Definitely worth the hype and the trek! I've been seeing this spot all over TikTok and finally made the drive out on a Tuesday afternoon. It's such a cool location right on the water by the ferry, & the vibe is super relaxed with plenty of indoor/outdoor seating and lawn games like cornhole. The staff were incredibly friendly & walked us through their order at the counter setup as soon as we walked in. The food was a 10/10. The turkey was so juicy, literally tasted like Thanksgiving, & the ribs were seasoned perfectly with a generous portion size. I also have to mention the sides: the okra & collard greens were my personal favorites! We tried all their sauces, but the datil pepper one is a must-try if you like a little local flavor. They also have a full bar and some fun spiked slushies. Even though I didn't try the brisket sandwich myself, my dad loved it & said they'd come back just for that. This is a restaurant where you order when you come in. The line moved very quickly. I think I ordered the wrong food for today, but I was convinced when I heard the order taker that the Sunday fried chicken special was excellent, so I went with that. We also ordered fish dip. Carl got fried fish basket. He said the standouts were coleslaw and hush puppies. Fish was good too. He was very disappointed in the tartar sauce and said the fries tasted as if they had been cooked in old oil. I tasted them and they, at a minimum needed seasoning, but there was none on the table. I did not like the fish dip. It may be good, but it was everything I dislike, fishy and overly smoky. I had to spit it out. I've had fish dip elsewhere that was more mild and loved it. Again, that's on me. The fried chicken plate was also not for me. I struggled with either that or Azar's sausage with okra & tomatoes and butter beans as the side. I'll take the sausage next time. The corn muffin, mashed potatoes and creamed peas were good. Wish I too had some salt though. The chicken disappointed. My favorite part is the crispy breaded skin. Three of the pieces of the half a chicken were cooked so there was no breading on the skin side. The skin for leg and thigh was torn away from the meat and hung by the side. I still had crispy half breaded skin, but the meat was hard and dry without the protection of the skin. Service was spot on, fast and friendly. It was a beautiful day to sit on the patio and watch the ferry come and go. The drinks were very well poured --an old fashioned and a John Daly. The drive home was lovely with the blue sky and sparkling water. Definitely a mostly win. Definitely can recommend. I'm sure it's a 4 or 5 with a different entree. read more

Food was great and service was super helpful and sweet. You order at the counter and they definitely have some choices. We tried a bit of everything. Some specials the fried ribs, and a lot of the regular menu. We did the fried squash, the fried gator, the Brunswick stew and a 2 meat platter woth a hot link added with sides and hoecakes. Standouts were all the apps the squash was delish crispy and cooked inside and the gator was on point cut to proper size and super crispy. I've never had a fried rib but it was so good and crispy. The sweet sauce was a fave. And the hoecakes were very good too! Butter and honey a must. The meats on the plate were ok but the bushes was cut super thick and kinda a little tough. I did like the sausage it was spicy. They do have a full bar. The slushies are good and they brought it all to the table quick. I will def go back and it's very pretty out there. After long walks at Little Talbot Island State Park and Huguenot Memorial Park, my wife and I stopped by for lunch. The parking lot was full and the place was buzzing with a line out the door that didn't let up the whole time we were there. I ordered the Combo 2 with ribs and brisket paired with corn and green beans. My wife went with the same combo but chose chicken and brisket with collard greens and tomato & okra. We also added a Brunswick stew to share. I have to say, they serve up some good barbecue. The ribs and chicken were flavorful, and the stew was hearty and delicious. The only downside was the brisket. It had quite a bit of fat. Same with my wife's brisket. For a two-meat combo, I wish they gave two slices to make up for that. Parking was a challenge , but thankfully we managed to find a spot. When we got there, there was already a long line because you order first, then find a seat but it moved quickly. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area has a stunning view of the water, but it was pretty hot, so we decided to stay inside. My husband and I both went for the two meat entrée, with the only difference being I got the chicken and he got the ribs. We both agreed that the brisket was the standout. The meats were flavorful and tender, although the brisket did have a large chunk of fat in the middle, which I'm not a fan of. The sides were excellent, and the sauces were really good, with the bonus of being able to take as much as you want. Overall, it was a great experience, and we'll definitely be back! read more

