We haven't even left yet, and I couldn't wait to put this review up. My wife and I came to the new location on St Augustine Rd. We had never heard of this place until yesterday and decided to give it a try. It is brand new, clean, well laid out and the staff was friendly and helpful. We are watching the Florida-Georgia game as we eat. Now for the FOOD. We couldn't have been happier. We don't eat burgers often. We splurged and she ordered The Burning Man and I ordered the Duval Dirty Bird chicken sandwich. Both are beyond excellent. If you like spicy they have you covered. Their fries are different and great. We both are glad we came here. We will be back and highly recommend this spot. Oh yeah, they have like 100 beers and a full bar! read more

The downtown location is closer for us, but those delicious fries may be calling us back to Bayard again someday! Rico was great, service wasn't the problem. Brought some people from out of town in, figured we'd try something new. Food was incredibly greasy. Flavors were bland. As we were leaving we told each other it was a swing and a miss. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. It was the after that is the main problem though. 3 out of 4 people from my group got food poisoning. We all got separate items. I don't know if they're not cleaning properly or not storing their food properly, but eating here will lead to a trip to urgent care. Definitely a huge quality control issue. Be warned. read more

I met some friends here on a whim. The atmosphere is nice, but I do not like the seating. There were rows of long tables with chairs where you have to sit with other people, which is great if you are there for a party, but not if you want something a tad more intimate. There were smaller tables, but they were limited. They have a nice tap list and the service was great. I didn't eat, but my friends said that their food was really good. read more

Came in at 5:45 on a Sunday afternoon. 1 guest outside, 2 at the bar. Otherwise empty. My husband and I were looking at the menu while our kids were around the pool table. To be fair, they were holding the pool cues the wrong way and taking turns hitting the cue ball. However, this could not have been going on longer than a couple of minutes. The cook yells at us from the window "you gunna do anything about that?!" Bewildered, we asked what he was talking about. He went on a rant about how there were signs all over the place that said 16 and up and how they were messing up the pool table. I take full responsibility for taking my eyes off my kids for a few minutes in an empty restaurant, but his behavior was 100% uncalled for and unprofessional. The kids didn't mess up the pool table, by the way. The guy needs a hug and a therapist. Anyways, can't comment on the food because he definitely would have spit in it had we ordered. read more

Excellent food. We would give it 5 stars for the delicious chips, burger and steak sandwich we had but took a star away for ambiance. We would come again to try more of the food on the menu. There is a neat separate bar area but there is a missed opportunity with the rest of the restaurant which makes you feel like you are in a long Viking style situation with the long tables. Get some booths and cozy tables for a time where diners might linger. That would be my recommendation. I also feel like some live music like maybe a guitar player or singer would be nice. I always recommend waitress service over counter but that's me. Maybe not everyone. Overall good local place just opening. Enjoyed it will be back! read more

Came here after an afternoon out with my bestie. Walking in was a little awkward because weren't sure whether to sit or order at the counter. We were told to order at the counter, but there was a line forming behind us, so we stepped to the side to review the menu. I tested a few of the beers, I wish the menu was a little more descriptive, but with the samples I was able to find something I liked. We ordered the hummus with cucumber and pita. It was a good snack and great to have something while waiting for our main dishes. Nothing good or bad about it. For my main I ordered the Trust Fund burger and it was DELICIOUS! I was definitely full after half the burger, but couldn't leave the other half behind, so I scarfed down the whole thing. If this wasn't a 45 minute drive for me, I'd be here ordering that burger once a week. read more

Second time here with the same experience. Great food, awful bar service. Bartenders get your first, then do every other thing while you're sitting with an empty drink. This is definitely the type of place where if you need anything, you have to work to get the bar tenders attention. My boyfriend sat with an empty drink for about 10 minutes, bartender finally comes over asking for the glass. Boyfriend asked for another drink at the same time, bartender was surprised about the drink order (this was maybe his third drink) and said "yeah give me a minute". Had to wait for the next bartender about 15 minutes later to get his drink. We tried it, the food was great, but the service is absolutely terrible. read more

It's Saturday and we ordered our food at 1:01pm, but did not get it until 2:13pm. There was a large party of 16 seated already and I guess that put everything behind. Also , there was one person working the floor, she was the cashier, bartender, and food delivery person, so for would tend to sit on the 'waiting to be delivered' table when the kitchen would get it done. One of my biggest concerns however was the music, not that it wasn't good, it was just unfiltered, not the radio edit versions. As an example, Nine Inch Nails came on singing their song 'Closer'. If you're not familiar with it, he sings "I want to f*** you like an animal ", fine for adults to hear, but not if you are there with your 7 year old daughter or any children for that manner and definitely not something I would expect taking the family out for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. read more

