Family owner Sal does it all, in my opinion one of the very best motel managers in the business.

Been to quality 5-star hotels around the world, but there's something to be said of charming bed…read moreand breakfasts in picturesque places such as Greenwood Lake. I stayed here because I wanted to be away from the masses and crowds, and the Waterstone Inn fit the bill perfectly. The inn is literally across from the lake, so makes for a perfect summer or weekend getaway. The inn provides kayaks and canoes free of charge to go out on the lake. I communicated with Maureen before my stay and she was very quick to answer any questions. She was an absolute delight to converse with throughout my stay. She mentioned they weren't sure if they'd reopen after 2020, but they invested more money into the property and made some renovations to make the place more comfortable for guests, despite being an older property. All rooms/suites have a private bathroom and locks for privacy. I stayed in the spacious Bradford Suite on the 3rd floor, but all the rooms they offered seemed equally delightful to stay in when I took a peek. The place is so small and cozy that I didn't encounter any other guests except during breakfast hours (I think only one other room was occupied mid-week). Breakfast is included and is delicious...the food is freshly made to order. There are plenty of places to sit for breakfast whether it be a couch in the lounge, the window-side tables with lake views, or the front porch. The nautical and lake themes throughout the property were very well thought out and tasteful to give you a "getting away" type of feel. The porch area is welcoming and the perfect place where you can enjoy spectacular views of the action on the lake. The property has a parking lot on property directly adjacent to the inn which always felt safe and secure. The town of Greenwood Lake on the NJ/NY border is very cute, and was the filming location of a lesser known recent movie starring Morgan Freeman called the Magic of Belle Isle. All staff I encountered were amazingly welcoming, so I wouldn't hesitate to run as small businesses like these deserve to be supported.

We are travelers and this is one of the best accommodations we have every lodged. From the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out; the experience was A-1. The rooms are cozy, spacious, and equipped with all the amenities that you need. Our room, the Montclair was full of windows, and we had a full view of the lake. The homemade breakfasts were so savory and yummy and let me not forget to mention the unlimited coffee, tea and lemonade that was provided throughout the entire stay. The location is close to many restaurants, shops, and the beach. We had fun kayaking out on the lake. Kayaks and canoes are available on the premises at no additional cost. This was our first time staying in Greenwood Lake and we simply loved it. Our stay at the Waterstone Inn added to our amazing weekend getaway full of everlasting memories. A big shout out and thank you to Dennis, Maureen, Tara, and Christine for your exceptional hospitality and making us feel at home and we look forward to a return visit! Thank you! We felt like we were walking through a fairytale-like winter wonderland in Idaho or Jackson Hole. It had just snowed and truly looked magical. Perfect landscape design and and lighting. The dining room itself is equally elegant, decor is on point, upscale and super-tasteful, and atmosphere is fantastic. We were SO excited about the drinks, wine and food menus. Ordered liberally to try a lot of different things, and... womp womp. While the plating and presentation of all we ordered was perfect, the taste did not rise to the level of the presentation. The martini had a strange undertone, The Pinot was thin and underwhelming. The oysters all had pieces of shell in them from how they were shucked that then had to be fished out from one's palate (and there's no way to do that that's not awkward at a full table). The octopus was overcooked. They serve garlic biscuits, which were tasty but we didn't finish them bc no one was blown away. The duck - skin was scored properly but not given enough time time crisp or pan not hot enough, so served soggy, tho the meat was done correctly. All dishes sat upon a turnip puree, with the duck having additional (also soggy veggies), and the steak having additional shredded cabbage. French fries came out nearly cold but in a nice metal basket lined with parchment. They looked perfect and then the bite was, well, not hot. Mashed potatoes were good. Presented well. Perhaps the highlight of the evening? The service was very good, by the way. Staff was fantastic. It's just that something was a near miss on the food... very heavy handed, the unique tastes and freshness of the ingredients cooked out of many... a very different experience than had in the cantina, where the food has been perfect each time. 2 Coffees, 2 sodas, 1 martini and one glass of wine, 2 apps, 3 entrees, and one dessert with standard tip came out to just under $500. It's a lot for an underwhelming meal. Food wise, if I were to recommend a fine dining establishment where the food is superlative for the same price, I'd say Hudson House in Nyack, hands down. While they don't have the same ethereal setting, the culinary aspect cannot be beat. They do have oysters that are shucked correctly and a killer steak au poivre with pomme frites that's incredible. Perhaps we'll try this place again in the future. Not sure if it's new? Only just learned about the Lodge Steakhouse part, so who knows. Summary: Overall, gorgeous setting, food presentation. Staff service: lovely, actual taste of each dish: meh.

Finally the bartender comes over and hands us a menu. Right away I get the feeling we are not welcome. My wife confirms the vibe and we contemplate leaving immediately. We change our menu choice from the steaks $45 to the burgers 17$. We look at the menus for a while and nothing. Finally the bartender comes over and says " you are supposed to order at the bar"," oh there used to be a sign but they removed it". Maybe she wound have mentioned that when she handed us the menus. I really want to leave here but hunger has me. The customers seem nice though. Really a bad experience from jump street. So after sitting a while the food comes and the person delivering it is so nice. The "bartender" did not get the order correct but no worries because the lovely server makes it right. The bartender has a dog and it is all over the place including the table tops? People come in and are seated right next to us. They have two dogs but there is no problem with our pup and theirs. They are lovely people. The whole time we are there from entering the establishment to the time we leave the "bartender" is talking to the people at the bar, laughing and talking. This includes the time we waited to be seated till she comes over with the menus and tells us about ordering at the bar. Nothing better to do but hack it up and make us feel uncomfortable. I get the fact that you know the regulars but wouldn't you like some more regulars? This is a hospitality industry not a hostility industry. She has got some issues! Anyhow we pay the check and leave a tip, but if the "bartender" was the only person we delt with I would have opted out of the tip. Everyone in the place was really nice and conversational except the "bartender". Good grief! The food was really good btw. Too bad I lost my appetite for the steaks because the menu was very nice and so was the presentation.
