While visiting from San Francisco, I had a craving for catfish and came across this location. After checking the reviews, I decided to try the catfish meal along with jambalaya, and of course, I had to sample the highly recommended pineapple iced tea. The catfish was fried to perfection--crispy on the outside, though it could have used a touch more seasoning. Still, I enjoyed every bite. The jambalaya was flavorful and one of the best I've had in quite some time. I also ordered the lemon pepper wings, extra crispy, and they were so good that I cleaned the bones completely. I paired everything with the refreshing iced tea, and it made for a fantastic meal. Cleveland was the half-way point for our road trip and we looked for a mom-and-pop place to stop and enjoy a kid-friendly dinner. Spoony's was a great pick. Family-owned and operated, casual interior, and straight-forward menu. The staff was super welcoming and patient, as they sensed we had never been there. The line to order and pickup at the counter was long and someone came from the kitchen over to us to take our order personally. Cheesesteak-great roll. Crisp outside and super soft inside. The onions and peppers well-cooked. The steak is more of a diced steak than shaved/chopped like in Philly. There was also mayo on it, which is not our preference on a cheesesteak. The cheese was really great quality and ooey gooey. Gumbo-the best my husband has ever had, including in NOLA! Catfish plate: I had actually ordered the fish plate, not catfish, but this is what we got. My kids loved the fish and tartar sauce. The breading is great, the fish well-cooked. Just be careful of bones. The slaw needed more dressing and seasoning. Hush puppies-amazing! Fries-perfect! Grilled cheese-$3 each for our kids. Super fresh, well toasted and such gooey, great cheese. Our 10 yo places it in his "top-3 grilled cheese ever." High-praise. ;-) Fried green tomatoes- a tad inconsistent. Our first few were undercooked with uncooked batter in the center and a hard tomato. The others were great. The outer batter is very flavorful, but with the inconsistency and the ranch dip being just okay, I think we would pass on these next time. Pineapple tea-MUST! The best deal is getting a half gallon if you have more than one person. Dreaming of this tea. We would definitely stop by this spot again to try out some other menu items and give more love to this small biz. This place is a family owned restaurant and they treat you like family, too. We came through here because we heard great reviews about their philly sandwiches. These sandwiches did not disappoint at all-- they tasted better than phillys from Philadelphia! It was super tasty! Plus, their sides were great too. Just had lunch with 3 friends. Two of us ordered catfish which was amazing and the portion size was too much for me but perfect for my friend. We had 4 pieces of fish, side (onion rings or fries) and coleslaw (see picture). My Pastor had a Philly chicken sandwich which he really liked and my other friend had chicken salad which he said was OK. The price was great for what we ordered and the food was delivered promptly and hot. I had a pineapple sweet tea which if you like pineapple you need to try the tea. The place is small and quaint. Its not modern or new but very clean. They have a pool table and play 80's Rock and soul music. The lady who served us was cleaning and picking up the whole time we were there. As you know, I'm going to talk about how clean it is and I was impressed. I did not use the restroom. I recommend this Mom and Pop place. Keep in mind cash is king here. We had seen many people raving about the food from Spoony's, so when my son was in town visiting, I placed an order for some of the dishes that had been recommended over and over again on the "Word of Mouth" Cleveland Facebook page. The Catfish was very good and so was the fried okra, which is my family's favorite vegetable, and one I never prepare at home. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak for my son and the Chicken Philly for my husband. The side of onion rings was a bit small, and not as hot and fresh as other items. We also ordered a half-gallon of the Pineapple Tea, which everyone enjoyed. The food was hot and tasty and packaged well. Both of the guys felt that the texture and of the sandwiches would have been better with lightly toasted bread, but they enjoyed the flavor and serving size. I thought I ordered directly from the restaurant's website, but soon after the order, I received a call from a New York number on my phone with a question about the Onion Ring side-item. I had asked in the order comments if a side was included with the sandwich, and the caller said they had contacted the store and it was not and there would be an additional $2.50 charge for the Onion Rings. This was from Delivery.com, even though I was DRIVING to the location to pick up my order. There was also a service charge for using a credit card. I saw that Grub Hub had a promotion for free delivery and also a partial rebate on the first order, but I didn't order through them due to poor reviews but wish that I had now, since it went through an outside service and not directly to the restaurant. The food was ready when we arrived, and there was no curbside, so we had to go in and get the food. Great little place, only open Thursday-Sunday. First visit, had the catfish plate. The fish was terrific. Ran into a friend of mine there who said they have the best wings around. Small family owned spot been driving by it for years. Something told me to just give it a try. I was not disappointed. I ordered 2 of there pulled pork plates one with fried okra the other with French fries. I took it to go and that was a mistake because my car began to fill with aroma that left me salivating all the way home. when I finally got home and opened up everything was kept separate which I loved keeping the okra and fries crispy and the toasted bun toasty. I first reluctantly went for the okra, I can't tell you how many times okra had disappointed me, this okra was not! Perfectly seasoned, perfectly fried, you had a pleasant crunch each bite but not too much to where the inside was fried to dried crisp, fried just right. I moved to Cole slaw, to be honest, in my opinion it wasn't really impressive almost like it was just there to fill a spot, no offense, just my opinion. Next, finally, the pulled pork. Juicy, tender, and just the right amount of barbecue sauce layered atop it. I have in my 10 years of living in Tennessee, not, I said, NOT, eaten a more succulent portion of pulled pork ever and I have eaten barbecue all over this state. 9.5 out of 10. Will return and whoever is reading this you gotta try it out too. read more

