our entrees. I had ordered the short ribs which were twenty-eight dollars. Price rarely matters to me, but for what came out, I felt a little gipped. A huge pile of cold, lumpy mashed potatoes topped with candied carrots and gravy. Oh, and two small pieces of beef. The "Bolognese" was greasy hamburger on wet fettuccine. Second time going during restaurant week only to be disappointed again. It started off poor as no hostess to greet you, then finally sat down and took over 10miutes to get drink order for warm beer and no water at table. When we finally ordered, we were told they were out of main course that I was waiting to try. As we ate our salad, we thought about the last visit and decide we should order desert before they ran out of that too, only to find that was the case. Four of us ate at the Springtown Inn on Friday night, and it was dinner-done-wonderfully, from the food to the service! Our server, Randi, warmly welcomed us and took good care to make sure that we had whatever we needed during our time there. The new executive chef, Merv, is a true professional with an abundance of talent for creating delicious cuisine! Some of the items that we ordered were the crab au gratin, pasta primavera, a sliced steak/salad special, ribs, and we shared desserts. Everything was spot-on, delicious, and beautifully presented! My husband and I live pretty close to the Springtown Inn. Having grown up in the area, he had eaten at the Inn a number of times before and always enjoyed it. We were having dinner with my sister (who had also eaten here before). Having never had a meal at the Springtown Inn I was hoping for a decent experience and food since everyone that I had talked to enjoyed their time spent here. The location in Springtown is quite nice, and I love historic buildings so I was pleasantly surprised by how nicely kept the place is. We walked in the front door, into what would have originally been the homes foyer. We had called ahead for reservations (I don't think they are mandatory). Our hostess seated us in the dining room to the right of the front door. The room was pretty much full but even then the noise level was average. The atmosphere was definitely warm and cozy and it seemed that the people there were definitely in their "mature" years. We are in our 30's and it seemed like we were younger than everyone else there by at least a good 10 years. This was NOT an issue for us. The room itself was beautiful. Stone walls, deep windowsills, stained glassed windows. Definitely charming. The three of us ordered our dinners. They each came with salads, we ordered the house dressing. Very tasty, although my sister said that she wished she had asked for her dressing on the side, since she felt that there was just a bit too much on her salad. I on the other hand, had no issues with the amount of dressing on my salad. If you aren't a fan of a lot of dressing, just ask for it on the side. My sister and I both ordered the Filet, she with the brandy peppercorn sauce (on the side) and I ordered the bleu cheese on top of my filet. Both arrived, perfectly cut and absolutely delicious. FINALLY the filet mignon that I have dreamed about! The steak was perfect. So tender, you barely needed a knife. My sister wasn't a fan of her sauce (she's a little picky) but I thought the bleu cheese tasted quite nice on top. It was not a sauce but rather crumbles of bleu cheese that had softened from the heat of the steak, offering a slightly salted taste to the steak. My husband ordered the prime rib. I've heard many people say if you want a prime rib that the Springtown Inn was the place to go for it. And they weren't wrong. He ordered the Queen cut (they offer a Princess and a King cut as well) and when the waitress brought it out, you could hear the other people in the room react. There were gasps, comments and murmurs, basically saying the same thing, "Holy Cow! That thing is huge!!". And it was. I could not imagine ordering a King size, it must require it's own plate. My husband tore into his prime rib and loved it, finishing it all. I tried a piece of his and while I liked it, I wouldn't have traded in my filet for the prime rib but HE like his prime rib so much he wouldn't even try my filet. So it really depends on what you prefer. The sides were pretty standard, choice of potatoes and broccoli and cauliflower (not a fan). I wished they had another choice for vegetables but really I didn't mind that much just because the steak was THAT good. They could have served rocks as vegetables and I would have still been happy. Bottom Line-The filet was the best I think I have ever had. The place itself was clean and very charming, the service good. The location in a small town in Bucks County, a great place to stop for any occasion. They just opened an outdoor deck, which I haven't checked out yet but it was off the back side of the place (not close to the road), so that is always a plus. Check out the Springtown Inn. We went to Springtown Inn tonight mainly because I was hungry for lobster tail. We had been to Springtown many times before for prime rib and we're always happy. We like the charm of this country inn and the prime rib was always wonderful. Tonight we encountered a number of issues...The waitress disappeared for long periods even though we were one of only TWO tables in the entire dining room, Your meal comes with a choice of soup or salad. I opted for the French Onion Soup in addition to a salad with my meal expecting to be charged an a la carte fee for the soup; my husband ordered an appetizer and questioned what his soup choices were. She said the house soup is Ham and Bean, the soup du jour is New England Clam. He chose the New England Clam. My soup was pretty good...his was overly salted with obvious canned minced clams and miniscule potatoes. But we were treating ourselves tonight and were actually okay with it. Meals came out barely warm, and my mashed potatoes were cold. The waitress came back with fresh potatoes when I mentioned it. We were still okay with everything. Then the check came (total was $107.00 food only - no cocktails) and I noticed an error. Not only was I charged a $7.00 chg for my soup, but my husband was as well. I took the check and waited in the hallway for our waitress to come out of the kitchen ( I didn't want to embarrass her in front of the other table). I waited and waited. Went back to the table and waited until I heard the kitchen door open and walked back to the hall to talk to her. She said there was no mistake. My husband ordered the soup du jour which is on the menu for $7.00. Since when is soup du jour an upcharge when soup is included with your meal? I said you need to point that out...that was misleading...She said no, I said it was the soup du jour and the price is on the menu, and now, I'm getting attitude. I can tell you there is NO WAY we would have paid $7.00 for that soup AND soup or salad is supposed to be included with your entree. Why was he not offered a salad if he would be paying for his soup? Its not the money...its the principal. We were willing to pay top dollar for food that was just okay...but that $7.00 thing...well lets just say she lost a good portion of her tip (about $7.00) and they lost two very good customers. read more

