We were heading back home from a show in downtown Jacksonville and decided to give this place a try for dinner since we have to drive right by it to get home. It is an order at the counter casual place that then delivers your food to your table. It was about half full when we arrived but it seemed to take a pretty long time to get our food. We did not know this pub was even there and has been, for 3 years! It is nice with lots of seating at bar and near it, 3/4 high tops. This area was mainly couples who appear to be regulars. Away from it is a pool table, another table game, golf video game. The larger area had 8 tables (2 rows of 4) facing a wall where the "Dueling Piano" were and advertised (reason we came), well...they were key boards not pianos (which we have seen in Orlando bar) was not this. Shout out to "Cat" who is the BEST bartender there! First timers, went before a concert at the Florida Theater. She made a Vodka/Lemonade that was fantastic! The location has on outdoor patio that looked like it could be fun in decent weather, an indoor bar area, and a dining area which seemed a bit dark and depressing to me. There are a few video games and a full size pool table, along with a TV or two. I ordered the Patty Melt (My Face), a cute name to justify a $17 burger that was decent when it arrived after about 25 minutes, albeit unimpressive. It was accompanied by mac and cheese which arrived at room temperature - It was better the next day when I warmed it up. Seats in the dining area are metal chairs, a bit uncomfortable for enjoying the place for too long. Overall, everything was fine, acceptable food, ordering at the counter, and the traditional tip at the register before you know what you're paying for. Would I go back? Probably not... Maybe the regular customers know what's good about this restaurant - I just didn't find it on the day of our visit. read more

Decided to grab lunch while out and about. My second time at this location - first review. The staff was wonderful (and I saw them handle a jerk of a customer with class and calmness - impressed!). Every single person I interacted with was lovely, conversational, and polite. I had the spicy chicken sandwich. The chicken felt a little on the rubbery side, but the flavor was decent. This was our 1st time at this location, as the Hubs and I are big fans of The Spliff's location downtown. Our favorite thing to get is their patty melt, and this location did not disappoint! The bbq Mac n cheese was tasty as well. Loved the clean atmosphere, and it was pretty low key for a Sunday afternoon (and playing some Bob Marley when we walked in was a plus). Looks like fun! It has a very congenial atmosphere and the staff was welcoming. Unfortunately, all the meats, except the steak, were pre-brined in seasonings which included onion. This late night spot attracts a variety of visitors with simple, but thought out menu of delicious and unique sandwiches, burgers, and other options. Sides and appetizers have more authenticity to them than the normal bar food we are forced to settle with at most late night spots. I've been to the Spliff's Gastropub downtown, so I was excited when I saw that this one opened up close by. When you walk into the restaurant, it doesn't have the same vibe as the original. I will admit I was a little bit disappointed when I didn't see any hot pockets on the menu because when I was downtown, those were my favorite things. However, the food that I did have was very good. It just wasn't quite as unique as the original locations food is. We ordered a couple drinks while we looked over the menu and finally decided on a couple of burgers. I ordered the trust fund burger, which was very rich and had lots of flavor, while my husband ordered the patty melt burger. Both burgers were delicious. However, I could not finish my whole burger because the trust fund was just too rich ;) but my husband was able to finish his burger, and then some of mine as well. For our sides, we ordered the mac & cheese and the fries. The mac & cheese was good, but it could've been great if extra cheese was melted on top right before it was delivered to the table and the fries were cut like steak fries yet thin and they were absolutely delicious. We got a new Spliff's on our side of town so we had to check it out! We came in on a Sunday afternoon and had no problem getting a seat. We decided to sit at the bar to get a better look at drinks. They have a full bar and multiple beers on tap. They also have $9 specialty cocktails which is a good price. I thought was feeling a beer and loved that they have 32oz drafts starting at $7. You're not beating that this day in age. I got a local Jax brewing which was $9 and it was a 32oz it was also quite refreshing. For my entrée I went with the Patty Melt My Face since I'm huge Patty Melt fan. I will say they don't have American Cheese which is my trashy favorite but