When I tell you not a soul was in the place and I don't understand why...I mean there was NOT ONE OTHER PERSON IN THE PLACE but that's ok by me...they were all very nice as I got my order to go... But it's truly unfortunate because their brisket was really great! And I want to come back and try all the things! We brought our guests here as they wanted some good BBQ and I wanted to let them experience a local chain instead of one of the national chains (which we go to all the time when we visit them). We pulled up and there were just a a couple people at the bar and 1 or 2 tables with people eating their food. They told us that we could sit anywhere since they weren't busy. The place inside is fully decked out with Southern Blues decor with references to celebrities and famous places. Makes you feel right at home. Our server was great and handled all of our orders with ease. I think the best thing that we all had were the onion rings. This is my go to place for catfish. Both blackened and fried are exceptional. Onion rings are excellent. Sweet potato mash was too sweet for me. Husband loves the smoked sweet corn. It wasn't very busy shortly after they opened and we were quickly greeted and brought waters and cocktails! We shared the fried pickles, which clearly tasted homemade. Solid 4 star BBQ place in Jax. We finally made it to Mojo Kitchen! It was a great meal as part of our dinner & movie date night. We arrived and were seated immediately. Any place that has local Jax brews is usually right up my alley. Mojo Kitchen had Veterans United Buzzin' Bee Honey Rye Wheat on draft so of course we ordered a couple of those. Along with a half order of the Mojo's famous onion rings which came with buttermilk ranch. Typically hubby is a bigger fan of onion rings than I am but I must admit these were fantastic! Maybe the best onion rings I've ever been had. I also really liked the buttermilk ranch. I thought it was a perfect dip for the onion rings. For dinner, I ordered the beef brisket with collard greens, garlic cheddar grits and Texas toast. The brisket was moist and not overly fatty. I loved the perfectly seasoned collard greens. The garlic cheddar grits weren't my favorite cheese grits but still enjoyable. I used the Texas toast to make a brisket sandwich with sweet BBQ sauce. Hubby ordered the pulled pork shoulder with BBQ pit beans, mac & cheese and Texas toast. The pork had great flavor and was moist. BBQ pit beans were delicious as was the mac & cheese. I've never had the onion rings before, and they were so delicious and crispy - and although they're double battered, the amount was perfect and not overly done. They were well seasoned and the house ranch was so good. We had the two meat combo --just can't go wrong with pulled pork and beef brisket. We came for dinner since it had been quite sometime since we had eaten here. We were seated immediately because they were not busy. We waited for about 15 or more minutes before I finally got up to see the manager. We were finally served by a young man that had his ball cap on backwards and just seemed really immature to wait tables. He got our drinks, which I have to say they are one of very few that serve cheer wine zero, so that was a positive. I ordered the brisket with a salad, which the waiter was unsure of dressing choices, and green beans. My food came out very quickly. It looked nice on the plate but I noticed how fatty the brisket was. It had a good taste, but for what I paid, I expected a better quality. The sides were good. I've been trying to talk John into coming here for a while- finally a bbq night that I won the location. We've been to a few other locations for Mojo and I already know I like their pulled pork and love their mac-n-cheese. They have wonderful cocktails. I tried their Mojo Club- smoked turkey, pulled pork, bacon (not crispy enough), cheese and Texas toast- oh yes! It's a huge sandwich and I only ate half and gave the other half to my kid at home. John opted for the bbq bacon burger. Neither of us went traditional bbq. But we both enjoyed our dishes. I wish they had had live music- the vibe wasn't as fun as the other locations. I always have high hopes for a BBQ Pit spot. I had the pork shoulder with onion rings and Greens for a side. The pork was good, and the onion rings were pretty good, but the greens were very boring/bland. The place is nice and open with a spot for live music. It also has a bar that is well-stocked. Our service was good and prompt, though it was a Monday night and slow. My friend had the sliced brisket and said it was like pot roast.
