Stopped in from out of town because of the Yelp reviews. Completely accurate. Food was excellent, chicken & waffles with apricot butter - perfection, waffles and chicken both wonderfully crispy, apricot butter was delicious and a perfect addition. I could wax poetic for a few paragraphs but the smash & hot mess, spam & bacon - all of it was fantastic. Coffee was also wonderful and the owner incredibly nice. read more

This is happy food. The service is friendly, the atmosphere is comfortable and the selection is perfect for anyone. Family friendly with street parking, although there are a few parking garages within walking distance. There is so much to do and see in this part of York City, you should really plan to spend some time. read more

Was here first time with my mom- around 1. Not very busy. Food came fast, which was a plus, but it was disappointing. I had the brisket and egg and my mom had something that started with garbage (which is what she technically said was accurate). My brisket was mostly fat, covered up by a very well made egg Benedict. I loved the eggs. but the meat was so tough and basically you have to have the best teeth possible to get some progress made. the hash browns were just ordinary, slightly warm and non-crispy. The waitress, god bless her, was very tired looking and I saw no passion that some of these reviewers have described about the staff- she just was waiting to leave. I do feel really bad for not realizing that I didn't give her a tip. I think I was expecting my mom to put some money down and it threw me off that we pay before the meal since normally I pay at the end and then include the tip. I am pretty sure that I may give it just one more chance, just so that I can make it up to the waitress since she did take my order at the counter, brought us food, and then cleaned after us its the least I can do is give her a decent tip next time around. Hopefully it was just a fluke, because I really was excited to try this place. Oh and also they may be the only restaurant in the modern age not to have ice for your water. read more

Just moved to York from Cleveland, oh, where we have all the brunch. This place was amazing! The buttermilk waffle was to die, the crab in the crab Benedict was I think the freshest crab I've ever had. And prices are so reasonable! The staff was friendly and checked on us often. A booze menu would've been cool but that's nothing to dock points on. Will def be back! read more

Went there with a friend, the food was good overall. I had the brisket Benedict and she has the crab Benedict. We both thought the hash browns could have been more crispy and more hollandaise sauce was needed. My brisket was tasty but a little fatty. First impression after sitting down was not good, I tried to order orange juice and was offered Sunny D instead...no thanks. So I settled for water and there was no ice. The chicken and waffles are one of our faves, as well as the cubano and basically everything on their menu! Love the southern feel- only suggestion is to have home made sweet tea, then it would truly be a little slice of the south right here in York! read more

What a nice surprise in downtown York. We were headed for a bike ride on the Rail Trail and wanted to start with a good breakfast. I saw 5 stars on this app for Roost and said "let's find this place!" Not many places do we ever see 5 star reviews. The owner was very welcoming and made suggestions, as it was new to us. I had Biscuit Benedict and my friend had an omelet. Both were delicious, hot and very satisfying. The bacon on mine was so Smokey and crisp and the biscuit was tender and grilled. My eggs were cooked exactly how I ordered. Coffee was great too. We had a nice conversation with the owner as we were finishing. He gave us directions to park and begin our bike ride. There are no negative comments about this place whatsoever. My only caution is if you park along Market Street make sure you don't let your meter expire! My wonderful breakfast cost me a $20 fine for being 6 mins late. Boo meter maid! read more

We found this restaurant on Yelp-just looking for breakfast on a Friday morning during Christmas week. The guy behind the counter was fantastic-asked if it was our first time and then explained the menu to us. I got the Greek yogurt-which came with a basket of jars filled with toppings. Bob got a fabulous egg platter. The counter guy served & did coffee refills. When he learned we were from South, he gave us a Fells Point restaurant recommendation. read more

I was underwhelmed by this restaurant. My "crisp" bacon was thick sliced and undercooked. The biscuit was tough, maybe reheated rather than freshly baked? Eggs and hash browns were okay, sausage patties and coffe were good. The ladies room was in need of serious attention. I won't go back. read more

Maybe it was an off day for The Roost, but I was very disappointed. Menu was interesting, with several uncommon choices, and I will give kudos for the brisket as a breakfast choice. That part was really tasty. House cured bacon was 2 big pieces of rubber partially cooked, not extra crispy as I requested. Eggs were okay, but requested CRISPY hash browns were warm, that's all. Biscuits on menu sounded great, but they must have started out cold and reheated on grill which made them seem stale and crisped. I think someone forgot the apricot butter as advertise. Restroom needed attention BADLY. Overall decor was fun. I'm not so sure I'd go back when in York again read more

The garbage biscuit was delicious! My 8year old loved her pancakes and sent her compliments to the chef!! Great service. Fun atmosphere.