I can live with that. I will say On the menu it does say that the patty Melt does come on a Kaiser Roll but I asked for it on toast which they said it normally does but just a heads up if you are curious. Our food came out pretty quickly and I have that they all come with 2 1/3 pound smashed patties which is how I love my burgers and they looked great and tasted even better. We both agreed these were some of the best burgers we had had in a long time. I also got the fries for my side. Now they are cut like steak fries but are much thinner which I loved since I'm not a big fan of Steak Fries. This fries were amazing for sure get this if you're a French Fry connoisseur. The service at the bar was also amazing and everyone we talked to when sitting here (out bartender) was extremely friendly. Food was great and the staff was friendly. The setup was a little weird. Menus were at the door, you sat yourself and then you walk back ip to the register to order. Once you order, you are handed a receipt with request for a tip. The food is brought out to you and that is the extent of the service because once you finish your food, you take care of the trash. The grand opening was today after a one-week soft opening. Went there for lunch one hour after they opened. Had a bit of a few snags on this first day but will give them a bit of time to get settled before I try again. A few things you should know... The printer that made their menus made a few mistakes, missing and wrong info. So ask if you have any doubts to ensure you are getting what you saw/want. I ordered one of their Burgers(two 1/3lbs patties) and asked for it to be medium rare. After the server had a conversation with the Chef, the server came back and informed me that they only make them med well to well done. As I wanted medium rare I decided to order "The Bandit"(Chicken Salad) and unsweetened tea. My friend asked for Sweet tea and the "Patty Melt My Face" without onions and without the aioli. Our server informed my friend that they didn't have Sweet tea(the first time I have ever been to a restaurant in the south that did not have it, Sounds like a sin). He also came back in a few minutes later to inform me that they were out of Chicken Salad. I am guessing it was not prepared for the day as it was not busy enough to have already been sold out. They say the third time is a charm so I ordered "The Clubber Lang" a grilled chicken breast with bacon, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, mayo, & balsamic glaze. As my final order was taken much after my friends, his Patty Melt came out first. His fries were cold and the patty melt came out on grilled bread not a toasted Kaiser roll as the menu stated, and what he wanted. Up to this point, our server seemed to be scarce and another server, named Sabree(sp?) started to assist us. She took his order back to get it fixed right away. Eventually, we both had our meals delivered. Sadly my friend spent a bit of time scraping/wiping off the garlic dill aioli he requested not to be on the burger. My first two bites of my clubber seemed to have a little more pepper on it than I would have liked. It was on my third bite that it hit. Had to excuse myself to go to the bathroom to spit it out. It was blackened chicken. That information was missing from the menu. I asked if it was one of the mistakes on the menu. That is when she informed me that all of their chicken is seasoned but the Clubber is supposed to be blackened and she said that should have been on the menu. She apologized and asked If I wanted anything else. I thanked her but said no, that she could just take it back to the kitchen. Even though I ate my fries and had a drink she voided my bill. During a conversation with one of the managers(Chris), who dropped by to check on us, I was informed that all of their burgers are "Smashed Burgers" and as they are this type, the best they can do for cooking is med well to well done. So that is understandable. Maybe alter the menu to add that info. Before leaving I provided a little feedback about our first server(who seemed lost) and thanked Sabree for providing excellent service. Yes, even though my bill was voided I provided a tip well over 20% of what the whole bill would have been. It is her positive attitude and customer service that will have me come back. read more

We haven't even left yet, and I couldn't wait to put this review up. My wife and I came to the new location on St Augustine Rd. We had never heard of this place until yesterday and decided to give it a try. It is brand new, clean, well laid out and the staff was friendly and helpful. We are watching the Florida-Georgia game as we eat. Now for the FOOD. We couldn't have been happier. We don't eat burgers often. We splurged and she ordered The Burning Man and I ordered the Duval Dirty Bird chicken sandwich. Both are beyond excellent. If you like spicy they have you covered.
