This spot located on the nice quaint island Talbot and Mayport Area of Jacksonville. This spot was amazing, the brisket and Mac and Cheese surprised because it tasted like home made. Great place I . Just a love place. The smash burger was great. The service is beyond quick, and how great everything tasted it was a pleasant surprise. We ordered and less than 5 minutes it was to table. Amazing service e. Great view or the inter-coastal.

After long walks at Little Talbot Island State Park and Huguenot Memorial Park, my wife and I stopped by for lunch. The parking lot was full and the place was buzzing with a line out the door that didn't let up the whole time we were there. I ordered the Combo 2 with ribs and brisket paired with corn and green beans. My wife went with the same combo but chose chicken and brisket with collard greens and tomato & okra. We also added a Brunswick stew to share. I have to say, they serve up some good barbecue. The ribs and chicken were flavorful, and the stew was hearty and delicious. The only downside was the brisket. It had quite a bit of fat. Same with my wife's brisket. For a two-meat combo, I wish they gave two slices to make up for that. Still, overall we really enjoyed our lunch. The service was friendly and attentive which made the experience better.

Food was great and service was super helpful and sweet. You order at the counter and they definitely have some choices. We tried a bit of everything. Some specials the fried ribs, and a lot of the regular menu. We did the fried squash, the fried gator, the Brunswick stew and a 2 meat platter woth a hot link added with sides and hoecakes. Standouts were all the apps the squash was delish crispy and cooked inside and the gator was on point cut to proper size and super crispy. I've never had a fried rib but it was so good and crispy. The sweet sauce was a fave. And the hoecakes were very good too! Butter and honey a must. The meats on the plate were ok but the bushes was cut super thick and kinda a little tough. I did like the sausage it was spicy. They do have a full bar. The slushies are good and they brought it all to the table quick. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will def go back and it's very pretty out there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]A lil chilly to eat outside but I can wait to sit out there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Parking was a challenge , but thankfully we managed to find a spot. When we got there, there was already a long line because you order first, then find a seat but it moved quickly. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor area has a stunning view of the water, but it was pretty hot, so we decided to stay inside. My husband and I both went for the two meat entrée, with the only difference being I got the chicken and he got the ribs. We both agreed that the brisket was the standout. The meats were flavorful and tender, although the brisket did have a large chunk of fat in the middle, which I'm not a fan of. The sides were excellent, and the sauces were really good, with the bonus of being able to take as much as you want. Overall, it was a great experience, and we'll definitely be back!

Hidden gem! Accidentally stumbled across this place because we missed our turn for "another" restaurant down the road. (Ha ha!) It's kind of a casual order-at-the-counter kind of place. The staff were very friendly and great at moving people through the line. Once you place your order, you go find a table which seem to be turned around quickly. They were quite busy when we arrived at just before noon and I never really saw anybody standing around waiting for a table. I will say that Billy Jack's BBQ has their "stuff" together and whoever is managing the place seems to be running a tight ship. Kudos to you, friend. The food... the food was legit. Between the three plates that were ordered in my group we had shrimp, fish, and chicken (all fried). Nothing came out looking like it was haphazardly put together and thrown in the fryer. It was all very well done and presented well for a BBQ joint. Two things. The hush puppies were absolutely delicious, and we ended up ordering a separate side to share. The coleslaw on the other hand was not good; it was dry and tasted like moist cabbage. It could use a little more "coleslaw" flavor if you ask me. I found out afterward they had Jack and Coke slushy's too. This place would probably be great for a few drinks and snacks out by the water. Can't wait to go back! Highly recommend.

Great barbecue near the Mayport Ferry. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Friendly service person at the door guiding people and delivering meals provides added customer service. We had the meal for two which included two meats and two sides. Everything tasted great and was fresh. Great atmosphere and great bbq.

Q for 2. Chicken, brisket, pulled pork, fries, slaw, and hoe cakes. Add a rib.

Finally made it out here after attending the Concours d'Elegance thanks to a hookup from #yelpjacksonville. Counter service with outside, patio, and indoor seating. We were greeted at the door by Sam who I would assume is management. Super friendly and informative - just exuded positivity and hospitality. Wife and I ordered the Que for 2 so we could have some lunch in a couple of days. I added a rib on the recommendation of Sam. The rib, chicken, pulled pork, and brisket were all smoky and moist. Cole slaw was great and the fries were perfectly crispy - just how I like - and I didn't even ask. I ordered collards as well and they were well executed. The hoe cakes were just ok for us - nothing bad - but probably would lean towards the cornbread next time because that's how we roll. I'm a mustard guy and their version is really good. Second for me was the Piedmont sauce which I'm assuming is a vinegar style. The homemade pickles are awesome - not just part of the presentation. Great spot!

Excellent bbq! We liked the brisket and ribs the most. Our friends also tried the sausage which was great with the mustard sauce. The pulled pork was slightly less juicy but good flavor. Generous portions and easy service system to order at the counter. We enjoyed the view of the river and ferry. Only improvement suggestion is to provide wet wipes after and more generous pour of wine for the price.