I may not be the right person to review this place but I will give you my honest opinion. How is this a gastro pub? The name is very deceiving, 1st let me say I do not eat red meat or bacon which is 90% of the menu here. My dining partner is a total carnivore and lives for bacon. Let me describe the place first. Spliff's on Old St. Augustine has several TVs that face the bar and the counter facing the kitchen. The place is pretty non descriptive looking . There are basic tables with black uncomfortable metal chairs. I can not remember what was on the walls besides chalk boards with the funny names of some of their craft beers. The place is a little dingy & looks like it needs a good scrubbing judging from how my feet stuck to the floor as I walked to the restroom. The servers were friendly & checked on us several times while I perused the menu trying to find something to eat that didn't have meat, bacon, or 2000 cal. My dining partner, and I finally decided to share the pretzel bites Appetizer. The food here is served on metal trays with black and white checked paper. The pretzel bites came out, warm and seem to be coated with oil or butter. They were a large order, definitely enough for at least two to share. The pretzel bites come with mustard and beer cheese, however, the beer cheese had sausage in it which was a no for me. When it came time to order an entrée I really couldn't find anything that looked appealing to me or that I could eat. There was an appetizer of hummus, but I was not in the mood for that. I was full and decided not to have anything else but my dining partner ordered a double patty burger with cheese. It came with fries. His order came out pretty quickly however, but it sat up on the counter for at least 10 minutes to the point where my dining partner had to go, asked the waitress if that was his food. He said the taste was very good and he enjoyed the burger. The fries were very interesting looking as they were long and thin cut. They tasted very good however. My dining partner had 2 of their beers on tap. Overall, This is not a place that I would go back mainly because of the menu. Also, because of the look of the place. If you really enjoy burgers and beer, you might enjoy spliffs. read more

Went to Spliff's Bayard location last night and it was a really great experience. The location is setup where you will order at the counter, grab a number, and the deliver the food to you. I love the option that you can leave your tab open and there was always staff rotating throughout to add another drink to your tab. The pretzel bites were really good, I loved the coating on the pretzel bites was thicker. Food was solid. I may try another main dish next time, but would definitely recommend for overall experience! read more

Always looking to try new places - and Spliff's on St. Augustine Rd just opened so we went for dinner on a week night. There is a bar section separate from the rest of the venue, and outdoor seating on a deck. No booths, but lots of table seating in the restaurant. For a new place, there was a good amount of dinner traffic - which is a good sign. I decided to check out the cocktails and ordered an Old Fashioned. The server said they had some "technical difficulties" with the drink but figured it out. It was ok, but tasted like a usual ingredient was missing. We ordered The B.I.G. Grilled Cheese with Fries, and the Patty Melt My Face burger with Fries. These were both delivered on grilled white bread and were very good. However, you will need plenty of napkins if you order grilled sandwiches as they do not skimp on the butter and your hands will get quite greasy. The grilled cheese had cheddar, provolone, and gouda. Nice combination! The burger called for 2 patties, cheddar, swiss, grilled onions, garlic dill aioli, and was supposed to be delivered on a toasted kaiser roll. I guess they were out of kaiser rolls - but the sandwich was delicious. So they definitely have some minor issues with their start up at this location but overall we had a good experience. We'll give it some time and come back to see how they're doing after they have a chance to iron out the start-up wrinkles. read more

My wife and I are "regulars" at Spliff's. The beer choices are always plentiful, with some really good beers. The drink pours are the best around! We've tried everything on the menu, and it's always great food! The service is very personable, and each server does their best to please. It's a nice relaxed atmosphere, Laid-Back and fun! They now have brunch on certain weekends, that is excellent. The flights of mimosas are very tasty. This is our favorite hangout. They just make you feel welcome. read more

I went to Spliffs Sunday at 4 pm with a few friends. First of all I was unaware that you order your food at the counter. Did not like that especially since the prices were very high for the quality of the food. I ordered the rice bowl with steak. It came in a metal disposable tin, lots of rice with no flavor, maybe 8 pieces of burnt, tough steak the size of my thumbnail. The broccoli was one floret sliced 5 times. Thank goodness for the little cup of yum yum sauce. No one in my group was thrilled with their meal. I read all the reviews prior and thought it was a good local place. Now I wonder if the reviews were real at all. The sizes of my friend's orders were small. I was as asked how the food was when we were leaving and I told the truth. Will not be back. read more

Service here is not the problem, it's the food. My husband and I went there about 3 weeks ago and got the patty melt and he got the stringy macaroni and cheese. To say this was the greasiest hamburger I've eaten would be an understatement and his mac and cheese was somehow burnt on the top and still so cold that it had melted on the bottom. This place is infectious. I've been here during the soft opening and after the grand opening, and I always say I'm staying for one. However, with the incredible staff and AMAZING food, I recommend being prepared to spend about 2 hours here at a time. They have on the best games, and if you want one that isn't on, they accommodate by changing the channel if time allows. The variety of drinks and food makes this worth it. Personally, the DUVAL Dirty Bird deserves its own 5 star rating, as it is one of the best things I've eaten in my life. Overall, the staff has been amazing! They make amazing conversation and seem to have a great time while being here. We will be back a LOT!! read more