The place has changed. We have been going here each year for our anniversary (several years) to get the prime rib dinner. However, just there today and they changed the steak and increased the price by a few dollars. We get the queen cut which use to be about 3lbs or so and cooked as individual steak which is how I like it. Now it's about 2lbs and it is sliced off of a whole rib roast which isn't as good in my opinion. Also, they season on the steak was not as tasty, almost not seasoned at all. The au jus is really salty now like it's from a can or box. The kicker was the masked potatoes which use to be real are now boxed. For $33 they shouldn't serve garbage. Oh well another place that is now gone. Save yourself the trouble and don't go. If you do go for the prime rib, let me say I told you so!!! read more

Here's the short story, do not go here. The waitress was horrific. My meal (blackened shrimp and scallops with penne) was not edible. Four people in our party got the all you can eat crab...BIG mistake. The waitress would disappear after bringing one cluster for each individual. Only four tables were occupied In the entire restaurant. Not sure where she disappeared to. After eating four clusters each and two hours later, she comes back to say, "we ran out of crabs". Did I mention she was huffing nasty words under her breath as she walked away from our table? Bad food, terrible service. Don't waste your time or money. read more

This is one of the places my late father loved to come so we've been here quite a few times over the years and I always remember having a solid decent prime rib dinner. With a new chef I was thinking things would even get better but we had a pretty mixed experience tonight and it kind of felt as if they were losing focus or energy. Lots of little things were off: table so tilted that soup almost came out of the bowl. We literally shimmed the bowl with sugar packets. I was told the veal piccata came with pasta, I told her I didn't want a starch at all, leave it off the plate, she said it comes with it, you can just eat around it. ?! And then it came with mashed potatoes after all that, swimming in a pool of sauce that almost ended up on my lap as I was being served except that I caught the plate before that happened. My friend's prime rib was 1/3 inedible gristle and her baked potato was so overcooked it was rock hard. Almost every item on the wine list on the table was misspelled. Everyone was nice and all, and the eclair cake was rocking, but on the whole it was a spotty experience. read more

Last night was our first time to this establishment. We go out to eat a lot and this place was on our list to try for quite some time.To say we were extremely disappointed is an understatement. I can honestly say this was, by far, our worst dining experience of our lives. I have worked in the restaurant industry for many years and I thought I had seen it all. There were things that went on that had me flabbergasted! We were told when we arrived that due to all of their large parties that they were behind and would not even be able to take our order for at least 15 minutes. I walked through the entire place to get to the ladies room, which is very inconveniently located and hard to find and was amazed that they didn't have one single large party. Mostly tables of 2 or 3, so why such a long wait?? About a half an hour later the waitress took our order, which by then, we were starving. Our appetizer took forever to come out, but I will say, was pretty good. Our salads weren't good, in fact I didn't even touch mine and I usually love salads. Our food eventually came out a while later. My husband said his was good but definitely not worth the wait. I ordered the crab legs. I requested brown butter for with my meal. When it came it had regular drawn butter with it, so I asked for my brown butter. I was told that the cook said no, that he wasn't making me brown butter. The young bartender then proceeded to ask me what brown butter is and how do you make it and asked if it could be microwaved!! If they are going to have a vast array of seafood on their menu they need to find out what brown butter is. That is absurd! Two of our favorite restaurants for seafood are Henry's Salt of the Sea in Allentown and The Jamison Public House in Pennsburg and they both give brown butter as a standard with all seafood without even having to ask for it! After quite some time, the bartender finally came back and told me that the kitchen was working on it and it would be a few mins. A while later, still no brown butter to be seen anywhere and my crab legs were cold and my husband had finished his entire meal. I told them that I no longer wanted my meal because if and when they ever got me the brown butter it would serve no purpose, as my meal was cold. I wish they would have been up front with me in the very beginning and would have told me that I was never getting brown butter and I would have just ordered something other than seafood. The owner of this establishment was nice enough to come out and apologize, which was nice, at least he cared about how unhappy we were. He offered to give us a gift certificate to make up for our lousy experience but we declined saying that there was no point in taking it because we knew for certain that we would never return for another meal. He then comped our check and told us we didn't have to pay anything. Again, that was nice, and appreciated. It shows that he cares, but after reading all of the other horrible reviews, obviously he doesn't care enough to fix the problem! Long story short, we went home and I was still hungry and we will surely never be back again. Save yourself a lot of aggravation and eat somewhere else!!! read more

