Wandered over for a late lunch after the FL theater. Small gastropub downtown with an appealing menu and plenty of seating. The bartender/host/server was friendly and efficient. Our party ordered a variety of entrees that arrived to the table quickly. The Mac & cheese was prominently featured on the menu and the menu board at the entrance but it was definitely disappointing. It was cold, no flavor depth and covered in herbs. The grilled cheese was decent but the side of Greek pasta was dry corkscrew noodles with a sprinkling of tomatoes, a bit of onion, a dash of feta and one piece of black olive. Did I mention how dry it was? The burgers seemed to be the group preference. The have several craft beers, canned sodas, water and prepackaged grab and go snacks. I think the main problem was the lack of restroom facilities. I didn't know that restaurants could operate without a bathroom and I doubt that based on the food and lack of facilities that we would go back. read more

What a phenomenal find! I'm the area and was looking for some quality food to grab. Not too many options other than your typical chains. Saw this place got reviewed highly and was relatively inexpensive so took an exposition and brought friends. Boy were we happy! Ambiance is super chill. Small little pub, few high top tables and 4 regular tables. Staff is awesome. ~20 beers on tap, menu is simple but food is anything but. The grilled cheeses are awesome. The Mac and cheese is a must. This is a normal stop for me from now on. The first visit, I had The Big Spliff. This time, I consumed the Dirty Hippie which is every vegetable they have in the place conveniently packed into a wrap that's bursting with flavor for your face hole! My buddy had the Veganville and he didn't know what tofurkey was. But he wouldn't stop telling me how good it was! So I tried it. Such a fresh and crispy sandwich that I spaced out for sec and stopped chewing. Part of me felt guilty for eating it because it was that perfect. I figure that every menu choice there would have the same effect on me. If I only had a second stomach... The brews here are excellent btw. I can't forget to mention them. The Day time Bartender was very short with me and seemed to not want to be there . I decided to order a glass of wine while waiting for my food . Around 5:45 - 6 pm Another bartender came in for shift change my original bartender came by and took my glass without even asking if I was finished or if I wanted another glass . Stumbled onto this place as we were in search of dinner before a concert at the stadium. You order at the bar/counter, and they bring your food to the table. They have a large selection of gourmet Mac and cheese, burgers, bowls, and a nice selection of craft beers and wine. I went with the String Cheese Incident, which had different cheeses, including goat cheese, and no protein. My daughter ordered a grilled chicken rice bowl. I noticed the food was coming out of the kitchen piecemeal, so I didn't think much about it when my food arrived, but not my daughter's. The Mac and cheese was very tasty, plenty of cheese, and a nice, garlicky, toasted bread crumb topping. It was a large portion, and I gave some of it to my daughter to share. Which is a good thing, because her food never arrived. I went to the counter to let them know, and the girl at the register was very apologetic. I had her cancel the order and she refunded the entree, as well as giving me half off my food as well. She even gave my daughter a bag of chips, so she would have something to snack on before we went to the arena. I am not sure if she was a manager or not, but she was empowered to make things right, and she did a very good job of turning something negative into a positive experience. Looking at the reviews we were excited to try a new place. The ambiance looked questionable but we were sold with the solid reviews. However, once we sat down there were lots of red flags starting with the cooks cleaning out the Alexa speaker with a toothpick while they were awaiting orders. Then one of cooks enjoyed a freshly poured beer that was passed through his the order window. Next up was loaded chips that were poured from a bag. The burgers were nearly inedible and left us nauseated with the half we did eat. I suppose if I was inebriated I would have enjoyed the food. I actually had heard about this place a little while back while looking for options that would deliver to the Police Memorial Building nearby, and the menu looked so interesting and yummy! I happened upon it again when my friend Rebecca N and I were downtown for the tree lighting at the Landing this weekend. The line was long when we got there but pretty fast moving. There were plenty of seats, and