Great place to stop and get some southern food. I love their philly cheese steak and their pineapple tea. I normally buy a half gallon whenever I stop by. I've not heard a bad thing about any of the dishes on the menu. Only downsides are small amount of seating and sometimes the food is slow. The seating is rarely an issue though. Just heard about this place a few gays ago and decided to go check it out. I got the catfish, my wife got the BLT, my youngest got a cheeseburger and my other two got the chicken strip snack. I have to say I was definitely surprised at how good it was. The catfish was the best I have had in years! The kids loved the chicken strip snack and the portion size was comparable to most restaurants dinner portion. My kids have already asked when we are going back and already know what they are going to try next. The one thing I was disappointed in was they were all out of their pineapple tea which I was looking forward to trying. Maybe next time though... because I will be returning! read more

Im always on the look out for new places to try and eat. And often disappointed with either the quality of the meal or the quality and professionalism/hospitality of the staff. And with most cases in order to get a decent standard of both you have to be willing to fork out a little extra money. That was not the case with Spoony's. Compared to other dinners/cafes/pubs in the area Spoonys is in essence a cheaper option as far as cost goes but don't let the price tag fool you. Good quality food awaits. As with most new places I go to I tend to play it safe and order a cheeseburger all the way hold the onion. I figure that if an establishment can not properly cook and season the most American of American staples than chances are the rest of the food they serve is going to be of poor quality. Sitting at just 5$ my expectations were tempered from past experiences of either greasy, dry, or poorly seasoned burgers. That was entirely incorrect The cheeseburger was amazing quality, well seasoned, properly cooked and not dry not to mention a slightly toasted bun. Did I mention that this patty is about an inch and a half thick and about 5 inches in diameter? The fries where just as well seasoned and cooked and weren't salty. Now as far a drinks go I highly suggest their Pineapple sweet tea which is handmade. Overall I would definitely recommend this dinner to anyone looking for great food and a low price point read more

We went for dinner one night. The food was okay, not great. Burgers tasted a little off- maybe freezer burnt? It isn't in the best area and there was very dim lighting in the restaurant. Service was ok but the menu was unimpressive. The tea was very good but when I think of seafood I think of more than catfish. I don't like catfish but that's all they had. It tasted old and coming from Boston I know my fish. I guess for where they are located it works for them but not for me. The next time I'm traveling it will be Popeye's or Red Lobster. read more
