I came in here after a Day at the Beach and came in late afternoon around 4. I had been here before as a young man and loved it in the 90s but I even loved it more now that I'm an old man! Lol. How the fuck is it still OK to smoke cigarettes in a bar. This place would be great, really, if it didn't stink of cigarettes. I sat and watched a guy suck down a packet of cheap smokes. Listen, you have to know what you're getting into. This is the divest dive bar I've been to in Jax. I'm not a local, so I'm sure there's more, but this is divey af. The beach bars are typically a young, wild scene. This ain't it. This is super laid back and chill. You walk in.. it's a small bar. They have some seating. There are some arcade games like bowling and golf. There is a vending machine for cigarettes. The music is good. Current hits or whatever. Not too loud so too can actually hold a conversation. Cigarette smoke everywhere. You will walk out smelling like you just smoked a pack. Seems like the crowd is full of the usuals and maybe some visitors (like myself) sprinkled in the mix. The whole reason I came ( and reviewed ) My friends grew up in Jax and brought me here for a rocket bomb. This is a $5 concoction that will excite your senses. You get a glass - maybe 12 oz - full of some red/white/blue mixture and a shot on the bottom. MUUUST CHUG IT. Tastes just like a rocket pop so it's pretty magical. I just took a date there tonight so we could try them. Got the stamp of approval. We also got the well vodka soda which was Tito's for $5 a glass. Not a bad price and a heavy pour to boot. This is Def a nice spot for a low key night. Good for a drink and conversation. Prices and selection are swell. Attended a special event for my stepson's 40 birthday. Service was AWESOME. I like cigars and was able to smoke at the bar. Good ventilation system. I wasn't the only one with a cigar and nobody seemed to notice. Very reasonably priced cocktails with GENEROUS pours. I could hangout here! read more

Ginger's Place. The 5 star dive bar! Well, five stars is a bit much, but I'll give it 4. This place gets weird, and anyone that's been there can tell you that. Living across the street from it, I can attest to the weirdness from the patrons and the bar tenders. This place is bizarre. But in a good way. You can tell it has a real neighborhood feel to it right when you walk it. Pretty much everyone knows each other, but that doesn't mean they don't want to know you. Countless times I've had a complete stranger buy me a shot or a beer. Let's face it, no one wants to drink alone! You'll even find local bar tenders from surrounding establishments boozing it up here on their days off. Not a lot of people know this, but they have a package license. So at last call you can take home a bottle of something or a six pack of beer. Another tip is to always be on the look out for the sign in front of the door. Each bar tender has a signature, if you will, that signifies they're working. My favorite bartender, Michael, always leaves an evil :) face on the sign. Mention this and he'll get super excited. This place has a crazy history too. I'd tell it to you, but then you wouldn't have a reason to go! ;) read more

What a dive! And I say that with some affection. Because it doesn't pretend to be anything other than what it is. Which is a dive. But, it's not dangerous, and it's reasonably priced, and although there is the occasional human flotsam and jetsam cycling through there, everyone is pretty cool there. It's all copasetic. The place is small and dark and people mind their own business there. For the most part, anyway. Expand your circle of friends! Hang out at Ginger 's for awhile. read more

Went here last night for the first time. It is certainly a dive bar, but with out the great staff that makes a dive bar fun. This location has one pool table, a decent stretch of bar with some coin operated touchscreen games on it, and a handful of tables. Smoking is allowed, and at least last night they had a DJ playing a mix of music genres. The drinks were not over priced, but not dirt cheap either. The two bartenders that were working were not very polite, and I'd almost even call them stuck up. If it is at all possible to be stuck up working in a place like that. I may go back once more, but it will be the last time if I get service like I did last night again. read more
