Great little spot, especially for a brew and a great sammich! After carousing through various bars, we happened upon this place when we were looking for food. They had a number of craft beers and some very interesting food selections. I had the pork belly sandwich, which was absolutely amazing. I frankly don't remember what my buddies had, but they both raved about it as well and suggested we make Spliff's a regular stop. We dined and drank here on a lonely Saturday afternoon -- we were the only ones in the place. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the cook even came out for a nice chat. I have been watching for this place to open for a while now. Today I saw it was open for real this time. I have seen them kind of sneak a couple of "soft openings" you know for Fla/Ga weekend and artwalk. The place is small you could almost say cozy. There is a lot of old brick from the original buildout in 1904. There are a couple of Tv's way up on the walls too. Then you have a sweet looking bar/counter from which you order everything. I walked up and Duane was there just biting at the bit to tacky order along with the other folks that happened in. The menu is pretty large with some salads, some mac n cheese selections, then some more different grilled cheese sammages. I went with the Ziggy sandwich was a mac n cheese side. Ok with a name like Spliff's and a sandwich named Ziggy and me being one of the biggest Bob Marley fans out there. I had to run with it. The sandwich was nothing of what I thought it would be. I thought Ziggy marley/ Bob Marley and them being from Jamaica. I thought maybe jerk chicken or something. But, no it was Pastrami (my weakness) salami and provolone cheese on wheat bread toast. The sandwich was pretty darn tasty and the mac n cheese was also on point. I did liked it and when it comes to pastrami I'm kind of a self proclaimed master of the meat. I will say that they did a bang up job on the place and if you wonder around and which I did. You will find some really cool artwork everywhere. I massive firewall/painting of cute and snardy sayings along with massive brewery logo on the wall. Then you can go outside where there are some picnic tables and some more really cool artwork. Spliff's was within walking distance of my hotel, I liked the menu so I decided to give it a shot. They have a nice selection of beers and specialize in sandwiches, grilled cheese, and mac & cheese. I went with the Big Spliff which is a steak sandwich. The sandwich was good but the real MVP of the dinner was the side of mac & cheese. It was one of the better ones I have tried. I wish I had gotten an order as my dinner. It is a small place so it is tough to get a seat but it is worth it. I would recommend trying it if you are in the area! read more

This place has terrible food. The avocados were like hard little brown rocks and the food was dry and bland. The staff was not knowledgeable about the beer selection and had their faces in their phones the whole time, which accounted for the terrible service. I don't understand all the positive reviews. Came here for s late night dinner today and ordered the Good fella spliff with Mac and cheese and a ginger ale. The mac and cheese came out cold, didn't even eat it. I had The Big Spliff sandwich and The Bowl of Green salad with chicken and thought both were great. The place is smaller, comfortable, and casual. Use Google to find it because it was right where Google maps said it was but I never saw a sign out front. Think they are working on that since they're still new. Cool and eclectic beer selection that I really enjoyed. The owner was tending bar, and both he and the cook were friendly and cool to talk with. Definitely a great place to grab a bite, beer, or both. BTW, there's a music hall next door owned by the same people, so if you are looking for that, might be cool. Place is kind of small and down to earth; no frills, etc. prices are very good and the bartender/waiter was super friendly. And the food? Excellent!! GastroPub? More like DisastroPub. Probably the worst food I've eaten in this city. Ordered a sandwich with the "braised Tri-tip steak", which was basically two thick slabs (maybe 1/2" thick) of chewy, flavorless cold beef on some bread. The meat was impossible to bite through, and the crappy plastic butter knife they provide couldn't cut it either. (Pro Tip for the kitchen staff: Take an extra five seconds and slice the meat into lots of very thin slices. It'll still be shitty, but at least it will be possible to actually eat it.) Not only did the food suck, the atmosphere sucked too. The place is drab and uninspiring. There was some asshat holding court at the bar (possibly an owner, definitely a regular) who had clearly been overserved, who bellowed a monologue about Jacksonville at a genuinely obnoxious volume level for the entire time we were there. (He was so loud and relentlessly loquacious that it made it difficult to even converse at our table 20' away.) Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. Spliffs is disappointing on every level. read more

Wanted to give 4 stars but with very few people in the restaurant it took literally 45 minutes after ordering to get the food. There was no real urgency or concern either. Maybe they were short staffed since there was only one cook in the kitchen. The food was good but the hype for the level of satisfaction prior to getting the food didn't match the taste. It was good food but I would not say it was worth our wait time. If I came back to Jacksonville I would try another restaurant just for variety. read more

Counter dude and I quickly work out a sammich and appetizer combo. Some of his favs and he was spot on. The weird rib wing things were awesome as a starter and the sammich wasn't huge, but very well thought out and delicious. This place is awesome. Very few seats and very many beers on tap. Probably not the cheapest sammich I've ever eaten but they did gastropub mantra proud IMO. Excellent choice for a casual and quick eat and chat. Stopped in because I read good reviews. I ordered a sandwich and was told they were out of pork belly. After looking over the menu, I ordered a different sandwich and was told they were out of another ingredient and couldn't make the sandwich. If this was know, we should be told up front instead of waiting to order. Poor management there. Was then told food would take at least 20 minutes cause they only had one person in the kitchen. Awesome friendly place in downtown Jacksonville! Everyone is raving about the Mac and cheese and holy crap is it excellent, but I have to have the sandwiches! The big spliff with the habanero sauce is just fantastic and more than enough for one person. Get the side of Mac to go with. They also have a large range of craft beers with local brewers on draft. The staff is knowledgeable about what they serve and can certainly provide great recommendations. They have a great patio area out back when there is a good crowd. I called in to make sure they were open on Memorial Day. It was pouring outside, and when we hopped out of our Uber to run inside - they had a sign on the door that said "closed to the public". I was looking for an after hours spot that was still serving food and Spliff's came up. I have to say that the food exceeded my expectations , it was fresh and very tasteful . I had their pockets which were very good and my friend had the Mac n cheese which was amazing. The place is very welcoming and the staff is very friendly , definitely a place that I would consider revisiting. By the way, it was reasonably priced for the portions that you get.
