This is the most hysterical motel I've ever seen, even better than the Flamingo Inn in Ocala, FL. To whit, a group of ten friends from NYC including myself and my husband attended a weekend-long festival at the vineyard, only a few miles up the highway in Highland Mills. The campground nearby was booked so we decided to all get rooms at the Cadet Motel. The prices on Expedia ranged from $60-ish to what ended up being $90 with tax. Let me be clear. This is at best a $30 a night motel.
One of my friends walked into her room and yelled, "Oh my God it really is 1965". We were transported back in time, to a much tackier point in motel history. Once we all ran around each other's rooms to see how hilarious they were, we decided to all hang out in our room with some beverages. I know they at least don't have bedbugs because another friend does that immediately whenever we travel anywhere together before she'll ever put her bags down (checks all the beds for bedbugs).
Some rooms just didn't have hot water and there was only a tiny bar of soap, but the towels were clean. The bathroom tile is fantastic- yellow and black and so very 60s. There isn't anything on tv and don't even think about wi-fi, microwaves or mini fridges. There wasn't even a Gideon's Bible!!! Oh, and the beds and pillows are like rocks.
But the couple who run the place were nice and friendly and no one complained about all the noise I'm sure we made. I should give them more stars for that, but I have to be honest.
In the end, it was just great to have shared that experience with my closest friends. We'll be talking about it for years to come. :) read more
