This place is a poor representation of what hot pot should be. The food quality is not good. The vegetable platter I received with my meat lovers combo was not washed as there was dirt on it. Service was decent since after they take your order all the food comes at once. Ambiance of the restaurant is dimly lit with a dark wood interior. Also, they had accommodations for big parties. In summary, I don't recommend this place because it is not close to authentic but more importantly the quality of the food is very low. read more

First time at Asian hot pot restaurant in Pooler. Hubby and I went for our anniversary. Food quality was great, lots of fresh veggies came with your choice of protein. They did not skimp on the veggies,which included, baby bok Choi, bean sprouts, broccoli, zucchini, baby spinach, corn and potato. The meats were great quality and plentiful. Hubby had seafood plate which came with shrimp, crab, squid, mussels and clams. All were delicious. I was more pedantic and ordered the chicken and lamb combo. Again, plentiful and good quality. The broths were varied, depending on your taste, hubby had a green chili broth which was clear and a little thin tasting. I had the house broth that was mild but flavorful. They also had an area where you could mix up your own dipping sauces for your protein or sauces to add to your broth. They had every Asian sauce you could think of, from hoisin to oyster to chilli, to a special house sauce. If you aren't familiar with these sauces and what they taste like there is a handy sheet that offers suggestions on sauces to mix, depending on what flavors you like. Oh, the broths were msg free. Our server/manager Mae was lovely and attentive. They do offer lunch specials and have added pho broth to their mix. The restaurant was very clean, and I visited the restroom which was also clean. I'm from Hong Kong and currently living in Savannah. I was delighted to hear that there's a hot pot place in Pooler. I have been to Splendid Shabu three times, once for lunch and twice for dinner. Lunch was ok, dinner was fabulous both times. They have authentic Chinese hot pot broth, even that spicy kind! Some people might not think they have enough variety of toppings for hot pot, but it's perfect for me. I did not have high expectations going in because I didn't expect it to be authentic at all and I was impressed. This is as close to real Chinese hot pot as you can get in this area. read more

