3.5 Stars edging to 3. Stopped in for a early Sunday Brunch. Parking may be a bit of a problem, you have have to pay to park. We got lucky and found one of the few non metered spots on the street. The restaurant was a bit busy when we arrived, but they where able to seat us promptly. The service was good. Our table ordered several items off the brunch/breakfast menu. I had the Seafood Eggs Benedict. For the most part this was a solid eggs benedict. However the shrimp were away overcooked and rubbery. They were a bit smallish and just not worth the time or charge. Hands down the best part about the dish was the Honey Ham. It was flavorful and there was a good bit included on the dish. In general it was fine, but not exactly worth the $18 it cost. Cubed Hashbrowns: I mixed bag. Every order at the table the Hashbrowns came out a bit different. Mine were undercooked and crunchy inside, I like them overcooked and crispy. Others at the table had them crunch and almost burnt. You can have them come with cheese and onions. I suggest this upgrade. Others at the table had: Eggs Cathedral: Needed salt. The same dry shrimp as the other dishes. Another dish that just did not seem to justify the cost. BLT Croissant: Was an ok looking sandwich, there was a good amount of bacon on the sandwich, however most of it was very well done. $15 Kids "Egg Breakfast: 1 egg, 1 Meat, 1 Toast. Looked fine. Spot of Tea was not a bad meal and there is good diversity to the Breakfast menu. However nothing the table had has was great, just mostly good. The Shrimp however were just bad. It seems that they are cooked in batches early in the day and added to dishes as needed. So I would personally avoid the "jumbo" shrimp dishes. Side note on the shrimp they are the same one that was added to the bloody marry cocktail. I think the biggest hang-up is the price to quality ratio. If you are in the area and want an eggs benedict you may want to give them a try. For me however I think there are better options to get full in the area. read more

Not only has this place been a delicious go to for years for my annual trip for DYW national finals, but the service is always incredible. My chicken salad sandwich was absolutely perfect. One thing I want to really call out though is the ownership. I sadly didn't get his name, but the owners son was running the show that afternoon during lunch. He checked on every table and did not stop moving. He welcomed regulars by name, and seemed genuinely interested in the care of his staff and patrons. It started to downpour and my friend and I were waiting and he asked if he wanted him to go get our car so we wouldn't get wet. WHATTT. who in this day and age offers to be that kind??? One thing about Spot of Tea is their consistent in food and service. Depending when you come and what time I'd the year, you may have a wait but it's worth it. It's across the beautiful cathedral square so you can't sit in the park while you wait and people watch. We tried the mimosa flights today and it was very good. I had the seafood Benedict and my husband had the bananas foster with a side of grits. We appreciate a crispy bacon and creamy cheese grits. We had to wait a bit as they 2 parties of 16. First visit to this restaurant and we went here for breakfast. I have been wanting to come here for a long time and try their Bananas Foster French Toast and today I finally did. And what a delicious dish it was! Sure it was sweet, but not overly sweet. It also comes with a side, which I went with the bacon and the saltiness balanced out the sweet quite nicely. In town for a concert and had breakfast here. Absolutely delicious. Could not decide between the eggs cathedral or the seafood eggs Benedict, so we each got one and tasted each other's. And then to end this amazing brunch we had some beignets with banana Foster sauce......crazy good. We said outside and enjoyed the music from the Saturday's farmer's market across the street. First of all, know that if you go on a weekend, there will be a wait. I knew that ahead of time so nbd. The atmosphere inside is little too crowded for me. It's nice to have an open area, but the trouble is that it gets loud, and my table had trouble carrying on conversation due to the noise level around us. (That being said, this was a busy weekend, so not sure how true this is for other times.) The food was pretty tasty, I had the Eggs Benedict, and the eggs were cooked to perfection. The hollandaise sauce was so good we asked for extra on the side! The only thing that was slightly disappointing were the hash-browns (diced potatoes). It was Saturday 10 OCT 2020, and we were having a weekend getaway from New Orleans in the great city of Mobile. We had a busy day planned and were looking for a good breakfast spot close to our downtown hotel (Battle House Renaissance). We are always looking for new places to try and a quick Yelp search revealed Spot of Tea. The desk manager at the hotel confirmed it was a good place to eat so we decided to give it a try. Kudos to Spot of Tea for the complimentary strawberry tea for checking in on Yelp. (We gave the tea to my nephew; therefore, I didn't get to sample it). We arrived shortly after 9 AM and the place started to get crowded shortly after our arrival. COVID-19 social distancing was still in effect and the restaurant was using disposable plates and utensils; however, the experience was still A-Okay. I ordered an egg white veggie omelette