Had a reservation for 6:30 on a Saturday night. Took about 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us at the door(no hostess). Seated, grudgingly, by one of the waitresses. Not very friendly. Another 5-7 minutes at least until our waitress came over for a drink order. Drinks took long to be served. Long time before she ever came back to take appetizer order. Not much attention to service....maybe not enough wait staff, only saw 2 servers. Eventually ordered dinner, was told crab cakes were very good. Yuck. Standard prefab prefozen, so obvious. Horrible taste. My husband got the shrimp scampi. Bland tasting. Pretty sure they didn't even use real garlic, garlic powder. Love the ambiance, food and drink selections are terrible. Just hosted a Baby Shower at the Inn this weekend, what a great day! The owner aloud us to set up and decorated in the morning, allowing plenty of time to add our own personal touch to the shower. Wouldn't have been necessary since it already was dressed for an enjoyable lunch, we just wanted to add a few touches. As for the planning, the owner helped choose from a great selection for a buffet, something for everyone. It was organized, clean, and the wait staff very attentative. The employees are always smiling, and clearly enjoy where they work. My guests complimented me many times on my choice of venue due to the food quality! It was excellent! Desserts are always amazing, made on premises. My group was of 48 people, and they accomodated us with no glitches! I definately recommend the Inn for a terrific experience amoungst friends! read more

Our party of four had dinner on the deck last night. Our first time here, the place is adorable...wide plank flooring, stone fireplaces and wood beams, very rustic. We chose the casual deck because it was beautiful out and the dining room's menu is quite pricey...we wanted to try out the place before spending $25 plus on entrees. It was Cheesesteak Night..wow! Sounds good, right? After very,very slow service (it was about an hour before we received food)...a bit of a sour attitude, but evidently the waitress was also the bartender..... we were served very large "cheesesteaks with french fries and coleslaw. They came with onions and mushrooms, so we said sure...we'll get both.... Big Mistake. These were as far away from "cheesesteak" as you can be...it was as if someone took an off-brand condensed mushroom soup, and mixed it in with the beef...we could neither taste, nor see, any cheese...the only thing on your taste buds was mushroom soupiness....Ugh. The fries were average, the coleslaw OK..our guest's dinner seemed OK...a salad, and a grilled chicken sandwich. Our guest ordered dessert...a very LARGE piece of chocolate peanut butter pie...it was 8 part peanut butter, 2 part chocolate...very, very mediocre and disappointing. We wanted to love this place, we tried...but we would only ever go back for a beer or wine, maybe a salad, and only if there was no other alternative. read more

My best friend and I went there for dinner. I was pretty excited as I had not been there for nine years and had great memories of the food. Boy was I was disappointed. I went there specifically for the prime rib, which we both had. About forty percent was grizzle and not edible. I was very specific about how I wanted it to be done, and it was over cooked. The salad was good, and the service was really very pleasant. While some may say the decor is quaint, it just looks dated, and the chairs and table wobbled. A sure sign of not replacing it. It kills me to write this, but not only would I not go back, I have told my friends to avoid it. I hope they get their act together and go back to the good food they used to serve. read more

Recently went to the spring town inn with my family. Appetizers were good, I had stuffed mushrooms and family had French onion soup. Entrees were pretty bad all around. I had duck. Advertised as half a duck roasted with fruit reduction. What I got was all leg meat in barbecue sauce. Someone's review mentioned nice crispy skin....not tonight, which I thought was like standard duck-cookin' knowledge. I wound up just pulling off the skin because I couldn't cut through it with a knife. Mom and brother both had chicken parm, which they said tasted kind of like a microwaved chicken nugget with no sauce, but chopped tomatoes. Dad had chicken Marsala, and said it was about the same only with mushrooms. He said the baked potato with it had more flavor than the meat. Dessert redeemed them again alittle (eclair pie)but we won't be back. Might have been an off night, but it was a REALLY off night. One star for the sweet lady who was our waitress and for the really good sweet potato mash that came with the duck. read more
