The first disappointment was at check in we were told "we tried to call everyone but I guess we didn't get to you. Our pool is out of service due to a pump problem but you can cancel us for free and go somewhere else." Yes, one of the main reasons we picked this hotel was for the pool. I, like almost all travelers, took a bit to book this on my laptop reading reviews and comparing prices. To tell me I can just cancel and book somewhere else isn't that easy. Search pools, locations and prices all from my phone in a hotel lobby? No thank you. So we kept the hotel and instead of an easy post flight afternoon of throwing the kids in the hotel pool, we had to pay for a cab to head to an entertainment place and spend even more money. The good: Rachel Kuhn the GM was extremely sweet and apologetic for the pool issue and said it came from higher ups in the hotel chain to not give discounts or any type of reimbursement for the pool issue. She gave us her business card and told us to reach out for the next visit to try to help us out. Fresh towels and turned over bed everyday but we found a bottle of Mountain Dew next to the bed, big thing for housekeeping to miss. I might pay more to stay at the other hotel next time but this wasn't terrible. Decent breakfast included

The inn was beautiful, cozy and had great amenities. The breakfast was delicious and offered a variety of options based on dietary needs - we had a delicious egg/ham/cheese dish in the photo attached with fruit, coffee and OJ. Unable to get to the town due to the flooding it took numerous phone calls with the hotel to get them to agree on a 2 room credit. This was not an easy task, despite the town being flooded and all roads blocked they said sorry we are open and it's our policy when you cancel day of not to reimburse. So we agreed to take the two room credit. Our first credit was able to be used. It took two phone calls to arrange but nevertheless they agreed to honor one credit. When I attempted to use the next credit they said it was lost. All room credits need to be used in same year (2023). So they received $180 we couldn't use originally because a flooding disaster and provided no service in return. This is a case of a business who knows despite what they do it won't matter because of the proximity to a University/tourist attraction like West Point. They don't care about customer service, or updating the hotel etc, they will get the tourists and the families who visit students money regardless. Throughout my communication they have been rude and spoke with a tone that was not professional. Again they can do this because they know all rooms will continue to be booked. So I know this review won't have an impact on the hotel but I firmly believe you get what you give. Sooner or later the hotel management will get a return on all the negativity they have given.

The website promised "a few minutes" from the station and "close to everything." Translation: a sweaty 20-minute uphill slog with luggage, and "everything" meaning the Sunoco gas station across the street. Which, ironically, turned out to be the best part of the stay. Inside, the welcome was a fog of burned pancake fat, which gave way to mildew and damp as we reached our quarters. We were put in 'The White Room', downstairs, right next to the kitchen -- which, naturally, had the shared ensuite bathroom tacked on. Yes: an ensuite. For the kitchen. Nothing says "boutique comfort" quite like brushing your teeth while someone fries bacon two feet away. The only thing it had in common with the Beatles' 'White Album' was that both left me baffled as to why anyone thought it worth releasing. The room itself was tiny, the paint flaking off the window frames, a duvet stripped of its cover, and the general feel of a place assembled with chewing gum and denial. For this, on a holiday weekend, we paid a small fortune -- money I would honestly rather have set on fire in the street. And those glowing reviews? So wildly out of step with reality that you'd be forgiven for thinking they were written by doting relatives, or perhaps an industrious little bot farm somewhere east of Minsk. Beacon is lovely. There is no food or beverage service and that was ok. Room was comfortable but a bit awkward, sink is in the room not bathroom, no closet and a giant worn out couch took up a lot of space that could have been better used for storage. Parking is a bit of a challenge. We also appreciated the view from our room and how quiet the property is.