Hidden gem! Accidentally stumbled across this place because we missed our turn for "another" restaurant down the road. (Ha ha!) It's kind of a casual order-at-the-counter kind of place. The staff were very friendly and great at moving people through the line. Once you place your order, you go find a table which seem to be turned around quickly. They were quite busy when we arrived at just before noon and I never really saw anybody standing around waiting for a table. I will say that Billy Jack's BBQ has their "stuff" together and whoever is managing the place seems to be running a tight ship. Kudos to you, friend. The food... the food was legit. Between the three plates that were ordered in my group we had shrimp, fish, and chicken (all fried). Nothing came out looking like it was haphazardly put together and thrown in the fryer. It was all very well done and presented well for a BBQ joint. Two things. The hush puppies were absolutely delicious, and we ended up ordering a separate side to share. The coleslaw on the other hand was not good; it was dry and tasted like moist cabbage. It could use a little more "coleslaw" flavor if you ask me. Finally made it out here after attending the Concours d'Elegance thanks to a hookup from #yelpjacksonville. Counter service with outside, patio, and indoor seating. We were greeted at the door by Sam who I would assume is management. Super friendly and informative - just exuded positivity and hospitality. Wife and I ordered the Que for 2 so we could have some lunch in a couple of days. I added a rib on the recommendation of Sam. The rib, chicken, pulled pork, and brisket were all smoky and moist. Cole slaw was great and the fries were perfectly crispy - just how I like - and I didn't even ask. I ordered collards as well and they were well executed. The hoe cakes were just ok for us - nothing bad - but probably would lean towards the cornbread next time because that's how we roll. I'm a mustard guy and their version is really good. Second for me was the Piedmont sauce which I'm assuming is a vinegar style. The homemade pickles are awesome - not just part of the presentation. Great spot! read more

First visit after being recommended by someone who isn't a real bbq fan, so I went in with limited expectations, and they were exceeded! Prompt, friendly counter service and the food was prepared quickly. The brisket had excellent smoke flavor and was served on a buttery toasted bun. Pickles and pickled onions were a nice addition. Sides were hot and delicious, especially the mac & cheese. Many bbq joints just get a check in block for their mac, but this was excellent. Gooey, cheesy gloriousness. The food is absolutely divine! I love the brisket, the best, but there is really nothing that is bad at this location. A great example of their service is a lady came to us to deliver our food and we had forgotten to order some banana pudding. So we asked her if we could give her our card and have her order it for us with a smile. She took our card and brought us back some banana pudding instead of us having to go up to the counter to order it! That is some awesome service! The last thing is because it's on the St. John's River. It makes for some great scenery and it's a very clean establishment inside and out well worth anyone going to it! read more

We tried this new restaurant on Thursday 1/09/2025 as we traveled back to Jacksonville from a trip to Amelia. We should own stock in the Southern Table Group restaurants as we are at them on a weekly basis. Marker 32 and North Beach being our most frequented. Anyhow, this is similar to Dockside with counter service and a seat yourself setting. That's not my favorite, as I prefer table service, but I understand this is probably a good idea for this location. Because we were unprepared for not sitting down to look over a menu while having a drink, we made relatively quick decisions, as we let multiple parties go in front of us. The hubby had the brisket sandwich with fries. The brisket was flavorful but dry and tough. There were onions all over the sandwich and on the pickles on the side and he hates onions. That is not mentioned on the menu and should be for allergy reasons. The fries were OK. He likes a really hot barbecue sauce and their Datil sauce is not very hot. I had the Mayport fried shrimp basket and it was very good. I only eat wild caught shrimp and confirmed they use local shrimp. It came with fries, coleslaw and hush puppies. It was a generous portion and the hubby helped me eat that. I also had a red sangria which was tasty. The downside was after we had to clean our own table to get seated ( dirty tables galore) , we looked over the menu and would have ordered some additional appetizers. No one ever asked us if they could help us, had we been there before, or anything to assist. The cashiers were troubled to be there imo. Would we go back? Sure but they need a better team to make this place a success. Pros- It's on the water, beside a full barbecue menu they also offer local seafood, they offer adult cocktails, and it has decent parking. Cons- Counter service, doesn't seem like they care if you are there or not, good luck finding a clean table even when the restaurant is mostly empty. read more