First visit after being recommended by someone who isn't a real bbq fan, so I went in with limited expectations, and they were exceeded! Prompt, friendly counter service and the food was prepared quickly. The brisket had excellent smoke flavor and was served on a buttery toasted bun. Pickles and pickled onions were a nice addition. Sides were hot and delicious, especially the mac & cheese. Many bbq joints just get a check in block for their mac, but this was excellent. Gooey, cheesy gloriousness. Restaurant is very nice as well, with plenty of seating and a large outdoor patio area with picnic tables. Great first visit and will certainly be back.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The food, the people, and the outdoor seating is amazing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I recommend the entire menu but the brisket tacos are my fave.

This place is really nice. Right next to the ferry location right on water. Good outside and inside seating. I had the turkey sandwich with collard greens. Very tasty. Candyce had the brisket. Very tender. With 2 sides. Order at the counter and the bring it out to you. Good service location and of course the food. Definitely will be back

Their cocktails are superb and very high-quality. The service is absolutely the best in the entire city that I have ever experienced. Not only was everybody friendly, but they were super excited about their experience and their products and were very willing to answer questions and provide any guidance we wanted. During our 90 minute visit, I'm certain they stopped at our table 4 or five times to check on us. It was not intrusive, it was part of the experience. We were blown away. When we left, our bill was reasonable, we felt we had a high-quality night out, and we made plans to 100% come back much more often. I just can't rate this place higher or speak more highly of it. Truly worthy of five stars. Thank you, Mayport Garden Club, for the justice that you do to your patrons, the world of tiki, and craft cocktails! I'll let the photos from other reviews do the talking, but if you enjoy a good backstory, ask about the history of the space. My mission for the night was simple: end the evening with a great gin cocktail. I started with the Donna Bella from the menu. It was well made, but I thought the bitters were a little too forward for my taste. Next, I asked for an off-menu modification: a Water Lily for Teresa, but made with Roku Gin. It was a strong contender--aromatic, balanced, and beautifully floral. If you're a fan of a French 75, this is a fun cocktail to explore. It's less citrus-forward and leans into a floral profile with a character that's hard to compare to anything else. For the final round, I went with bartender's choice. Mick asked a few questions about my flavor preferences and absolutely nailed it. They crafted a cocktail with Roku gin, snap pea cordial, aloe liqueur, egg white, lemon simple, mint, and citrus that was easily the highlight of the night. Fresh, layered, and memorable, it's a drink that deserves a permanent spot on the menu....Mission accomplished. If you're willing to wander beyond the barbershop business front and you consider yourself a spirit explorer, Volstead is well worth the visit. Go for a round...or two. If you're local, this could easily become your staple spot. For what it is, strong craft cocktail bar option. Bartenders choice is the way to go.

The house band is pretty good, a little bit on the young side, but they seem to get the job done. OK. After the house being played a set, they had a sit in sessions with various musicians, which is always nice. The atmosphere is subtle and quiet at least for a club. Location is great, and the staff seemed friendly. It's good to have a place in Jacksonville with an environment like this and a place where you can go and listen to jazz/blues. I wish there was more like this, maybe with a little bit of older, jazz, musicians and more people who appreciate jazz as it didn't seem like the audience was 100% jazz lovers, but that doesn't detract too much especially since there's not a lot of places in Jacksonville that do what they're doing here.

First, the seating. The tables are unusually tall, making us feel like little kids trying to sit at the adults' table. It wasn't comfortable for anyone in our group. Then there were the lights. They continuously blinked above our table, and it was so distracting that we asked to move. Unfortunately, the second table had the same issue. I know St. Augustine is famous for its ghosts, but I wasn't expecting them to be playing with the lights at 7:00 p.m. while the sun was still shining! The biggest frustration was ordering. We were told menu items could be modified, but after placing our order the server kept returning one item at a time to tell us they actually couldn't make the requested changes. It would have been much better to know that before ordering. The pickle appetizer was another disappointment. Based on the description, I expected a pickle-forward appetizer. Instead, it was mostly kimchi, pickled onions, and other pickled vegetables with only five slices of actual pickles. I honestly don't have the words to describe how disappointing that dish was. I was also excited to try the tzatziki green beans, but the crisp pickled green beans tasted more like fermented green sticks than an enjoyable side dish. The baked Brie arrived with what I initially thought was melted cheese inside the croissant, but it turned out to be undercooked raw dough. Imagine my surprise when I realized I had just taken a bite of raw dough. I actually started feeling sick before we even left the restaurant. My younger son ordered the house root beer, which tasted extremely watered down. He also had the pasta with added grilled chicken, but the chicken was dark meat, overly shiny, and completely unappetizing to him. I ordered the non-alcoholic Velvet Slippers mocktail. One sip was enough--I honestly can't find the words to describe how unpleasant it tasted. My friend ordered the steak sandwich and requested the peppers be left off. After ordering, she was told they couldn't accommodate that request, so she had to pick the peppers off herself and still didn't enjoy the sandwich. My older son ordered the lamb sirloin. Even though lamb is often served medium-rare, this was so rare it looked like it was still bleating. We paid our bill before dessert because my stomach was already upset. I ended up making one last stop in the restroom before catching up with my family, who were already halfway down the street, ready to forget Forgotten Tonic. Sadly, this was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. Between the uncomfortable seating, blinking lights, inability to accommodate simple modifications, disappointing food, and getting sick before leaving the restaurant, we won't be returning.