Atmosphere - Typical vibe from a place like this. The dining area is a big open space. Booths on the outside along the wall. The inside portion had on big U shaped table with seating on both sides. All tables had small electric burners for the hot pots. Food Drink - Just water for this meal. Lunch - Let's keep in simple with the express lunch for an Asian soup of your making. Pick your broth, pick a noodle, and pick your protein, the order is taking away. While waiting I went to the topping bar and picked some green onions, to later find out they were in the soup already. I wanted some extra heat with the spicy broth so I also selected jalapenos. So the pho noodles were probably partially cooked beforehand and dumped into the broth upon my order. The problem they were just one giant mass until half way through the meal when they finally broke free of each other. The knife cuts on the veggies were horrible. Some pieces were very large and made for a challenge to eat. A good amount of beef was in the bowl which I liked. My meal here had to have been one of the best meals I have had in awhile. My mom, brother, & sister insisted I eat here and thankfully, that's exactly what happened. Now mind you, it had been a very long time since eating shabu shabu (closest I've had to it was about 5 years ago when a friend made sukiyaki) so I was pretty much a virgin all over again when I came here. We were instantly greeted by Jon (his parents own Splendid Shabu). He welcomed us in and told us to sit where we would like and gave us each the menu. The menu is broken down and fairly easy to understand (I included a partial pic of the that menu as well). 1. You pick your soup base: House broth, ma-la (spicy), or miso. I decided on the house broth which surprisingly went well with all the additional add-ins I included in my soup plus the flavorings (I'll get to these details later). It was smooth, subtle, and the flavor stayed even throughout the entire cooking process. 2. Select your noodle: they had udon, vermicelli, ramen, & clear noodles. I chose vermicelli. 3. Combos: I chose beef but they did have a lot of others to pick from aside from that. Lamb, chicken, even a meat lovers combo. The combos also included mushrooms (enoki, wood ears, etc), watercress, hakusai, quail egg, etc. 4. A la carte. If you want to add bok choy, tofu, extra veggies/meat, etc. Once you've chosen your hot pot selections, the pot with your soup base comes out. As it's boiling, the veggies and everything else ordered follows. And yes, you'll have an assortment of utensils in order to place your food in the pot and take it out. If you've never had shabu shabu before (but may have tried places such as The Melting Pot or at least a fondue of some sort) it's somewhat similar in concept. Just remember to not overcook your soup. Especially the meat since it's extremely thin. If you ask your server for a bowl to pull your soup out, they'll be more than happy to oblige here. Another thing to keep in mind is that by the register is a small 'cart' with varied sauces, dips, and extras in which to add to your soup while you're eating. Or if you're like me, I added Sriracha to my pot while it was cooking to give it an extra boost of heat. The owners and their son, Jon, definitely know their regulars as was presented when my family walked in. Although there was only one other couple that was dining here when we visited, their attention to their customers was definitely given and definitely well received. Well worth my hard-earned money! Me and my honey love this place. It's a great interactive experience. The staff is friendly and very helpful as it can be a little confusing as a first timer. So far I have only tried the boba, which is simply one reason to come back. However I've taken a look at the menu before and just stepping in made me want to grab a meal here. As for the boba, it was very chewy. I had a coconut boba drink and my friend had the mango. She thought it was too sweet. The coconut was creamy and not as sweet. I was having dinner with my husband and ordered a 1person combo Meat Lover and chose pork and lamb and 5 other ala carte items. Everything was good except when we highlighted that we were given the wrong protein, they insisted it was right. The pork didn't feel, taste nor look like pork, they looked, felt and tasted totally like chicken. Don't let the store front fool you. Amazing place to get noodles... great choices ...we visited during lunch and believe me they don't skip on the portions. I went here a while back (before covid) taking my sister on a dinner date & to be quiet honest it was such a pleasant experience. I loved everything about it. It was a little busy when we arrived and had to wait for a table but it wasn't the worst wait about 10 minutes maybe 15. So many options you can mix and match whatever you like, jus experiment with you food basically and it was so fun! My favorite part was mixing up sauces to add to my soup then EATING IT! Lol the food was very good we were pretty good chef's if I do say so myself, I actually liked hers a bit more than mine but both were unique and wonderful. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Pooler. You order raw meat, vegetables, broth and noodle of your choice (we normally opt for extra noodles). Then cook them at your table. It's fun and is a true foodie place full of deliciousness! There is a big selection of meats but we prefer the beef. The house broth and pho noodles are our favs. There is a sauce table in the back which you can't miss. No seriously, it's life changing! Follow instructions for the base and then I like to add a scoop of peanut sauce and a half scoop of oyster sauce for some saltiness, then some garlic clove and green onion. We started with some dumplings for an appetizer. We also ordered some cold dumplings to cook in the broth but they were not as good as the sautéed dumpling appetizer. The wine selection is poor, only a couple house wines. This is the only point they could improve upon. The Japanese beer is the drink of choice (I prefer the Asahi over the Sapporo because it is a drier beer). read more

We used to go in regularly, but don't anymore because the service was so consistently bad, like they really wish you would just leave level bad. It also seemed to be a little dirtier each time we visited, the last time a manager was smoking right outside of the front door. No one seems to care about the customer experience. At the risk of sounding epically snobby, yes we've been to Japan to try authentic Shabu Shabu JUST to make sure that all the Shabu restaurants in the US are in fact staying true to what's actually served in the motherland.**** I mean what Shabu Shabu establishment doesn't have Gomo sauce? this place doesn't, that's for sure. Now this is run by some very beautiful Filipino women, who gave excellent service, and I love my people, but this is a very Filipino influenced Shabu Shabu experience (I mean, Squid brand Patis?! ). I did not like the sauce selections (again no gomo, and they ran out of a tiny bottle of ponzu, & no grated daikon radish), and even down to the RICE, they serve Filipino jasmine rice, not Japanese rice! *face palm* I'm sorry, for this review, I do not mean any harm! If people love it, and based on the reviews here they surely do, and I wish this establishment all the freakin best!
