They have such a nice variety of qualityyyy dog products! It's like Puppy Whole Foods. They have an amazing kibble selection of things you can't even find online on chewy, and they're also so friendly to the dogs who come in!! I've been in the neighborhood for 12 years now. When I first got here, I went to this store, found everyone there to be rude & disinterested. As a dog trainer, I see the value of trying to be helpful to customers...diplomatic in the face of frustrating people who're gonna need your services...So I always give retailers benefit of the doubt. Aside from it being overpriced (not compared to Amazon or Chewy, cuz that's an unfair, but compared to other pet stores), walking in and hearing anyone who worked there chit-chatting about nonsense on their cell phone the entire time rather than, y'know, offering help, surely made this store LAST on my list of places to go for dog food or treats, etc. Two years ago, a little after getting a new dog, I decided to give them another try. I was greeted by a guy who was super-friendly, gave my dog a treat (and even asked first), asked me if I needed anything. He was a total phony, but so what? He was doing the job. We ended up chatting for a bit about an irresponsible dog owner who had come in w/an unfriendly dog that should NEVER have been in the store. We talked about how people like that make his job tough and so on. So I kept going back, in spite of the fake smile he started out with (I figure, he's got a put a fake smile on for a LOT of people, so I get it.) But it was cool. I went back for about a year -- he'd remember me, and we'd sometimes chat for a bit. Then, that same guy was outside one night w/what I assume was their delivery guy, and they were smoking cigarettes in front of the entrance -- already not a great start, but, heck he'd been nice all those times before. I head on in. There's no one in the store, and I was there for a particular product that was behind the counter. I see a guy come out from corner; I tell him I need something from behind the counter. He shrugs and exits. I go outside and tell the guys I need help w/a product; they also seemed disinterested -- the whole place smelled like cigarette smoke anyway. So I gave it a few seconds to see if they came in to help. They didn't. I've never been back. F--k this place. read more

Spoiled Brats is an excellent example of a great neighborhood store. They have a large selection, both holistic and traditional and are extremely helpfull. Some people may complain that their prices can't compete with Petco, but do they realize that these stores are not to be found in your neighborhood and have lower rents. Let's not mention they buy in bulk. Spoiled Brat's prices are pretty good. They know the name of your dog, the store is clean and well organized and they deliver. Sometimes okay, sometimes pretty terrible. I've ordered dog food 3 times from them, each time it arrived 3-5 days later than was promised, them having no record of my delivery request (probably because I saw them scratch it out on a piece of scrap paper I'm sure was promptly lost or tossed). I had several bags of frozen raw food delivered to me--they promised a 3:00 delivery. It arrived at 9:00pm with all of the food thawed. I bought a bag of dog food in the store two days ago, only to get it home to find it expired 9 (yes, nine) months ago. I called the store to ask what I should do, and the younger guy who works there pretty much brushed me off and hung up on me. I want to support the local stores, I really do, and I have tried for several months. But if I can't feed my dogs consistently, then I can't continue and I sadly have to go back to ordering food from Petco. The prices are not cheaper, but the merchandise is consistent and it arrives when promised. read more

These guys are great! They don't regularly stock the food that my German Shepherd eats but they said that ordering it is no problem. At a BigBox Pet store this food is $58, these guys charge me $60. It saves me a trip to Jersey and they always have the food 6days after I call up and order it. I have only noticed a tiny mark up in prices, but I only go there for my $60 dog food. If this is in your hood, I think that they are defiantly worth seeing if they are a good fit for you. The comment about many items not having prices is true, I don't mind that because I feel that it opens the door for me to ask for a discount (but I'm ghetto like that), if that dynamic makes you uncomfortable, you may want to stick to the BigBox Stores. read more

I love these guys. I moved to the Heights about a year ago and was thrilled when I found they had opened in the neighborhood. They carry lots of pets supplies and healthy/holistic/organic foods for pets, even frozen foods. They are a little more expensive then your local Petco- oh wait, there *is* no Petco nearby. Frankly, I don't mind paying a little extra for the friendly service and convenience of having a pet store within walking distance that also delivers for free. Sometimes I will take a stroll down to the store on a weekend, stop in, order my pet supplies, chat with the owner, request delivery and then stroll home and wait for my purchases to arrive. Can't get much better than that. And they stay open late so you can grab stuff after work. There are some pet stores up in Inwood, but none have impressed me as much as this place, nor are they are convenient to get to. If you have pets and live in the Heights, these guys should get your business. read more

I like this place they always have so many choices of pets food, good & bad. Im always able to get the prescribed cat food. Which i cant find in petco or petsmart. Prices vary but overall they not that bad plus they deliver!! which is a pretty good thing for some folks. But overall the place is nice and friendly. I wont lie that most times, they have different family members working there. which they all vary in costumer service from good to bad. But the main owner, is very cool peolpe and very helpful with explaining the different types of foods based on different needs for your pets. Though they have more dog & cat food then they have fish and turtles, but they do have the basic fish and turtle foods. I recommended this place. This is indeed a well-stocked pet store and a valuable resource in this neighborhood. Do watch as the prices tend to be high. However, the owner (Seth) is open to negotiating, especially if it's an item you're going to buy regularly. He really went out of his way to be helpful after I asked about one item that was priced about 10% higher than it is at other pet stores in the area and elsewhere in Manhattan. Most people's solution is to simply order online, but in my case this is about frozen food which is much harder to source. read more

This place is the BEST. When we are walking in that part of the world, my dog starts pulling me here so he can bask in the sausage treats that rain down on him from the front counter. Ahhh - the way it is supposed to be. They have all the obscure/holistic brands of dog food that I am used to running around for, as well as a very healthy selection of extra goodies. They deliver for free, which is very nice for those of us who are lazy like me. And they have a couple of kitties who either live there or are being fostered, their sweet little faces peering out from the shelves. The people who run the place are super awesome, too - of course. My dog had been not feeling so well for a while and we had taken him to the vet a couple of times to no avail, but one mention of his problems to the dude here, and he gave me a big bag of sample dog food of a different brand, and now he's all better! TWO stars for being in the neighborhood- thats all they are worth. Giving free treats does not deem them a great or worthy DOG and CAT store. My issue with them is one year ago I came into get a few things. They had just opened and felt it was a great idea to have a convienant pet store down the street from me. After a few times shopping there they never would put prices on things... everyday the price would change according to the person that was talking to me. Nothing was consistent. I stayed away-- TODAY after one year... i thought lets go in and maybe they pulled it together. WRONG- Selection for dog toys was poor and their prices have sky rocketed as if they were located on the upper east side on 5th avenue. What is going on? I suppose I have high expectations but for a neighborhood pet store I would hope they would be a little more personal and alot more fair with prices. ( an example: a dog leash cost me $25 down the street- same leash.... $14) hmmmmm? good luck and i hope you are treated better than me if you shop there frequently read more

This place is such a boon to the neighborhood! Not only do they stock all sorts of cat and dog food, consistently keeping up with new brands and flavors that you might want to try, and able and happy to give advice about the various foods and treats, but they also support the neighborhood in other ways, posting for local organizations helping cats and dogs, and collecting for local cat colony support. And the owners are warm & wonderful, and fun to talk with! This place goes out of its way to be supportive of the neighborhood. You could contrast the so-called "pet store" around the corner on 181st, "Pet Fashion," that seems to exist in order to market high-end puppy mill victims. But even without the contrast, Spoiled Brats is hands down my favorite pet store ever! They have a downtown branch too. read more