You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Such decadent and perfectly blended flavors and a staff that obviously loves what they do. Don't waste your money on the avocado toast! I wouldn't normally order avocado toast because it's always overpriced. But this is the only vegan option they offer so that's what I got. It was two pieces of bread with a smear of guacamole, a thin slice of tomato on each piece of bread and a drizzle of balsamic on top. As soon as she sat the plate down I could smell the spoiled avocado. It was also brown which I get naturally occurs shortly after the avo is cut open BUT it's certainly not appetizing and completely avoidable if they would just put freshly smashed avocado on the toast. For $11 I was expecting a substantial serving with fresh avocado. Not a smear of guacamole that was made with bad avocados. If you've had a bad avocado you know the taste I'm referring too. Anyways this was very disappointing. I didn't eat it and they took it off the bill which was kind and appreciated. One star for the hash browns - they were good. One star for the atmosphere - It was clean and the lady was kind. read more

I usually don't stray from the norm but I tried the crabcake benedict breakfast and it was amazing! My wife had the York City Special and she liked her food as well but was jealous of mine. My only critisism is the tiny baby biscuits, felt like a rip off to get 1/4 of what I expected. Overall, cool decor, good service, and food. My husband and I stopped here for the first time on Sunday afternoon around 10:30. Interior is super cute cozy design nice colorful wallpaper and well lit. However the flow of things is somewhat confusing saw menus in a basket on wall and figured it is counter order style. Hubby ordered the "Sunday Garbage" Myself the "Easy like Sunday" the young lady at front counter seemed incredibly overwhelmed and somewhat lost. We waited to order as the poor girl answered phone calls, brought food to tables and ran about like a chicken with her head cut off. Once we placed our order we were told multiple times as we made selections "we ran out of that" which was somewhat frustrating. After finally making our selections we sat ourselves at these really neat handmade tables that looked like recycled doors. We received our food surprisingly fast for how busy it was as that was a pleasant. However our server forgot silverware. Hubby had to jump up and flag a young man down who promptly apologized and provided them for us. Our food portion sizes where very large and hubby's eyes lit up as food arrived. However our biscuits were incredibly dry, thin, and flavorless. We were quite hungry though so we didn't make a fuss. Why the five stars you may ask then? Midway through our meal a heavily tattooed bearded man came out of kitchen, we assume the chef and walked to each table and asked how everything tasted. We watched as he took food to tables and refilled coffee. When he arrived to our table and saw our biscuts pushed aside. He politely asked how everything was. My husband whom was a bit frustrated spoke his mind. To which the chef simply replied "I'm incredibly sorry about that guys this is completely unacceptable you have my word the problem will be fixed." A few minutes later the chef returned with coupons for a "free york city special" and a tray of fresh biscuits "fresh out the oven" he was incredibly apologetic and said he had just made a fresh batch. He brought a smile to our face. As hubby was overjoyed. The fresh batch he brought out where golden brown, and flavorful, warm and quite frankly delicious. He also brought out their homemade marlade and apricot butter which was amazing. This made the whole experience worthwhile and we will surely be back! I'm sure the team was just short staffed and having a rough day. Overall food was great, prices middle range. Atmosphere cute, but crowded. We will be back! read more

Stopped in today with my wife for breakfast. Nice setting overall. But once we were seated a homeless man walks in mumbling almost incomprehensibly, the employee asked what he needed when we related he was asking for matches (wasn't easily understood). He then asked for water which was given to him, then came the uncomfortable part. He sat across from our table and just stared at us while mumbling words. After about ten minutes I had enough and asked him, "Why are you staring at me?". He then said, "I want to know if you have matches.". Another customer then gave him a lighter which he took and ended up leaving. We were delivered our food which was great, but then this homeless person came back, gave the lighter back to the customer and they interacted. And then he sits back where he was and starts staring at us yet again, and then the other customer buys him coffee. So, we had enough and asked for a box to take our food. Not a comfortable situation with the schizotypal behaviors being fairly obvious. read more

I actually stumbled upon this restaurant from Carryout courier. I order from there all the time and decided to try food from somewhere I've never been before. I ordered the cheesesteak. It was very good and very unique, which is what I really enjoyed about. I plan on coming in for breakfast sometime in the very near future. read more

Hubby and I stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. So happy we did. We both ordered the Smash-Mac burger. Delicious!!! I would recommend getting extra sauce on the burger. I also ordered a side of hash browns which were some of the best I've ever tasted. Great food. Great service. Will definitely go back for more. read more

I really want to like this place but it just doesn't meet expectations. I have tried at least 3 times since they opened and every time something is disappointing. First two visits, got different versions of the benedicts. Eggs overcooked both times. The flavor of the actual meal was good but the eggs are pretty important to these dishes and the yolks were hard. Pretty disappointing. My last visit tried something different. We waited for our food for almost an hour! Absolutely ridiculous especially considering the 2 entrees we ordered were not served the way we had ordered. One of them went back since the benedict was missing an egg. Burger patty is smaller than a mcdonalds patty which is crazy for the price. The kitchen staff needs to step up their game and the wait staff should be more apologetic and less nonchalant about the horrible kitchen. I get it isn't their fault but it really isn't acceptable to have your meal wrong after an almost hour wait. They are lucky they have you tip upon ordering instead of after the meal, I would've left way less. I wish this place could get it together because the atmosphere is nice and the menu is good (just needs to be cooked properly). I think this third time was my final experience as this place doesn't seem to be changing for the better. read more