after we ordered we settled in for some chatting over a John Boat for me and a red wine for her. The wait for a grilled cheese and a salad did seem a little longer than I would think, but when the food came out if was so good I didnt even care anymore! I ordered a goat boy sammich with the cucumber and feta salad on the side..the flavors were really good, the bread was the perfect golden brown and the salad had a nice tart flavor. I will say the tri tip steak was kinda chewy, but its not something that would stop me from eating here again. While we were eating, we watched the place fill up to PACKED! Something I noticed was that it was all sorts of people, young and old, hipster and preppies..a little of everyone..i think thats really cool to see. the other thing that stands out about Spliff's is the atmosphere..the exposed brick and art and murals is soooo dope, and i see that theres a patio im bummed we didnt check out. Service was god awful; waited 10 minutes to be given silverware after getting our food. Tables dirty. Food was okay. This has always been one of my favorite spots downtown. I heard about the lobster Mac and cheese so we went to check it out. Everyone is right it is delicious. The sandwiches are great. They have vegetarian and vegan options. The menu is not extensive but what they do they do well. They have a full bar and some great craft beers from local places. I used to love checking out the live music/DJ's (Mas Appeal is my favorite) out back but they moved recently and I'm sure what the new set up will be like. Recently moved to Springfield and found out there's not a ton of places to get takeout from (though lots of great new places are starting to open up!), so we decided to order from a place downtown. So happy we went with Spliff's after checking out their menu. Ordered the Duval Dirty Bird, The Big Spliff, and the OG Mac and Cheese. When we went to pick our order up a half hour later we found the place to be pretty packed on a Wednesday night which is a good sign. After a bit of a wait we left with our food, having paid $30. Not bad for 3 meals (yes there was only 2 of us but don't judge). Anyways, the food was great! Both sandwiches had a tasty and unique flavor. The Big Spliff was a little spicy but just the right amount of heath. The dirty bird was my favorite of the two. The Mac and cheese and the sides (cucumber and pasta salads) were all delicious. Love their use of goat cheese. Spliff's will be in our rotation from now on and I look forward to dining in. read more

So I thought I'd give it a try and boy I'm glad I did. walked in sat down at a side table and the waitress/bartender came over and gave us our menus and said just come to the counter when you're ready to order so we did. My wife got the Dirty Hippie Salad with grilled chicken with an iced tea, and I ordered the Caesar Elbow Salad and the 1904 Ham Sandwich. My wife said her salad was really good and extremely big. While my salad was also really good and huge too. Later while talking to the manager while looking at the patio they have out back I suggested they get a side salad size to go with the sandwich's. Super bummed, the establishment we are hanging at raved about their amazing mac and cheese. Plus, Emily/Samantha/Gisell/Luke and everyone else raves about this place. We've been on the road for a week & not strangers to traveling. We wanted some comfort food on this rainy, so close to the ocean day. We ordered, picked up and brought back within 5 minutes. We ordered the Gordon Bleu Dreams and it was extremely dry, Sahara desert dry. The chicken, ham, mac and cheese, burnt bread crumbs; everything was inedible. When partner in crime bought it back, they were extremely nice and asked to remake it/asked us what we wanted it. I ordered the hummus wrap dish with the cucumber tomato salad which was delicious and my friend ordered a pulled pork grilled cheese, with a side of Mac (also said it was great) but.... how long should that really take to make?! Apparently they had one cook, but I feel like if they had more staff on hand this could've been a much better experience. [This place was opening at 6pm and open until 130am on a Sunday!] I went on Yelp and read a few reviews - I saw a photo of the Lob Star Mac I was SOLD. We came in expectations still kind of low, darker scenery not much seating [found out after theres more seating in the back]. We ordered Lob Star Mac [BEST] the shrimp mac and the pot belly - everything was delicious!! So much food and the prices were so reasonable for the amount of food you get. We left with full bellies, left overs, and smiles. Rome helped us out with beer selections and even menu options he was so knowledgeable and made our experience even better.