with an extra (4th) egg white. The omelette was solid, but I would have preferred my veggies not to be chopped so finely. Still it was good to go. I had the opportunity to sample my son's Belgian waffles and they were pretty solid too. I was so hungry, that I barely noticed what my wife had for breakfast. All I remember is that she let me sample it and it was pretty darn good. Kudos to Spot of Tea for the complimentary strawberry tea for checking in on Yelp. We gave the tea to my nephew; therefore, I didn't get to sample it. Perhaps next time. Our server Heather was spot on and kept our coffees and iced teas filled. My now wife and I scheduled our rehearsal brunch to be at this restaurant. I am a Mobile native and have eaten here many times before and always liked the food and the service but the service that was given to our large group was absolutely unacceptable. For starters, we had scheduled the back room for our group around six months in advance and when the waitress showed us the initial side room (for large parties) we were not impressed. It had exposed plumbing on the ceiling and a dingy atmosphere. She then brought us back to their "back room" which is a large open room with a piano and plenty of space for all 30 of our brunch guests. We liked the space and atmosphere in this room and decided to book it for our rehearsal brunch... little did we know that the morning of the brunch they would tell us that the "heat was out" in the back room we opted to use. We were then told we had to use the aforementioned dingy side room. My wife and I chose this establishment because we thought it would be a classy place to have our brunch. Little did we know that the two servers would loudly call out orders and have people raise their hands to indicate who got what order even though they had written the orders down! At one point towards the end of the meal when we all ordered our cheesecake one server even said "you will have to remember what you ordered because I won't". Needless to say this was absolutely embarrassing for us in front of our guests who were all expecting a classy brunch with close friends and family. As for the food which I assumed would be the redeeming quality about this terrible experience, it was not. It was minimum 1 hour between when the first person got their food and the last person was served. It was also obvious that most of the food had been pre-made. The shrimp and grits came out lukewarm and clumpy, some shrimp had their tails still attached and some did not. The soups were also luke warm and clumpy as well. The hashbrowns were dry likely from being sat underneath a hot lamp since the night before. The grand total for this embarrassing degrading experience was more than $1,420. Although I have been going here for years. I will never dine at this establishment again. read more

I would call this a family-friendly version of Waffle House. A Spot of Tea sits right across from Cathedral Park. If you eat outside you will get a feeling that everyone in this city knows each other. When my girlfriend and I sat outside and were serenaded by live music which added a fun vibe to the whole experience. Although the utensils were not the cleanest the Eggs Cathedral (their best selling dish) tasted amazing. The Cajun seasoning made us feel like we were in New Orleans. I asked him if he could check and he said, "Nothing on the menu is gluten free except for the salad." Hmm...last I checked bacon and eggs don't contain gluten. That's where it was left, so I was left to figure it out on my own. The food was just terrible. Everything was prepackaged Sysco crap. The poached eggs were horrendous and not poached. I was in town visiting here in Mobile, and oh my goodness, I think I just had the BEST breakfast in Mobile! I'd been hearing a lot of buzz about this lovely spot. I had to check it out for myself. Our server HEATHER made sure we were taken care of, thanks HEATHER. Although we had HEATHER, it looked like all the servers were wonderful. Everything flowed so well around the restaurant. You sure don't always get to see that anymore especially when it's busy. Their were so many delicious items to choose from, I could hardly decide. I decided to be adventurous and select something I'd never tried before. After listening to HEATHER'S description of several items I decided on the Monte Cristo and boy it did not disappoint. This gem of a restaurant is located on Dauphin Street in the historic Mobile area. I've never been to New Orleans, but I can imagine that I was there today. Mobile has a very strict mask order and social distancing is enforced. We still decided to eat on the sidewalk tables outside. There is a lovely park and historic church across the street from the restaurant. Dave ordered the Eggs Cathedral, a grilled English muffin with a crab cake on top, scrambled eggs and homemade seafood sauce. The sauce was made of blackened grouper and crawfish. We swapped sides and he had my waffle sticks. I had the Cajun Seafood Omelette. It was stuffed with blackened shrimp and smothered in the seafood sauce. I was so bad and had hash brown potatoes with ham and cheese. Totally out of this world. Everything is served on disposable plates and cups. Served with toast (sour dough) was filling. The waffles were light and fluffy and one with the strawberry topping was a step above. Sondes includes ham, sausage and scrambled eggs, all devoured by the 10 and 12 year olds.