Opened in Aug 2024, we happened to see this place going to my brother's family's house during the Christmas holidays. Very deceiving from the outside, looks as though it's a tiny restaurant when in fact it's pretty huge inside with different seating arrangements. From inside the main dining area to a covered high table area, to the outside dining near the water. As you walk in your blasted with a huge menu along with the daily specials. And wait to order at the counter. We decided to try the Friday special which was the Fried Pork Chops with Rice tomato sauce and 1 side. Chose the Black eyed peas. And you also get 1 piece of corn bread. A drink station is past the ordering counter. The plate was huge we could have shared and got extra sides and would have been satisfied. The seasoning on the pork chops was spot on, however the bread crumb crust on the pork chops broke completely apart and separated from my pork chop when I tried to cut into it. My only critique of the pork chops. A little less coating on the chops would have been better. Sometimes less is better. Over thinking it The tomato sauce was okay, I was thinking it was going to be stewed tomatoes on top instead of a sauce. Black eyed peas were good and the cornbread was a little on the dry side. All the food coming out looks great, all though we had an okay experience we will definitely be back to try the BBQ. read more

I drove past this new restauarant on Heckscher Drive on a prior trip so today I decided to give it a try after seeing some positive reviews. It did not disappoint. As soon as you open the door, that great bbq aroma hits you. They have a big menu near the front door outlining all of the options. The menu offers appetizers, salads, sandwiches, seafood baskets, and smoked meat entrees. I opted for the meat combo, which also comes with two sides. Two visits under my belt, literally- because I feasted! Just next to the Ferry, this BBQ and Seafood restaurant has definitely made both John and me very happy. I tried the brisket on the first trip and the spare ribs on the second. John enjoyed the shrimp and fish basket! My girlfriend met us there for our first visit & we all enjoyed every bite! We had sunset the first time and got there just after open on the second visit. I really enjoyed dining on the porch & they have a huge patio too! You order up front and then head to get your drinks. I had the special jalapeño pulled pork. It came quickly. They didn't have the sauce or one of the sides. I had the pulled pork sandwich with potato salad, which I was very surprised was so good! it's a red skin potato salad and a good size portion. Finaly got a chance to go here for the first time last weekend after a hike on boneyard beach to black rocks. I was starving and ordered too much. Good system for counter ordering with servers who are very good and fixed any issues like the wind blowing over a fresh plate of ribs outside. Similar menu to Valley Smoke, Southern's other BBQ restaurant. Take the ferry afterwards and enjoy the food buzz like you are on a cruise. Spare ribs with no sauce were excellent. Also got the brisket and pulled pork, both delicious and moist. Collard greens were good. Tomato and okra was a little too sweet. The John Daly (named after the golfer, I assume) and Spicy Margs were both refreshing and not too boozy. read more

There's a new kid in town, folks! Billy Jack's BBQ did not disappoint these TX transplants. We drove out on a Saturday (you could take the ferry, as it's right next door). It's counter service, which is fine. They have a pretty big selection of appetizers and sides, and even desserts, but I didn't get a pic of the menu or the boards... sorry! I started with the fried squash, which was nice big chunks of yellow and zucchini squash, lightly battered, with some ranch dressing to dip. We each ordered one of the dinners, which come with 2 sides, sweet (?) pickles, pickled onions, and a (just one?) slice of white bread. My husband enjoyed his pulled pork, and I thought the brisket was better than most I've tried in Jax (since I got an ugly message from a stranger about that opinion, I'll point out again, "in Jax." Overall, brisket outside of TX sucks and there's not a nicer way to say it). There are several sauces to choose from. He liked the sweet but I was partial to the datil. We both got collards, which were pretty standard. He enjoyed his cole slaw. The potato salad was halved small potatoes. Not bad, but different. They also have a full bar. I liked the strawberry lemonade vodka slush, very refreshing! Being that it was day 3 of operation, I loved seeing/meeting the owners who were present and "touching tables" as we say. Good job! Went to a wedding on the beach. We all stoped at Billy Jacks BBQ for food and drinks. The place is right by the ferry and the patio was on the river! The groom had a buffet setup outside. The barbecue was delicious. The sausage was cooked perfect. After the main meal they brought out giant cookies and brownies yum! The two young men working the buffet line were great very friendly and busy. The bartender inside was nice and made great drinks. This place will see us again!
